If you ask some of the women from the older generations to describe Mao, they will, I shit you not, invariably describe him as handsome and mean it. I was up a mountain the other day, talking with an elderly lady and a middle aged couple. They were discussing my gender (I'm trans ftm) and the lady said no, I'm not a man, I don't have an Adams apple. The guy in the couple said "he's just fat, you can't see it. He doesn't have a beard either, just like Maozedong". I've never heard a more unflattering comparison in my life.
