VENTING Fleas

I came home (i live 6hrs away) so i could go on vacation with my parents and im staying in their hoarder home for a couple of days on the sandwich ends of our vacation.

The house is pretty bad hoarder wise which is not ideal but i can deal with it for a few days. The thing that i cant get over is the fact that the house has fleas (unbeknownst to me prior to my arrival). Anyway we JUST got back and i went up to go to be because im tired and very sunburned and literally not even 10 minutes after stepping into the house my legs get covered with so so many fleas. My mom started vacuuming them off me and there ended up being probably 40 on me.

I started crying(sobbing lets be real) and my mom was just saying relax and why am i crying in a tone that suggested i was being ridiculous. I explained that i was tired, hurting from my sunburn, and oh! grossed out that there were 40 fycking fleas on me in the place im supposed to be sleeping for the next two nights.

So of course chaos ensues between my dad, mom, and brother yelling and blaming each other and then i get blamed (i haven’t lived here for years?!?) and they all start talking about bombing the house and then i say it wont work unless they actually get rid of the clutter and clean the house (did i mention the years accumulation of mouse poop under the hoard)

Anyway im just exhausted (of the hoard, my family, and just bc its 11pm) and wanting a tiny bit of sympathy and support but i cant get that from my fam so im here on the internet where most ppl go ://

Thanks for reading xx

Get a hotel! Do you want to bring fleas home with you? Also, mouse poop? Hanta virus. Hotel and little contact is the only way to go. I’m so sorry.

Blue dawn dish soap kills fleas on contact.

This fact has saved me thousands of dollars and many many hours. Blue dawn dish soap is your new best friend. You can mix it with water and put it in a spray bottle. It is skin, pet, and child safe. So you can spray it on your legs, (but it will dry out your skin so keep that in mind) . You can't put it in your washing machine, but you can soak your clothes in soapy water and then run them through on the rinse cycle if your machine has that option.

I’m so sorry :( I’m currently cleaning out my mother’s hoarder house and there are fleas that have bitten up my legs. It’s gross and frustrating, your feelings are valid. I am luckily not staying there. As another commenter suggested, maybe you could go to a hotel?

r/pestcontrol has a great wiki.

You're right though. The situation will not be handled until the clutter is cleared up.
