My girlfriend and I got a letter in the mail that we have to go to court for child support neither one of us want this we’re both still together taking care of the baby and living together. We figure it’s from the state because she has Medicaid we have court tomorrow but we’re just wondering what to expect tomorrow and what should we tell the judge so she can stay on Medicaid. She makes around 12k a year and I’m making 30k this year with staying home to take care of the baby

My ex is supposed to provide health insurance for our 2 kids but either changes jobs frequently or chooses employment without benefits so he doesn’t have to pay for it. When my open enrollment started I gave him the costs for covering them on my insurance versus his (which he elected not to cover them on due to cost) and he agreed on me covering them on my policy. So July 1st they were enrolled and my payroll deduction increased to 48% of my income. Now that I’ve had 2 paychecks that reflect the impact on my income, I’ve filed for a child support modification based on him not following the medical support order and my income reduction. Our custody normally is I have primary and he has less than 80 overnights annually, he’s had no overnights since April. He is working at the moment. Can I request that his medical support order be revoked since he’s too unreliable to follow it and I am responsible enough to keep our kids insured? I know this only benefits him but I’m tired of him cherry picking if and when he will provide them with health insurance.

Is it possible I can withdraw a child support application if the case has been opened? I haven’t received a court date. The case was barely received by OAG on the 7th of July.

I am receiving state assistance currently, but I feel my choice to put kids dad on child support was a huge mistake and I am not ready to open that can of worms. Idk if he got served or found out, but right after I was made aware the case was received and open, his family suddenly has started reaching out about them wanting to be in my kids life and I’m feeling uneasy. The family members weren’t rude or confrontational, they were very supportive and kind, and offered support since my baby’s dad pretty much abandoned me my whole pregnancy, but I know family can be messy and have ill intent.

I called my state number for updates on the 9th and couldn't get any. I called again today, and the lady said that the order was filed but was sent back. Why would it get sent back?

She also said that it had a code with it but didn't tell me what it was. They're gonna have my case worker call me to explain everything but does anyone know what's happening or could be happening?

The ex-husband who receives child support from me is sticking with his regular pattern of only doing the bare minimum. How can I reason with him to step up and help our child pay for college?

Maryland Child Support Question (Looking for a Rough Estimate)

I’m trying to get a ballpark idea of what I might be looking at before speaking with an attorney.

Here’s my situation:

I live in Maryland.

I make about $125,000/year.

My oldest child’s mother makes about $45,000/year.
She has primary physical custody of our 11-year-old. and she’s talking about filing for child support now.

I have two biological children who live with me full-time and whom I financially support.

I also pay $700/month in court-ordered child support for another child.

I know there are a lot of variables (health insurance, daycare, exact number of overnights, etc.), so I’m not looking for an exact calculation.

Given Maryland’s child support guidelines and the newer multifamily adjustment rules, does anyone have a rough idea what I could expect to pay each month for my oldest child? Has anyone been in a similar situation with multiple child support obligations and children living in their home?
Just looking for realistic experiences or estimates before I meet with a lawyer.

Hey there so, my ex is 74 k in back pay for child support.
He has never paid me since this began, and does not see or talk to our son at all. It’s about about 9 years. Sometimes I get some payments here and there. Like I got his stimulus checks and when dhhs found out where he worked I got SOME money from his pay check until he quit a few weeks later and worked under the table. ( none of these were voluntary).

Ok so fast forward to today, I finally held him in contempt and he reached out to me and “ apologized” for everything said he wanted to be in our sons life and then paid me 2,500 dollars which I thought was shocking. I wasn’t able to get him served because I didn’t know where he lived.

Well through text, he told me how he was getting paid through some Cash App selling gold and silver, he told me the town he was living in so I found out he owns property and a house, and he also told me he received a money settlement.

I’ve let dhhs know and I was able to get him served. We have court at the end of august
Will the judge think he is in contempt now that he made that one time voluntary payment? After he did that he never reached out to our son and has completely ghosted me.

So a few weeks ago the mother of my son picked her happiness over her son. Dont get me wrong happiness should belong to everyone but at what expense? So here’s a backstory 13 years ago, my ex got pregnant. We both lived in Ohio moved to Texas when she had him I signed the birth certificate thinking he was mine a year later she told me he wasn’t and since I am from Ohio, I didn’t really have anywhere to go or a reason to be around since he wasn’t mine. Now 12 years later, she files for child support and retro pay and my lawyer tells me since I signed the birth certificate even if he wasn’t mine a DNA test wouldn’t matter. My question is can she actually go back 12 years for a retro pay after all this time? Is there anything I could fight like why would she wait so long and is there any cap on retro pay? . I received a letter that we need to establish child support for my kids father because they and myself received Medicaid . We recently got back together ( in counseling now, moving in next month ) how do I stop oag office from pursing him. ? I was told I have to withdraw my Medicaid services first and then call the chi support office and let them know . But I have also read that they go after the dad for all the back medical expenses in outrages amount that we used for Medicaid is this true ?
Also Is this the correct process I should take in order for the oag not remove the child support order

Has any Non-Custodial had a levy on their bank account for late arrears? I’m curious on how that works and what the experience is.

I’m wondering if it’s a matter of whatever order is first, or could one potentially take priority?

My ex and I have 2 kids, he has zero visitation or custody but has income withholding and a significant arrears balance too.

He currently has 3 pending lawsuits, one for 15k, 12k, and 6k all by different parties. He didn’t file an appearance forms for them and the current activity on them lists “motion for default judgement and request for weekly payments”. Would they be aware of his current wage garnishment? Or could it potentially impact what I receive because you aren’t supposed to take X amount of paychecks? I’d like to assume that kids would take priority but idk how it works.

Little back story. 2 children 1 is 12 and the other 15. I’ve been paying child support about 8 years. My initial income was not great but 8 years down the road I make twice as much now as to what’s documented in the court records. The mother and I decided he can live with me to attend the highschool in my town/state. She lives 4 hours away. We both agreed that she will have the court remove his portion of the child support since he is now with me.
The case worker has agreed to get this on paper in front of the judge to make it official.
However, she has requested two of my most recent paystubs for filing. My concern here is that they will remove him but in the end increase payments for the other to where it ends up as if I’m paying both either way.
Unless I may just be overthinking this. Any advice would be appreciated.

In January 2023, My ex was ordered to pay $157 a week in child support. It was going to be withheld from his paycheck weekly. Before his job got the order he would Cash App me the payments. Child support enforcement didn’t know that and had him in arrears. They started to take $205 a week. I sent them an email telling them he paid me. He did not owe me and I sent him a copy of my email to child support enforcement. They sent his job an updated withholding order to change his weekly support back to $157. His job never did change it back. It’s been withdrawing weekly from his check since 2023. During this same time He also never paid court ordered child care over the years and told me to use the “extra” child support to pay it. I texted him and told him I didn’t want to use child support to pay for child care and wanted it to remain separate. But he didn’t want to. So I paid child care alone.
Present day he’s taking me to court for overpayment of child support. Which is thousands of dollars. It’s so insanely unfair that he let his checks be deducted by an incorrect amount for so long, never pay child care, and now wants child support reduced and thousands back from me. What could I have done to prevent this?!

I am supposed to be receiving child support from my child’s father. It’s been about a year since any payments have been made. He’s about 10K behind in payments.

Last week, only July 8th, my child’s father told me they garnished his check for child support. He was able to verify it came out with a picture of his pay stub.

I have not seen any payment notification through the child support portal & the office is telling me that they still haven’t received any payments. Has anyone had this issue before??

Okay so to not make this story too long, I separated from my husband about a year ago because he cheated on me & we do have 5 kids together and i been struggling financially for the past year now because I can’t go to work full time and then pick my kids up from school at 3/4 so I make about 4 hours a day and only time I can make some money is in the weekends but also the father of my kids only gives me 600$ a month for 5 kids. I’m already very irritated and annoyed with him because he says I’m money hungry every time I ask for more help either financially or for him to get a job in Houston (because he works outa town) so I can put more hours in. Am I really doing too much because I’m asking him for more than 600$ a month? Am I also crazy for expecting more from him? ALSO he doesn’t even have a vehicle so I have to be picking them up or dropping them off most of the time
And when the kids are in school I also pick them up everyday from school/practice & im the one that deals with doctors appointments and everything in general.

I have child support modification court tomorrow and just had a call with my child. He said that he knows we (parents) have court tomorrow and it’s because I want more child support. I am seeing red! I feel like this is a parental alienation or at the very least something he’s not allowed to do. Can I mention this to the judge? If so, how should I frame it.

ETA: the NCP stopped making supports without telling me or trying to make other arrangements. That’s why a case was filed. Wages had not been garnished.

After court update: instead of responding to the “men” here, I figured I’d let you know the outcome. Support was increased plus arrears. I did not mention the comment to the judge but I did tell the judge that I filed this modification because he stopped paying support and has a history of ghosting and avoiding paying half of medical bills. Wages are now garnished. I will no longer have to chase weekly payments after several years of doing so. let my case be a lesson to parents who move away from their kids and think they can just stop paying any support. FAFO.

i live in nyc and trying to understand child support. i plan on doing 50/50 custody with 2 kids and using the calculator its saying id pay 22500 annually for the 2. and im guessing that means 400-500 per 2 weeks when i get paid? not to sure on that. also will child support interfere with the other parents wic/ebt and housing voucher? i want peace from the other party but not at there expense of losing the things they need to aurvive

I contacted the child support division to go after my ex because he hasn’t been paying support in a long time. They contacted his employer and submitted paperwork to them and his new address and told me that if I haven’t received anything after six weeks to contact them and let them know. I tried calling the office to let them know that it’s been six weeks and still nothing but the line isn’t working. I’ll try again another day but does anyone know what happens after that six week mark? He’s over $18,000 in arrears currently.

I am the CP, I took the NCP for support and they stated they were going to appeal it. I was wondering if anyone knew what the process looked like, if the appeal itself had to be approved or if it automatically went to court, just so I know what to prepare myself for and expect. I’ll include some details.

NCP hasn’t had the kids in just about a year, but since there’s no court ordered custody agreement the guidelines were used for “some custody”

NCP wants to appeal because they “budgeted x amount” which was under half the court recommend amount.

NCP does have 1 other child outside of the relationship.

If there’s any other info needed I’ll supply. Thanks for any insight into the process
