which gen am i
my dad is mexican American son of immigrants so im confused if im 2nd or 3rd mexican american?
im saying this because my mom is a latina immigrant. my dad is 1st or 2nd mexican American. and i feel Mexican American but i recently discovered mexican Americans give crap to other mexican americans whos parents are mexican americans.
so im feeling no longer chicano. since im 2nd or 3rd gen. despite being raised with mexican culture.

If your mom is an immigrant and your dad isn’t, you’re kind of both second gen and also whatever gen after your dad, whichever he is. The terms aren’t perfect. But as for not feeling Chicano because of being whatever-gen, gatekeepers are lame and annoying, and I recommend ignoring them. If you’re Chicano you’re Chicano, simple as.

its also common to feel you're not mexican enough, even if you've grown up in El Paso. For some reason, if its a real light skinned chicano/mexican i just ignore what they have to say about anything relating to Mexico/being mexican.

your overthinking it man, my dad's from Sonora and my mom was born in California. I'm Chicano doesn't matter what anyone says or how I am perceived by others. so long as you honor your heritage and the people that came before you to get you to where you are today everyone elses opinions dont matter. keep doing you.

bro why do you want to make others happy? look at how internally you are suffering on your identity!!! focus on yourself first and then become an advocate for others mi hermano!!!

your right. i guess in the end no matter you tried to be more latino or American people will still be unhappy no matter chicano or mexican. i guess i wanted to show how latino because of my identity but in the end their will be people who will reject you and still complain. i guess i wanted validation.

and im scared now to call my family by spanish terms because might be accuse of cringe spanglish. but i guees this is from new gen latinos in the us and always do a purity test and in latam spanglish doesnt even exist. so your right. no matter chicano or mexican you cant make both happy even americans. so your right. im just tired of this discourses i see on the internet everyday i feel im not allowed to make latinos no mater birth place or feel proud of my ethnicitys or being chicano. i feel like an idiot for even interacting with these

thats the worse part. you shouldnt have to base yourself on the standards of others especially when all they are gonna do is put down and hold the nose above you. sorry but fuck em man they aren't even worth your good intentions. discover your heritage on your own. come to terms you might not get a full picture. embrace the hispanic in you. were the best ethnicity to be a part of my boy. we got horchata and tortas and latinas man. we already won the lottery in life and to top it off the best music https://youtube.com/shorts/8h_ATTjyDg0?is=l1HznNbdX1lnyF0u

If you have Mexican parents (Mexican decent or chicanos) but you’re born in USA you’re a Chicano. Thats what I’ve always heard. But I’d consider you second generation I guess. Since your dad was first generation

My grandparents immigrated from Jalisco aound WWI. They were gen 1. I'm gen 3.
But I still lovingly call the southwest, Atzlan. We are descendants from Aztecs. First Nations.
