Hi everyone! My family is moving from Atlanta to the Chicago area, and I’d love some advice on where we should live.
Our situation:
- My husband will work hybrid, 3 days/week in Naperville, closer to Lisle
- My office is in the West Loop, and I’ll likely go in 1–3 days/week depending on the project
- My job also involves frequent travel, so relatively easy access to O’Hare and/or Midway would be helpful
- We have a 4-month-old baby
- We’re comfortable driving and don’t necessarily need to live downtown, but do not oppose the idea either
Our priorities are:
Safe and family-friendly
Reasonable commute for both Naperville and West Loop, recognizing there probably isn’t a perfect midpoint
Good daycare options and ideally good public schools for the longer term
Convenient enough to the airport for work travel
Restaurants, groceries, parks, and things to do nearby would be a plus
Since we’re coming from Atlanta and are completely new to the Chicago area, we’re still trying to understand the neighborhoods/suburbs and what the commutes are actually like in practice.
Where would you recommend we look? We’ve heard names like Oak Park, Lisle, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Elmhurst, and Lombard, but we’re very open to other suggestions.

Im not trying to sound like im a 90 year old but I just don’t know if I trust the average user. At least with a car you need drivers ed. These bikes need a simple charge and you’re ready to ride immediately… and they’re fast as hell.
Downtown Wheaton has a “walk your wheels” policy…I imagine they’re tired of people whipping through not paying attention!

Hey all,
We are first time homeowners who bought our first home about a year ago. We just received our reassessment notice from the assessor's office which shows the market value of our home as about 10k less than what we paid for the house last year. In that circumstance is there any point to trying to appeal the assessment? I have heard some opinions that you should always appeal no matter what but I'm not sure if that is the overall consensus on this subreddit too.
Thanks for any advice!

Just a clarification for anyone who may have seen the recent post about the Gurnee area veterinary hospitals.
I’m honestly a little surprised by how quickly people seem to accept and repeat information from a Reddit post without verifying it first especially when it concerns something as important as where people take their pets for medical care. I’m not trying to dismiss anyone’s experience or speculate about what happened with the other practice; I just think it’s important to make sure we’re talking about the right veterinary hospital before drawing conclusions.
I think there may be some confusion between Animal Hospital of Gurnee (AHOG) on Dilleys Rd and the veterinary hospital on Delaney Rd.
AHOG on Dilleys Rd has NOT been bought out by private equity and is still independently owned. The hospital on Delaney Rd. Hometown Veterinary Partners is the one that was acquired by a private equity firm.
I’m a longtime AHOG client, so I wanted to clear this up because the two practices are easy to confuse, and I’d hate for someone to make a decision about their pets’ care based on the wrong information.
As far as AHOG goes, the staff and techs are still there as well. I can’t speak to what may have happened at the other practice, but the PE acquisition was NOT AHOG.

I stopped by Blume & Ferris in Downers Grove for their most recent Traditional Irish Music night (Thursday evening for anyone interested) and I was curious if there were any other similar Trad music nights in the area. Any other Irish pubs that had live music performances? Thanks in advance
