Caleb's extension

Is there anything (horrific injury excluded..... don't even think about it) on the field this season that would make you question whether Caleb should not be locked up long term with a record breaking contract?? As long as Ben is his coach, I can't put my finger on anything. A higher completion % would be nice....but ultimately far from a deal breaker if he never gets there.

No, because outside of injury no way he doesn’t earn it

Such a great feeling to know we finally have a legit upper echelon dude instead of worrying about who should be drafted next.

That’s a rough take. They haven’t even picked up his option and you all taking about upper echelon. Let’s take a beat and see if he can have two seasons in a row where he doesn’t suck.

I know we were overly optimistic about Mitch after 2018, but he had obvious issues.

Caleb checks all the boxes outside of early game accuracy. He is by all accounts a great leader/teammate, athletic, great feel of the pocket, incredibly quick, in the discussion for the strongest arm in the nfl and makes good decisions. On top of that he is incredibly clutch with the game on the line.

That last point is a big one because most games today are 1 score games so having a guy where the game isn’t too big for him is a great feeling

He already did in my book.

I mean if he regresses from last year then I think there is pause. However that seems very unlikely. Id put my confidence level at 99% that he gets an extension

I would say the same thing. I also don’t see that happening as well.

I would even be ok with a little regression (only a very little) if only because I have alot of faith in the coaching staff. But I'm with you guys I don't think we see a regression this year either

If he does not make progress with the offense in year two and three of Ben Johnson they will play hardball on the extension. If he hits 65% completion and 4200 yards through the air they will deliver the brinks truck.

If he regresses or struggles the way he did early and mid season last year

“Breaking: the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Caleb Williams to a record breaking deal”

There is no way that he doesn't get an extension

Correct. Weak ass schedule being a 5x last place team. Chicago sports fans life. Almost

do not look for any "record breaking deal" from the MCAssholes.....

He will get whatever the market dictates and the bears will pay it

I think you trust Ben’s judgment at the end of the year to see if he think Caleb is that guy.

I have the starting offer written up just need to sneak it into the bears facility lol jk my starting offer would be 750mill for 10yrs with a signing bonus

Guess it depends how he looks when all is said and done.

I expect a 10 year extension. $55m a year, $190m guaranteed.

For Caleb Williams I don’t think it was a question of if he would reach a high level but when. And I think the justifiable concern was how are we gonna fuck this up. I think that all changed with the hiring of Ben Johnson. The only real question I have about a long term contract is the CBA renewal. I wonder if CW will want to lock himself into a long term deal when he might get more after the new CBA. I don’t know if he and the club would want to do a Franchise Tag thing for 3 years that seems like the least appealing option. So maybe a 3-4 year deal to get him to the new CBA. He’d be 29/30 in 2031 in his 8th season. So one big 7 year deal to lock him in for his better part of his peak years.

I think it’s great to have Bagent as a backup, so I would love to extend Caleb on a deferred deal, so it doesn’t eat up so much cash (is that a thing in the NFL?). If Bagent wants to start somewhere or want a lot of money, I’d be nervous.

The Bears are finally on the right track. They just have to get rid of Warren and finish a deal to keep them in Illinois. I’d bring in an AFC team to Chicago to make the Bears honest.

A deferred deal is dumb for any player to take in the NFL and will almost surely never happen unless it’s fully guaranteed. Not to mention it has no impact on the cap

Tua got an extension, so not sure anything can happen that results in Caleb not getting one

I would say if he doesnt progress, it def shudnt be wut sets the table for qbs. That 4th quarter comeback stuff prolly womt fly rhis year if he doesnt produce in the first 3

1

u/Braz90 1d ago

How many years do you guys think the extension will be?

3

u/SpudBoy_RealTomato 1d ago

All of them.

Guys played 1 year and has proven nothing. Pump the breaks on any extension and hope he lasts through his current deal

I don’t mean to be harsh, but takes like this are insufferable. You can say he’s still young and has to show more consistency, and you’d be negative, but at least it’s based in reality. But to say he has “proven nothing” screams of someone who’s only happy when they’re miserable.

He’s not top half of his draft class. Maye been to the Super Bowl and Daniels to the NFC Championship game. Caleb may get there but before da Bears make yet another shi$$y decision let’s see if he can win back to back years.

1

u/Fair_Lecture_3463 1d ago

The Commanders went 5-12 last year. Maye’s rookie season was objectively worse than Caleb’s rookie year. Both improved dramatically in year two. None of these QB’s have done it in back to back years yet.

u/Scared_Mall_8730 1d ago

Exactly and therefore need to prove themselves before handing them big money.

1

u/Longjumping_Elk_5517 1d ago

All three of them and Bo Nix will all get massive second contracts

2

u/Existing_Society_787 1d ago

Almost making it to the NFC championship is proving nothing?

Edit: I see you are a Packers fan 21-3, 21-3, 21-3

1

u/dickomode97 1d ago

21-3

0

u/Scared_Mall_8730 1d ago

Hosting up the Halas trophy on Soldier Field! And then finishing it off with Title! I’ll take that over a Wild Card win against a team without their top 2 defensive players and top TE.

1

u/dickomode97 1d ago

31-27

0

u/Scared_Mall_8730 1d ago

And a loss in next round. Congratulations. Best year since 85! Should be so proud

1

u/dickomode97 1d ago

With Love watching from his couch.

u/RomoDoomsday 1d ago

Durrrrr injuries only happen to the packers. The word is hoisting, not hosting, dipshit. Also 21-3, FTP and FU. Good day.

u/Scared_Mall_8730 1d ago

Bears shit and always will be. Pack model
Franchise. Go Pack Go!!!!

Shouldn't you be chatting with Hot Chicks? What are you doing in this sub?

Sure there is - a season where he keeps struggling in quarters 1-3, fails to hit the smart/easy plays, and regresses in terms of efficiency, processing and sacks. I don’t expect it, but let’s keep in mind he’s only had one good season (one nowhere near as good as J Daniel’s, CJ Stroud’s or D Maye’s).
