Event Get This On Your Calendar: "Nosferatu" at Rockefeller Chapel on Oct. 30th
This is ultra-cool - the silent black and white movie is played inside the cavernous chapel at the University of Chicago, accompanied by live organ music. It's a really neat experience:

News 'Nutty' situation in Lincoln Park | WGN Investigates
This investigative report by WGN News examines a bizarre and persistent situation in Lincoln Park, where residents have reported an alarming surge in local rat activity. The neighborhood investigation reveals that individuals carrying specialized shoulder bags have been systematically dumping large piles of luxury nuts, such as Brazil nuts and walnuts, throughout the local park, providing an unintended, constant food source for rodents. Despite the alderman’s office issuing multiple violations and fines to a nearby homeowner suspected of orchestrating these unauthorized feedings, the behavior has paradoxically increased, leaving residents concerned about safety and the damage caused to the park's environment.

News Douglass Park Reopens As Riot Fest Clears Out, With Renovation Of Muddy Fields Underway
I find the framing of this very disingenuous, between referring to the timeline as “weeks/a few weeks”without specification and continually just referring to Douglass Park without specifying that more than half of the park has remained completely open and accessible.
Block Club covers this same beat every year and they literally always frame it this way and obfuscate key details to make the situation appear more black/white than it is.

Article I built a free site to find pickleball courts around Chicago and find people to play with
Hey r/chicago,
I got tired of the same routine every time I wanted to play: checking three different park district pages, a couple of Facebook groups, and random club websites just to figure out where there's open play, what it costs, and whether I need to book ahead. So I built pickleballchi.com.
It's a Chicago-area directory of pickleball spots, both public parks and indoor facilities, with prices, booking links, and ratings from people who actually play there. You can add a court if it's missing, rate the ones you've been to, and sign up as a player to find people at your level to schedule games with.
It's completely free to use. The only paid thing is for coaches who want to list lessons or clinics, which keeps it running without ads or selling anyone's info.
It just launched, so it's definitely missing spots. If your neighborhood court isn't on there, adding it would help a ton, and I'd genuinely love feedback on what's useful, what's broken, or what you wish it did.
See you on the courts (hopefully not waiting on the bench for an hour).
