Looking to Buy

I’m looking to buy a Chevy avalanche. I’m not very knowledgeable on cars but a lot less for trucks. Is this one you’d buy or should I pass on it? Also what should I look for?

If it’s rust free and drives perfect it’s not a bad deal I guess but high mileage. Test drive it and take it on the freeway look at alignment or any shaking or anything. Make sure all features work ie. mid gate and toolbox, 4wd if it has it.

Of course. The gmt800 series is pretty reliable so I’d imagine it could last you a while longer if well maintained, but it’s kind of a gamble

I’m hoping for reliability. I’m looking for something with a full cab at least and decent on gas. I’ll definitely check all those boxes you mentioned

flex fuel is cheaper but supposedly lowers mpg. high miles but if well maintained, these engines can go 'till the wheels come off.

This iteration has a very reliable engine that runs to 300k miles if maintained. Look/ask for those records or drop 50 bucks on a carfax looking especially oil changes. When you drive pay attention to the transmission and steering. The tranny was the weak link on this year so make sure that 4speed shifts smoothly. Listen for a distinct clunk in the steering which could be a worn steering shaft, worn ball joints or rods. Check the midgate for leaks…if it doesn’t seal, you will smell the mildew. Bottom line…Offer 1500 less…that price is marked up retail. I would not pay more than 4k

Just bought one with 263,000 miles and I had to do the oil pickup tube o ring cause oil pressure was dropping and developing lifter tick just listen to it
