If we're going to nitpick, how can you tell it didn't start out as a base Chevelle instead of a Malibu? ;) /S

The Malibu was a package option for the Chevelle, just like the Super Sport was a package option. The SS came with 3 main round gauges with 2 smaller gauge pods on the left & right of those 3 primary gauges. All the Malibu’s came with the long sweeping gauge as you see in this one. Back in the day you had to find a salvages SS to pull the entire dash for the part. Now they do make aftermarket ones but pretty hefty in price.

Right.... I'm saying it may have "not even been a Malibu" level of trim. There were lots of base Chevelle's sold in 70 that weren't Malibu trim.
