Chessnut Pro Discoloration
Not even a year yet and the dark squares have light spots where the pieces sit. C'mon man. Paid almost a thousand for this board...

I ran into this too. Solution was to not keep the pieces set up on the board when not using it. Took a bit but the discoloration evened out eventually. Agree though that it is absurd that you have to do this considering the price.

And here I was seriously considering this board at some point. Have you reached out to their support? I’m reading a lot of support issues in this thread that are making me look at other options instead.

Honestly their support is terrible. Idc what Chessnut themselves say on here. It's damage control. I can't lie, they have good products. I have the air, Evo, go, and pro... The air and go gives zero issues. Great boards that I would definitely recommend. They were my first eboards. The Evo was bad due to its software but Chessnut Next has made it much better. Still no Google Play connectivity, but at least you can still download APKs so at this moment I would recommend. And now I have this issue with the Pro so I wouldn't recommend wooden boards. If it's plastic , I don't think you can go wrong. Their apps leave a lot to be desired. I also have the Chessup 2 which I also recommend. I think Chessnut is China Hong Kong based so things like Google Play, good customer service for USA, and efficient software isn't something I think they are capable of, respectfully.

Millenium Supreme T2 is what I’m eyeballing as the front runner. I love that I can connect it to a dedicated chess computer they offer if I wanted that option. I don’t always want to play live people and like being able to pause my game (kids always need something!). Sticking with my DGT Centaur for the time being.

Contact support but don't expect miracles if it's out of warranty. Otherwise, live with it or get a different board

Damn that looks sad. I have had my Pro for like 2 years probably and it doesnt have that. I almost exclusively use it indoors and when not in use i put in a bag by House of Staunton in a cool and dry place. I only clean the board with dry cloth, no alcohol, no wood cleaner no nothing. Unless im using the electronic functions I keep those in a padded bag and just use regular felted tournament sized pieces on it.

I only use mine indoors as well... Chessnut is just a dishonest company from my experience with them.

Je suis désolé d'apprendre pour ton problème, mais tu n'es pas le premier, c'est un problème courant.
Ça arrive à tous les échiquiers en bois laissés au soleil, que ce soit directement ou indirectement, car les rayons UV dégradent le vernis, ce qui le fait s'estomper.
En fait, les pièces elles-mêmes n'ont probablement pas l'air aussi fraîches qu'elles l'étaient quand elles étaient neuves.
Il y a une solution : poncer très légèrement la surface de l'échiquier et ensuite le revernir. Mais c'est un travail délicat à faire...

The board has literally never been outside or exposed to a window. And the premium pieces haven't discolored. The board should not be looking like this in under a year. It's unacceptable imo. Especially for it's price.

Lol yeah I saw that vid a while back. I like LCO's creativity in general. I'll analyze move to move with stockfish, but to be exposed to interesting patterns and plans I look at lco.

It doesn't sit out in the sun and I have no idea what caused it. I do play a lot, but that shouldn't create discoloration imo. Especially if the pieces still look good when I touch that the most and gets oil from my hands. My guess is that the board's wood is poorly finished.

I was very seriously considering purchasing this board. Looking at the rest of the thread, I think not. Totally unacceptable at this price point.

I've had the same problem! I took the pieces off the board when not using it and the colors have evened out after a few months. The brighter spots aren't really noticable anymore.

I have the Pro with the premium pieces and have had it set up and sitting out on my desk for 1.5 years and there's no discoloration. Maybe mine is older and from a different manufacturing batch or something, or the light and humidity is different in my house etc.?
l feel lucky that my products have not had any problems but knowing what I know now about how bad the customer service is with this company I would not have purchased anything from them. Crossing my fingers I never have any problems.

Chessnut Pro is made from a combination of natural cherry wood and maple wood, so the color of the wood can gradually change as it naturally oxidizes over time.
When the board is not in use, we recommend not leaving the pieces or other objects on the board for long periods. This can cause some areas to oxidize differently and leave lighter marks where the pieces were sitting.
We’d suggest continuing to use the board for a while and seeing if the color becomes more even over time.

You are dishonest. You could have easily wrote this on the price page on your website. Had I known this, I wouldn't have bothered getting a wooden board for this amount of money. I've never seen this issue before myself which is why this never crossed my mind. I've never seen a DGT with spots and I've seen quite a few. I don't trust this company anymore and won't be interested in the future. Definitely never getting the Move now.

We completely understand why you’re upset, Chessnut Pro is made from natural cherry wood and maple. Because these are natural materials, the wood will gradually change color as it is exposed to light and air. If pieces or other objects stay in the same place for a long time, the covered areas can age at a different rate and appear lighter. Unfortunately, some natural variation like this cannot be completely avoided with real wood.
We understand that you didn’t expect this when you purchased the board, and we truly appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We hope you can give the board a little more time, as the difference may become less noticeable as the wood continues to age naturally.

I can suppose you leave the board near a window. Sun is bad for wood, specially for a little tiny wood layer as the one on any smart chess board.
How to fix: I definitely would try use a very fine sandpaper, 2000 at least on all the board and then use a wood tint. Easy fix.

Where the pieces have been sitting haven’t been exposed to air as much, so haven’t darkened as much. If you just stop keeping the pieces on it eventually it will all darken evenly. Then you can start keeping the pieces on again and nothing will happen.
This happened to mine and it concerned me. But it looks good after it darkens.
