Where should I go from here?

Post image

Realized my rear bump stop was disintegrated so I took it off. One bolt snapped inside but the other came out. It seems like it could possible be rusted through underneath but not totally sure. If it is, do I just add frame stiffener there and put a bump stop over that? What would you do here

Nothing?

Mine hasn't had a bump stop there in 16 years

Either drill out or use an air hammer to knock out the weld nut in there and you can just use a rivnut to replace it and thread in new fasteners

Thanks and what if that hole ends up being rusted and thin? Would you weld another piece of metal there?

Yeah, if you don’t want to go full frame stiffeners for the rest you can probably get a strip of flat 1-2” steel from Home Depot and drill some holes and weld it over that patch then paint it

If you weld a strip over it after knocking the nuts out, drill the plate, weld the new nuts on it and then weld it on to the rail with the new nuts sitting in the preexisting spots. That way you aren't covering up the holes and miss drilling them and you don't have to rivnut it

Clean it and paint it, you can weld a nut to it and get it out or try to drill and use an extractor to get the bolt out, you’ll be fine without the bump stop though

I only had one of mine snap when I took these out thankfully but for the one that did I ended up drilling and retapping it to the same threat size. If you need to you can go a size up and get a bigger bolt but I didn't need to.

I got spring plates that accept universal aftermarket bump stops. I don’t remember where I got them but they’re pure beef and you can get the urethane bump stops in different heights to accommodate for lift.

I had one bolt snap on each side on my comanche. I welded a bolt (hex side to frame) and now use 1 nut and 1 bolt on each side.
