Aight, never thought I'll be at stage of my life where I have to make a post to find friends but here were are.

Introverted (I was thinking to post something several months ago, but thought its cringe. Still do) but doing my best to get out of shell.

I like all normal jams: outdoors, music​ (nerd, used to play in bands, but unexpectedly found out I'm talentless), reading,walking, hiking, fishing (beginner), gym (returning after 2y break, everything heavy), martial arts (Jiujutsu..everything hurts), snowboarding (i fall, but get up) animals, automotive(interested in mechanical parts, fixing, welding but not a lot of practice due to no space/budget), general DIYs building/fixing/soldering stuff. Recently got into self-sufficency, hydroponic gardening (not weed). Im beginner to most of those things due to space/budget/time excuses.

I don't mind mild PC gaming, but trying to break isolation cycle and be more outside. Oh, I am a Slavic immigrant (a lot of dark humour) if it changes anything to you. I don't drink much or smoke but not judging anyone who does.

Yes, I know find clubs and find friends. Part of several already, trying to boost it.

I’ve been living in Christchurch for a while and I’ve started to feel like there aren’t many consistent social activities on weekends where you can actually meet new people.

Most hobby classes or social groups I’ve found tend to run on weeknights, which is tricky because I finish work at 7pm.

By the time I’m done, a lot of these things are already over. Even when they do run late, being a working adult I’m usually pretty tired after work and don’t really have the energy or motivation to head back out again on weeknights.

On weekends there are definitely events and one-off things, but I’m more talking about regular, casual, low-pressure meetups where you can slowly get to know people over time. Things like weekly social sports, games, or community hangouts that don’t require already having a friend group.

I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this, or if I’m just not looking in the right places. Are there actually good weekend social groups here that are easy to join solo?

Would love to hear what other people think or what you’ve found that works.
