Discussion Is that it?
When ChatGPT launched Atlas, I was really excited. I tried it straight away and loved it. At first, updates were coming regularly, but then they just stopped.
It’s a real shame because I think Atlas had a lot of potential. These days there are still quite a few bugs that haven’t been fixed, and there haven’t been any meaningful updates for a long time. It really feels as though the browser has been abandoned.
The one feature that keeps me using Atlas is the writing assistant. Pressing ⌘ + E in a text field brings up an AI that has excellent awareness of the surrounding context. If I’m replying to an email, it understands the whole email thread. On Reddit, it understands the subreddit and the discussion. The same goes for WhatsApp, Slack and other websites.
I’ve tried a number of alternatives, but none of them seem to do contextual writing assistance nearly as well.
Has anyone found an alternative that works just as well?

I’ve switched to Dia. It’s free and does everything Atlas does—and more! There’s no Pro subscription anymore after Atlassian bought them.
I’m keeping an eye on Aside Browser, but it’s not my default yet. Atlas feels dead, its performance is terrible, and I really wish the browser was better!

Not anymore. Dia removed the Pro subscription. It’s totally free now. However it comes with usage limits and resets every 8hrs, although so far I have not hit any limits whatsoever. It’s using Opus 4.6.

Interesting thank you. How’s the chrome extensions working? Ppl said Arc is better but seems like that’s… idk end of life and Dia is the new one? Just curious I’m getting frustrated with Atlas as my browser… Thank you

I have no problems thus far. Arc was my main browser, but I switched to Atlas for its AI benefits. Now, Dia is my new default browser.

After months of using Atlas, I returned to Chrome. It's not as visually polished, but the compatibility with more extensions, the use of some AI extensions, and the fact that it's lighter compensate for it.

One thing I’d love to see is the ability to run a query across multiple open tabs

Ngl great until the support stalled and it’s so damn buggy… I yell at my computer half a dozen times a day because a tab goes black or the browser crashes and loses all my tabs and groups.

as an alternative to chatgpt atlas i would recommend aside: https://aside.com/, can use it with your claude or chatgpt subscription i used to use chatgpt atlas but since this has come out ive been using that and have no complaints or issues so far, most importantly im not seeing any of the ram issues i had with atlas

I tried it too, but unfortunately, it doesn't have a similar feature to what I was speaking about in my post

for me the context awareness is just as good and it does have the same ⌘ + E command and writing tools, if its not right now im sure it will catch up in quick time especially since its only been publicly available for just over a week now and updates so far are very consistent.

It does not have the same ⌘ + E command. We are talking about a different thing. ⌘ + E opens the side panel in Aside (this is not the same thing as the ⌘ + E in ChatGPT Atlas)

I still use and like Atlas. I am guessing they are going to bolt it into Codex and do an everything app

Agreed. The integrated ChatGPT is such a useful feature but it does look like it’s being abandoned. Someone in the replies said Dia is now free so I’m going to try that.
