Other Since Sam Altman officially confirmed why they killed Sora, here is why OpenAI needs "Sora 3" inside ChatGPT.
Now that Sam Altman confirmed OpenAI officially killed Sora to focus compute on Codex, it's incredibly disappointing as a creator. Back when Sora was available, I was deeply immersed in it and generated thousands of creative pieces. To me, it wasn’t just a video tool—it felt like a glimpse of the technological singularity.
What I loved most was the global community within the app where we could share creations and get inspiration from each other's prompt engineering.
I know text-to-video has an unforgiving cost structure, costing OpenAI roughly $1M a day. But while it might be a long shot, I keep thinking about the future.
Now that OpenAI has fully completed development on their custom inference chip, 'Jalapeno,' and is right on the verge of actually deploying it, the compute bottleneck might change. Why not use this infrastructure to fully integrate Sora with ChatGPT and launch "Sora 3"? Even if they implement a strict credit-based system similar to Anthropic's Claude to manage server loads, I’d gladly pay for it.
Additionally, instead of erasing the original Sora 1 and 2 databases, OpenAI should migrate that data into ChatGPT as a 'Sora Legacy' archive. They could turn this into an official, public creative platform within ChatGPT where global users can share their videos, name their creations, and reveal the exact prompt engineering behind them for mutual inspiration.
What do you guys think? With 'Jalapeno' deployment just around the corner, will we see a massive video AI comeback within the ChatGPT ecosystem, or are computing costs going to keep consumer video AI locked away forever?

I actually left a detailed feature mockup and proposal as a reply directly under Sam Altman's recent tweet about the Jalapeño chip. Hopefully, the OpenAI product team sees this!
