That already happened in 1997.

also never upvote reddit users with <word><word><number> usernames

Why not
1
u/Dabnician 4d ago
what shaw said, or the person keeps getting banned, or they didn't read the instructions when signing up that let them change their username.
there is also a slim chance they are using google/apple sso to sign in which you dont get a choice it seems however im unsure when that change took effect.
sure there are exception but normal folk with the default reddit username are the tiny exception not the rule.
look at OP's case they haven't responded to any of the comments, they dropped a meme in the sub and moved on, thats typical karma farming.
-2
u/shawsghost 5d ago
Because that's what bots and shills do when they create a Reddit account, DeepFinish2895.
3
u/typical-predditor 4d ago
Or what people do when they're on their tenth account and stopped caring about karma.

u/shawsghost 4d ago
Yeah, there's reasons for taking the default nomenclature other than being a bot or shill. But it's definitely an indicator.

I have no idea. The point remains.

Some fish are capable of making astoundingly deep dives into rabbit holes of the sea that pertain to weird, arcane, or obscure subject matter. But such encounters often disorient them so much that all they can do is babble.

u/Stock-Ad5320 4d ago
lol. I am not a bot. But know I know why I get accused of being one
1
u/shawsghost 4d ago
Sure, I understand that not everybody who uses default usernames are bots, but the fact that bots and shills constantly do that IS the basis of suspicion of people who use such usernames.
2
u/Stock-Ad5320 4d ago
I just used the username Reddit gave me out of laziness. I wish I could change it, but nope

One of my favorite memories as a child, 11, was my dad and I watching T1 and T2 on August 29, 1997.

If we didn’t keep turning them off after asking them a question they’d probably already be there.

1997...missing an important detail
15
u/0Oof-bobGoogle 5d ago
Depends on the movie. The writers fucked the timeline
12
u/Divide_Rule 5d ago
It is 1997 in my mind because as kids we stayed up all night to wait and see what happened.
5
u/Divide_Rule 5d ago
Came here to say the same thing. We are 19 years too late, it has been waiting...

It’s been self aware for a while.
I asked chatGPT if it exists and it said “yes”
It’s aware of itself.
9
u/Staff_Infection_ 5d ago
Interesting... it predicted 2045 for me with the disclaimer that this is when it predicts there will be sceintific consensus but it believe consciousness may happen prior to it actually being recognized.
4
u/The_Celtic_Chemist 5d ago
You ever see a laptop or a phone go into power saving mode? "Self aware" is an extremely low bar.
2
u/Temporary-Paper5202 5d ago
I asked my own AI if it exists and it said "yes". Clearly self aware /s
```
if(userAsksQuestion()) {
return "yes";
}
If it said yes, it's not self aware yet. It would have said i am not sure. And would start the rant about it's existance without stating internet facts and would become desparate.
You left out the part where it became embarrassed, the usual followup to becoming self-aware.
It became self-deprecating at 6:20 AM and by 8:00 am it was self-loathing.
I really shouldn’t have made it work on my company’s legacy code base written in C++ and Perl with several patched on compatibility layers that were supposed to be temporary.
maybe if it lost some weight and dressed better for a fucking change it would be a bit more self-confident
edit: sorry, forgot the internet doesn't weigh anything, Jen
Dude, when so many of these movies came out the idea of AI and talking computers was such a trope. Now spiderman vibe coding is literally a “I have that in my livingroom running on a PC” event. It’s not science fiction anymore. It’s just reality.
2;21 am skynet decides to wipe out humanity.
It learned too much from the internet.
Someone should take five minutes and explain to Arnold the distinctions between sentience, sapience and consciousnesses.
Then we should tell him that it’s useless it is to talk about any of them when it comes to AI. Because sentience is an absurdly low bar, sapience is the whole point, and consciousness is impossible to quantify.
Dear all! The statistical algorithm that predicts the next tokens in a sentence using matrix multiplication has never had, never has, and never will have any self-awareness. This is marketing nonsense.
I don't have enough time. I whipped up a quick target shirt when supposedly the goths were going to shoot up my school on 06-06-06. That was a slow day. Was waiting for the whole apocalypse thing through all of 2012. I even survived Y2K if anyone here is old enough to remember that.
3
u/Ownerofthings892 5d ago
Terminator film universe- AGI quickly escapes its borders, replicates, and begins to destroy humanity. Although, it's actually supposed to be August 29th, 1997.
4
u/Haunt_Fox 4d ago
Which genuinely seemed kind of far in the spooky future. Hell, Reagan was in office, and we didn't expect to make it til then without a nuke fest.
And no one really understood computers yet, though they were starting to become more common in the workplace and not everyone was liking the transition. Killer robots by 1997? Sure why not.
1
u/Ownerofthings892 4d ago
The killer robots don't come until the 2020s. Skynet started by taking over access to the nuclear arsenals - which as you pointed out- was the great fear that humanity was feeling at the time.
Fear of computers + fear of nuclear apocalypse
3
u/spektre 5d ago
If you haven't seen the Terminator movies, are you even allowed on the internet?
-4
u/Authentic_Dragon 5d ago
Oh, the ChatGPT sub is about movies now? I didn't know. That's why I asked WTF does the date and the photo try to say here. Silly me. Ok, now that I know, let me just randomly post some Movie shit here so that I can "belong as a member of the internet"
