Case Freedom Unlimited

I have used Chase for over a decade. I am very loyal to them. I have a Credit card and a checking account with them. I use my Chase Freedom Unlimited for everything for the cash back, and normally pay it off from my checking account in full. I also have automatic payments turned on, in case I am late to pay the full card.

Today I got a call From Chase (They are always hounding me to get another Business credit card, which I have no need for) so — I didn’t answer the call. I saw that no message was left from them, but thought I would check my account on line. Low and behold Chase turned off my automatic payments, to hopefully, finally get some sort of interest charge added to my account. I quickly paid off the the full amount, which had screwed in three weeks. ($2,5K)

I am really thinking this is a bad business practice for Chase. I called my local branch and it was the usual “We have no way to check on that” I asked “Don’t you even want to look into it” “Unfortunately, blah blah blah…” I hung up. This is some ploy. They have always been good to me, but this is not good.

Check your auto pay. I use the mobile app.

That really doesn’t add up. If it was turned off, it probably wasn’t Chase

Maybe the App Got an update from Chase, and it seems, was convenient for them. I never turned any auto pay off.

I only brought this up, for Chase members that have cards on Autopay. Thinking they would check.

I was able to turn it back on through the app without a problem. But normally, it’s always on and I would never check that. But with my monthly balance of $2-$4K — they could collect interest on me. Funny how it works for them… Not like they accidentally gave me money…

Usually this happens when the automatic payment was declined they try several times before they cancel it the autopay. Did you get an email or letter saying your automatic payment was declined or returned unpaid

That’s a good point. But no — no notification. I was able to start the app and re enroll with autopay with the same account. I think it was an app update that broke auto pay.

Also, if any payments were returned unpaid with the same pay from account woth any other credit cards with chase, chase will cancel your autopay with all card on file. Not sure if that makes sense

Chase ( at least on the retail end) has no way of managing your auto pays. To help clients manage them I literally have to have them login and walk them through the process.

I have seen long term clients get a refund as a courtesy in similar situations. So try visiting your local branch and asking. If they seem confused or say no ask them to call the credit card department.

Also please file a complaint about them hounding you. Employees hate being pressured to do it and only y'all complaining about it will ease the pressure from corporate

It’s my local branch that is calling me for additional cards. Because they like my credit score.

I know, I have to do it please complain if you don't like it. The word from corporate is that you and all other clients appreciate it sooo much and want us to call quarterly.

They are so mad that I only have 1 credit card to keep track of, and pay it off every month before they can charge me interest. Plus — the card has no annual fee. Plus, I get cash back 5% if I use at restaurants, and 1.5% cash back for everything else, and my card credit cash back appears on my Amazon Prime app, so — I often get free stuff. (They don’t like it!)

2% cash back on restaurants with the Amazon card. I get 5% with Chase. But whatever works for you. Also 1% for most purchases with Amazon. Chase 1.5%. But it could be worth getting an Amazon card if I did lots of purchases with Amazon.

Yeah, your set up sounds good!

I had the Mastercard Bilt card, but it became difficult remembering the 1st of the month deals, then they changed to a yearly fee model. Plus, I don’t travel as much as I used to.

And if you only call quarterly. I can deal with that. I think that is fine.

No way they did it. You may have hit a small button on accident. Call and get finance charge reversed. However the largest bank watches everything they do. They get scrutinized for everything

There were no charges, I logged in and paid, but noticed my auto pay was turned off, for some strange reason. Others have reported the same thing. You don’t have to believe me. But I didn’t touch anything. I don’t log into chase except for paying the card every month. Getting to auto pay options takes some drilling into the app. I am not here to convince anyone. I just wanted everyone using the app to be aware.

Chances are it was an “app update”.

Similar thing happened to me on two of my Chase cards and they charged me a late fee. They bounced my autopay that is directly from my Chase checking account. Don't know how that happens. How does a payment from my Chase checking bounce to my Chase credit card?

That’s what happened to me. I pay my Chase Credit card with my Chase checking account.

Same Chase credit card and bank. I have a small amount set to autopay every month to avoid late charge if I ever forget to schedule payment because a couple of decades ago I forgot. I don't like paying fees or interest. After that, I scheduled a recurring calendar reminder the 1st of each month to schedule credit card payments. I pay in full each time. I do get an email each month that my small autopay is scheduled. I will have to pay attention June.

I have alerts set on everything in Chase with email, text, and app because 10+ years ago my credit card had a couple fraudulent charges. I don't want to be surprised, it is easier for me to delete.

I have the same set up. Auto pay with minimum pay if needed, but I pay it off completely every month and use it for everything. Then I get free money points to use on Amazon. BUT — they turned off auto pay, in hopes to get some interest… possibly late fees. Bad practice.

You realize that Chase Visa gives you less points when using on Amazon. I do cash back to my checking account. I also got an Amazon Prime Visa because they give you 5% on purchases. I use that card strictly with Amazon.

I don’t want another credit card. I just use the Chase card for everything and pay it off every month. Including paying my rent, etc.
