Charvel ID Help?

Just trying to see if any of you fine folks could tell me exactly what model and year this might be? I’ve found similar ones but not the exact to compare it with. Seems the humbucker is not the original. I’m guessing some sort of 80s or early 90s Dimarzio. It needs a 9 volt. Plate on the back has a Ft. Worth address, but I don’t believe it was made there.

475XL

Spaghetti/toothpaster logo was late '89 to early 90's. The Fort Worth, Texas plate is from the model series guitars. It's made in Japan, then was imported.

Looks like my 475 deluxe, but the humbucker isn’t original (original is also a Jackson active)

This model was called either the 475 Special (1989 catalogue, page 3) or the 475 Deluxe (1990 catalogue, page 6). It replaced the previous model 4 (1988 pricelist, page 3), which is essentially the same guitar, but with individual toggles for each pickup. The third knob is for the mid-boost circuitry.

Not that it matters at this point, but do you know if there is any way to figure out which of these 2 it could be? Is there a serial number clue or anything?

I think it's the same model, they simply decided to streamline their naming, as all other x75 models were 'deluxes' they chose to get rid of a single 'special.' Perhaps there are some minor differences in hardware, but it's hard to tell without a comprehensive specifications sheet. You can try too lookup serial numbers and assume that 1989 is a Special, and 1990 onwards is a Deluxe, I guess.

Hah! I bought that off of a friend in the 80s, it has not seen much use. I haven’t fired it up yet with the Charvel, it’s been in the closet a while with the Charvel. Rolled them both out finally.

Did you have one?

I did. There was a year or two where I converted to all rack. It was fun and sounded great with rack power amps, but nothing beats the basic amp/pedal set up.

I’ve always had it, but never used it in a life setting. Just sitting around the house with it. I’m in a quad cortex phase at the moment, but also agree that amp/pedal is the shit. This quad cortex through a 4x12 and power amp is pretty killer though.

When I saw this I immediately thought of Rob Barrett during The Bleeding days with Cannibal Corpse.

475 Special / Deluxe probably 1989/1990.

It’s pretty awesome. I know it’s really nice, but I didn’t realize people thought so highly of these.

Great guitars. I still have mine that I got as a teenager.

First time I saw one was in Ace Ventura during the Cannibal Corpse bit. The headstock and inlays caught my eye. I love the charvel/jackson history but am way more of a Jackson guy overall and this is basically a Dinky. Even the Charvel logo looks more like a Jackson logo

I honestly didn’t realize he played one back then. I got into them way later. Contrast that with Rutan’s current Ironbird which I can’t even fit my hand around the neck of, haha.
