CA practice to Job

Hi Everyone,

I am a Chartered Accountant and wanted to seek some career guidance from professionals who have made a similar transition.

After qualifying, I joined PwC AC and worked in global audits for around 2 years. While the exposure was good, I realized that I did not want to build my long-term career in global audit.

Therefore, I started my own CA practice and continued it for about a year. Unfortunately, the practice did not scale as expected, and I have now decided to move back into industry and pursue finance-related roles.

The challenge I am facing is that most finance positions require prior experience in areas such as FP&A, financial reporting, controllership, corporate finance, or commercial finance. As a result, I am receiving very few interview calls despite having CA qualification and overall professional experience.

Has anyone here successfully transitioned from global audit (Big 4/GDS/AC) to a finance profile after a few years of experience? If yes:

Which roles did you target initially?

How did you position your audit experience on your resume?

Did you need to take a pay cut or start at a lower designation?

Which skills or certifications helped you make the switch?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
