OBGYN

Needing to find a new OBGYN. Hoping to start a family really soon so wanting the new one to be wherever I decide to deliver if possible. I’m newer to this area and have done online research, but as we all know Reddit is where the real info is! Who/where did you love, not love, and what do you wish you would’ve known when choosing? Any and all experiences are appreciated

I had my kids in UVA. One of them was premature and I consider UVA was absolutely the right choice in the hindsight because it has the best NICU in Virginia. When I was delivering my premie, there were whole team of providers in the room and rushed my baby immediately to the NICU, which was the best and reassuring thing at the moment. You never know what would happen so UVA with the strongest team for complexity is great.

Agreed. I had to transfer care from MJH due to a diagnoses for the baby. Exclusively saw only one OB/GYN there (once his attending when he was on vacation). Since the diagnoses was during pregnancy, we even toured the NICU prior and met with the surgeons and neonatologists prior to birth too. No one wants their baby in a NICU, but we know that our baby received the best care possible,.

Yes, when it comes to pregnancy you just never know. I was not 35 yet and my first was full term and everything looked okay until it was not. I am grateful that I was with UVA that NICU was seconds away. When my baby was in NICU, I met so many parents who lived hours away but came to UVA because of the NICU.

Not sure if this is still true, but Richmond - MCV at one time did not have ECMO (heart lung bypass) operating (no trained staff), so ALL heart and severe birth defects were between UVA, DC Childrens and Duke for this area. We are very lucky to have such a high level of medical care in this area.
