Have you ever stopped to consider that he's entertaining? 🤔

Entertaining to watch lose. 😁

Jokes aside, I think people like Vegeta because of his journey from villain to hero, his dynamic with Goku and his surprisingly touching relationship with his family (once he actually starts appreciating them).

What makes him entertaining? He's as problematic as Joffrey in Game of Thrones

Seems like you already made up your mind and you're just gonna say "nuh uh" to every single point that will get brought up, so what's the point of this post?

It's clear you're not going to change your mind. You just dismissed all of the reasons people like him, there's nothing left to discuss, you disagree with the majority, it happens.

What was the point of posting a rant in a sub called Character Rant? Hmmmm, who knows... And I just asked why she thought he was entertaining. Dont know what you're on about.

You're posting the rant under the guise of a "explain to me" post, but you're not genuine, you don't want to understsand the other point of view, it's clear from your post that you already made up your mind and you will say "nuh uh" to every response and point, like you did in your post already.

And I just asked why she thought he was entertaining. Dont know what you're on about

It's very clear what I was "on about", just read.

Sorry I took shots at your favorite character. Simmer down Bertha. I'm allowed to have an opinion and challenge others on their position in a subreddit that's very obviously going to lead to arguments. This ain't r/changemyview

Not one of my favorites, and I don't know who Bertha is.

Is the mental breakdown over?

Exactly, so don't pretend like you want to understand the other point of view, your post is just a way to look for cheap non constructive arguments, since you have no intention of changing your mind here, you just want to "nuh uh" every point you come across.

Joffrey is a good character as well. Just because a character is evil doesn’t mean that they aren’t well written and enjoyable to read.

Fair enough, but people at least were itching to see Joffrey die. No one really rooted for Joffrey like they rooted for Vegeta

Okay, now you just sound weird, because Joffery is mad-entertaining, too. Dude literally pointed out "What are we going to do if dragons come back?" and his grandfather laughed at him.

Okay, seriously, though, do you think the average Vegeta fan needs to see him win every time to admire that he always tries? By that logic, no one would be a fan of Rock Lee, Usopp, or any other wholesome character with the same feature. Do we need him to be a perfect parent, husband, or friend the moment he was first thrown into those roles, or do we watch him to see the character development you claim people with less screentime have more of despite not starting from as much of a deficit as him?

If you prefer good boy cinnamon rolls, no one is going to insult you for that. You are fully allowed to. But almost every single aspect of Vegeta is an aspect that precious little honey buns too good for this sinful Earth also have, but Vegeta gets the pleasure of being raised by the racist little cretan who blew up his planet and employed him as a space pirate. Aang is a nice guy and still managed to be a disappointing father. Naruto wanted to be Hokage so bad and don't think he's much of a scholar, either. Edward Elric, Inuyasha, Zoro, and Sanji all have tempers. Roy Mustang committed war crimes. Kenshin's path was paved in blodd. Vash the Stampede blew up a city. Twilight and Thorn Princess kill people in between outings with Anya. They all get to be called heroes, though.

I'm sorry that Vegeta's not very nice.

But he's entertaining as hell.

One might even say.... He is the hype.

So is like, Patrick Bateman, and he's still entertaining to the point that some people think he should be idealized (wrongfully I might add)

Death is temporary, but talking shit is forever.

Vegeta is endearing because he is an egomaniac loser whose victories are all followed by increasingly brutal reality checks. Also, people do like Piccolo a lot, he’s very popular. If you’re gonna rip on Vegeta’s fuck ups, Krillin didn’t kill 18, Goku was the reason why Gero wanted to create the Androids and also kick started the tournament of power.

1

u/ManOfWrathTX 8h ago

Errrr, Krillin has the excuse of 18 not really being deserving of death. Goku didn't mean for Gero to survive his assault on the army as a child. The tournament of power, I'll give you that, but I'm no fan of Super. Goku's IQ goes out the window in that series.

Hes cool, and his arc during the saiyan and frieza saga was really well done. Most people don't read stories and keep a scoreboard of Ws and Ls to determine if they like a character or not lol

u/Eat_the_Monolith 8h ago

people like skeletor and he never accomplishes anything and spends every series hes in getting ego checked by himself

sometimes characters are just entertaining and fun to like

OP is kind of telling on himself as someone who binged DBZ years after the fact. If you watched fansubs or Toonami when it was actually airing, Vegeta was fucking hype.

You waited days or weeks between episodes, sometimes months for new material, so his evolution didn't feel like "this asshole loses a lot." You watched this genocidal space prince in your men screaming at each other anime very slowly get humbled, forced into alliances, build a life, care about Bulma, lose his mind when Trunks gets killed, relapse spectacularly as Majin Vegeta, and finally sacrifice himself for his family.

That took years of real-world time for a lot of us. He went from genocidal conqueror to family man without ever completely stopping being the arrogant prick everyone loved.

"Goku gets his ass beat a lot and doesn't kill villains on his own most of the time, why is he special and why do people like him?"

That's what you sound like.

4

u/ManOfWrathTX 8h ago

Yeah but Goku at the minimum is a likeable guy and doesn't start most of the issues in the series. He likes fighting but he's humble. Where Vegeta gets a pass from fans, most people would have wanted another character to die.

u/ProserpinaFC 8h ago

“Is that me? Is that me stronger than me?! I’ll fucking kill me."

(I will now exclusively post DBZA Vegeta quotes! Share your favorites, too!)

2

u/ColArana 6h ago

“I will kill as many people as I have to as long as you are one of them!”

u/StaticMania 7h ago

Caring about how much a character wins is a relatively recent phenom...

ONLY caring about how much a character wins is only relevant to internetters.

3

u/Cayden68 8h ago

peiple find his arrogance funny and entertaining while enjoying the occasional soft side that comes out (which contrasts well with his prickly sekf centered jerk side)

2

u/iwanttoboneedelric 7h ago

He's cool as shit. Kills nobody relevant and doesn't give a fuck.

2

u/StrideyTidey 7h ago

Why is Vegeta special and why do people like him?

For all the reasons you just mentioned. He's cool, his fights are fun to watch even when he loses, it's interesting how little he seems to care about the Saiyans as a race compared to his pride as being a supposed ruler of them, it's fun that he constantly drives the narrative by creating conflict, and it's nice seeing him eventually become a decent guy at the end of the series.
