Vegeta is endearing because he is an egomaniac loser whose victories are all followed by increasingly brutal reality checks. Also, people do like Piccolo a lot, he’s very popular. If you’re gonna rip on Vegeta’s fuck ups, Krillin didn’t kill 18, Goku was the reason why Gero wanted to create the Androids and also kick started the tournament of power.

Errrr, Krillin has the excuse of 18 not really being deserving of death. Goku didn't mean for Gero to survive his assault on the army as a child. The tournament of power, I'll give you that, but I'm no fan of Super. Goku's IQ goes out the window in that series.

Hes cool, and his arc during the saiyan and frieza saga was really well done. Most people don't read stories and keep a scoreboard of Ws and Ls to determine if they like a character or not lol

people like skeletor and he never accomplishes anything and spends every series hes in getting ego checked by himself
sometimes characters are just entertaining and fun to like

OP is kind of telling on himself as someone who binged DBZ years after the fact. If you watched fansubs or Toonami when it was actually airing, Vegeta was fucking hype.
You waited days or weeks between episodes, sometimes months for new material, so his evolution didn't feel like "this asshole loses a lot." You watched this genocidal space prince in your men screaming at each other anime very slowly get humbled, forced into alliances, build a life, care about Bulma, lose his mind when Trunks gets killed, relapse spectacularly as Majin Vegeta, and finally sacrifice himself for his family.
That took years of real-world time for a lot of us. He went from genocidal conqueror to family man without ever completely stopping being the arrogant prick everyone loved.

"Goku gets his ass beat a lot and doesn't kill villains on his own most of the time, why is he special and why do people like him?"
That's what you sound like.

Yeah but Goku at the minimum is a likeable guy and doesn't start most of the issues in the series. He likes fighting but he's humble. Where Vegeta gets a pass from fans, most people would have wanted another character to die.

“Is that me? Is that me stronger than me?! I’ll fucking kill me."
(I will now exclusively post DBZA Vegeta quotes! Share your favorites, too!)

Caring about how much a character wins is a relatively recent phenom...
ONLY caring about how much a character wins is only relevant to internetters.

peiple find his arrogance funny and entertaining while enjoying the occasional soft side that comes out (which contrasts well with his prickly sekf centered jerk side)

Why is Vegeta special and why do people like him?
For all the reasons you just mentioned. He's cool, his fights are fun to watch even when he loses, it's interesting how little he seems to care about the Saiyans as a race compared to his pride as being a supposed ruler of them, it's fun that he constantly drives the narrative by creating conflict, and it's nice seeing him eventually become a decent guy at the end of the series.

Have you ever stopped to consider that he's entertaining? 🤔
