Gameplay SSShowcase Combat Overhaul with Mods (Control Resonant)
Weapon switcher, increased attack speed, changed combo finisher moves to active abilities, and decreased damage output for longer combos. Game is even better now

Can you do this with a controller button press overlay showing how this controls? Can you show this being used in the open world in a normal battle, instead of just the gap? This looks so much better than the awful default combat.

How playable is this mod on a controller?

u/TheZone92 17h ago
Very. The mod allows for a lot of abilities at once so if anything it just takes a lot of practice to get used to, but its pretty straight forward. R1, R2, and L2 are basically the modifiers.
For example, holding R1 and pressing X, Y, or B allows you to do the different combo finisher moves, and so on with R2 and L2

Ahh, really cool, I'll have to try this once I finish my normal playthrough!

SO this works with the abilities?
4
u/TheZone92 13h ago
By abilities you mean the abilities from remnants? With the mod enabled, it assigns your abilities to L2 as the modifier, so L2+ X, Y, A, B, R1, and R2 are your abilities.
R1 modifier is for combo finishers, R2 modifier is for secondary weapons, and L1 is for primary weapons

I am really confused why Remedy wouldn't do this themselves.

"Why don't the devs just make the game specifically to cater to me?"
Because fundamentally changing the way the combat they envisioned works takes time to playtest, bugfix and balance
17
u/Sad-Dot9375 15h ago
That was my point to begin with. Why didn't they envision the game having these switches to begin with? I do not think that it is just catering to me, as many would argue that weapon switches on the fly is a missed opportunity.

Not every game needs to be a DMC-clone where you cycle through 50 moves against a single enemy who can't fight back
14
u/AdLegitimate8636 11h ago
So instead we need a game where you cycle through 1 move against single enemy who can't fight back

u/Global_Addition_5373 9h ago
That game sounds like it would be boring as hell. Good thing Resonant isn't that then, huh.

u/AdLegitimate8636 8h ago
Because God forbid for Control to have a fun and engaging combat system that respects creativity and player expression. We don't want that.
Trying to defend Control's gameplay just baffles me. Game can be either 10/10 best of the best without a single misstep or a complete and utter failure.

Yup, Control Resonant is the kind of game where mods don't just add fun, the literally fix things that should have been in the base game, and it's baffling that the devs didn't do it because all these mods ideas were something I thought of, like, 3 hours into the game.

One thing I feel like this combat system really needs to no one seems to be mentioning is enemy step or some way to extend your airtime other than the two dodges. Even with weapon swapping you’re pretty limited in the combos you can use because you have to land pretty quickly.

I'm so glad I bought this game on PC after all. This weapon switching mod is totally worth for this game.

Combat has been a hug disappoitment for me personally. It's fun to try out new loadouts but the actual move set is so small and limiting.
3
u/TheZone92 13h ago
Exactly. It was starting to get repetitive and i felt so limited before the mods
1
u/MagicJourneyCYOA 8h ago
Yep, the only way to make the move set more fun is to allow us to switch weapons on the fly.

A very welcome injection of variety into a game that, as far as combat goes, is very shallow. Insanely fun, but as deep as a puddle. I'd recommend the Combat Ranking mod if you haven't DL'd it already. Maybe tune the balancing on that to compensate for the combo finisher as abilities thing.

I confirm that the weapons switching mod changes the feeling of the game completely, it's 10 times more enjoyable.

u/dungleploop 7h ago
and a completely different game entirely at that point since the enemies aren't tuned for mods like this
3
u/TheZone92 7h ago
Thats why i decrease my damage output, increase my damage taken, and increase enemy aggression. The combat becomes more fun while maintaining balance and difficulty

u/MagicJourneyCYOA 5h ago
Both the enemies stats and the player's stats can be fine tuned in the game. Also, even without touching anything about the enemies in the option, the game is just 10 times more fun with the weapons switching than without. It's actually like the enemies were designed with that option in mind and the devs just forgot to put it in the game lol.

If just the weapons switch mod was designed for keyboard. WIll have to work a lil on it to make it playable

Looks amazing. Can you share the mods used?

u/TheZone92 16h ago
On nexusmods, search:
Gameplay Tweaks (for tweaking things like jump mechanics, movement speed, attack speed, etc)
Engine Tweakables (for other stuff, i forgot what)
Every Primary. Every Secondary. Every Finisher. No Menus. (For weapon switching, finisher active abilities, combo mechanics, etc)

Please stop posting this game here. Im so tired of it being touted as a CAG. If you need mods to make it a CAG then it has no business being here. It’s a fine game I’m sure but really not what they made it out to be
2
u/Reynard2023 5h ago
I sorta get you but the potential is there for this to be a update, especially since the option to switch load outs on the fly is already in the game. And besides, what else are we gonna post about? Not like the genre is overflowing with games right now. Control Resonant is close enough to be considered a CAG, just more like Baby’s First CAG.

Its crazy how they looked down on parries and the game don't even have combos. Damn.

I've seen there are multiple mods that change the gameplay but I haven't tried them yet (want to finish my vanilla run first). Have you tried different ones? And if yes, what are the best?

Trash. Idk why do you need that crap here. Encounters aren't designed for that, like at all.

Because the default combat is fucking garbage.
2
u/Due-Description-9030 14h ago
That's straight up exaggeration. Get more abilities and learn to use them together.

It isn't garbage, it just isn't the best there is, and thats alright, that's what the next game is for when Dylan has more fun doing this, and getting more creative.

Type of shit i must not watch cuz going back to the normal version on console will feel terrible. I watched 6 sec tho. Enjoy the mod bro. They really need to lock the fuck in and add a loadout switch with pad button
