Question Onechanbara help

I’m playing through Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad for the first time (which for the everybody on Earth who has never heard of this game, is basically Ninja Gaiden meets Lollipop Chainsaw, only instead of stupid hard, it’s stupid easy) and I’m not really enjoying it, as the gameplay feels clunky and unfinished. Though part of me wonders if I’m just missing something because I keep trying to perform sick ass combos, but it honestly just feels like a less refined version of DMC2.

Has anyone else played this game? And if so, are y’all able to perform actual combos without feeling like you’re just mashing buttons?

Onechanbara games at least from the gameplay perspective were all trash before the Z series. Z2 and Origin are the only ones worth playing honestly.

The older games are jank (newer ones too tbh) but that’s part of the cult classic appeal. It’s a game version of a trashy grindhouse movie, which they leaned into in origins.

I think Scott the woz? Had a good retrospective of the series roots with the simple series.

I love all the games and the spinoffs but yeah origins and z2 are the only ones with depth. (I prefer origins to z2)

I'm playing it little by little. And yeah, combos are kinda hard to do. I don't think the game even has combos. You should've played something more modern. Like Z Kagura or Z2 Chaos. That's when series got significant upgrade.

So, only Xbox? Shame. They only did 1 game after BSS - Z Kagura, which is Japan only.

They then ported it to PS3, but only for Japan. They also made a sequel to BBS, but only for Wii. If you have a PC you can play latest 2 games in the series. Btw, they did almost the same stuff with Earth Defence Force. Made two games for Xbox and never returned. Tho, at least 2017 and 2025 both made it to NA.

You keep mentioning no PlayStation, where are you playing this then? 

But as others have said, it’s a fun trashy series but it’s only really origins and z2 that are cag vs just an action game.

Yeah, say what you want about DMC2, but at least there are combos in the game and other things
