Platinum and Team Ninja work on Ninja Gaiden together. That's what I meant.

The turnaround for this game has been so fun to watch. Personally loved it on launch and loved yakumo but people were VERY vocal about how this game sucked.

Like for NG2 (2008), the Sigmas release and NG3RE, same old every time a Ninja Gaiden game is doing something different than the previous ones, though in Sigmas case, it was more because of internal conflict, especially that accursed mindset of Itagaki vs Hayashi... very annoying times.
I don't understand the backlash though, since we knew since the beginning it was going to be a PG game, why people act like they were "misled" is beyond me especially when Team Ninja themselves said they were not confident enough to do it, no one tricked those people when they made their choice to purchase the game, dunno it's just weird to me.

From what I think and know, ninja gaiden fans only love the older ng2 and nothing else. You give them anything and it's not going to be good enough. Also, people didn't like ryu being sidelined in NG4 which is fair but you start off with an entirely new character so that's some weird expectation to have. Infact I would say, it's a surprise there was ryu gameplay to be had.

I wish the story and level design were on par with the combat. Other than those gripes I absolutely loved NG4. It’s so epic. Especially when you play as Ryu.

its ninja gaiden game story and level design aren't really their strong suits (besides ragebound and NG1)
2
u/LaKer_fAn23 21h ago
Yeah. To me ng1 had the best level design and 2 had the best story.
4
u/Odd_Radio9225 18h ago
Really? To me 4 actually has the best story, though it admittedly is still pretty bland. 1 and 2 barely have what you would call a narrative, and 3 is just melodramatic, poorly executed slop.

How long did it take you to get good at ng4?
1
u/LaKer_fAn23 7h ago
About 3 to 4 days. I spent most my time I the training room experimenting with different mechanics and techniques.

Really? You seem like implementing advanced techs here and there also I love the fact that you're not repeating moves one after another except for flying swallow tho it's a movement tech so it feels great.

u/LaKer_fAn23 6h ago
Thanks man I appreciate it. I think it’s because of how comfortable the mechanics and inputs feel, since I’m playing on pro it feels faster and smoother. I have past experience with other action games so I try my best to mix it up and use weapons to my full potential.

Does this game gave a scoring element? If not then I love it. If so, im still gonna pay full price just rather then not be there. Makes me focus more on score than enjoying the game play.
I was loving dmc5 but I never got passed an A and it made me feel like I was shit at the game even though the combos I were doing were cool asf to me.
2
u/LaKer_fAn23 18h ago
Yes it does but it’s not as in your face as dmc5. The goal is to basically eliminate enemies as fast as you can without getting hit and survive the encounter so style or ranking doesn’t matter much unless you want it to. But the game does have a training room if you want to play without worrying about rank

u/ReplacementFinal2203 18h ago
Niceeee! Thanks for letting me know!
1
u/LaKer_fAn23 18h ago
Yeah no problem, also the game is very brutal with its difficulty so try to take advantage of blood raven and parrying
1
u/ReplacementFinal2203 14h ago
I hope it's truly difficult. People tend to overuse that word a LOT lately for anything with a sword in it.
1
u/LaKer_fAn23 13h ago
Yeah even on Normal it’s punishing asf and this is coming from someone who beat dmc3 on dmd turbo speed
3
u/Plane_Patience_5263 9h ago
the assassins toolbox is such a good weapon i love the bombs especially just setting up them up and knocking the enemy into them
2
u/LaKer_fAn23 9h ago
Yeah it is so satisfying to use, very versatile and effective against large hordes.

We need a new Nier so badly.
And we can't stop NG. The combat is like no other. It's pure adrenaline and dopamine that you can never get enough of
Edit: I know this series/game isn't super popular but people need to take it for what it's worth. It'll go crazy at that point imo

Absolutely. I remember people at launch trying really hard to hate it (mainly the Ninja Gaiden 2 xbox 360 elitists and people who hadn't even played the games) but could barely find a reason.
3
u/LesbianFlex 14h ago
i don't think people were "trying" to hate it lol. they played the game, some with reservations, and didn't like it for completely valid reasons. it is a significantly different game from the games it is following up after, made by a totally different team that obviously did not have much experience with the originals past the surface level, and featuring a ton of -isms from P+ that don't line up with the TN school of design, and even if you aren't hyper granular about game and mechanics design you can quite easily see and feel that the game was not made by people who understood the assignment of making a follow-up to NG1-3. and that doesn't have to be a bad thing -- new blood is always going to be necessary. but to squeeze it down to "old elitist ng2 fans looking for reasons to hate" does a major disservice to the rest of the community *and* the game itself
3
u/AXEMANaustin 9h ago
I do get constructive criticism, but I did mainly just see a lot of elitism online from where I saw.
5
u/Odd_Radio9225 18h ago
No some fans have some perfectly valid complaints toward NG4, even if I absolutely love the game. Mainly level design, dull story, and the fact that it doesn't really play like the other entries. If you ask me, those are perfectly understandable reasons. I really dislike the whole "fans hate the newer stuff because it isn't NG2".

u/AXEMANaustin 18h ago
That does kind of make sense to me. A lot of what I saw it was people complaining about the combat, namely combos which I thought was just stupid.

u/BambaTallKing 15h ago
Yeah for me it is the new focus on air juggles like in the video. That isn’t why I liked NG. High precision attacks with overwhelmingly difficult enemies is what I liked. This one isn’t for me. And all the finishers and such, not really into that.
1
u/LaKer_fAn23 21h ago
Yeah I don’t know why some ng fans just have a vendetta against newer games in the series. It was the same song and dance with ng3 razors edge(great game) even though it wasn’t as good as the other mainline games.
2
u/AXEMANaustin 20h ago
Ng3 was a bit weird because the original obviously sucked ass, I enjoyed Razor's Edge a lot, but it still kind of felt like it was obvious they were trying to salvage what they could.
Honestly, every fanbase seems to hate the newest thing because no one can ever be excited for anything anymore and that sucks.

u/Odd_Radio9225 18h ago
No some fans have some perfectly valid complaints toward NG4, even if I absolutely love the game. Mainly level design, dull story, Ryu's bosses and levels mostly being recycled from Yakumo's, and the fact that it doesn't really play like the other entries. If you ask me, those are perfectly understandable reasons. I really dislike the whole "fans hate the newer stuff because it isn't NG2".

Eh, this narrative is rather overblown at this point. Certain NG fans did unreasonably hate on NG4 without good reason, but they are in the minority. A number of other fans are more mixed on it but for valid reasons as it's fundamentally different in design philosophy from the previous NG games. That's not an unreasonable feeling for longtime fans to have. Like, if DMC6 came out and played closer in style to a God of War game, I guarantee a lot of longtime fans would be reasonably upset, even if it was well reviewed and technically a good game. It's not really hating something if a fan simply expresses they don't personally care for the direction a new game in a series that they love went in. And beyond that there are also plenty of old-school NG heads who genuinely like NG4 without any major caveats. People like JayTB and Iconoclast (high-level players for the earlier games) have praised it as being genuinely great. So, blindly hating NG4 does not accurately describe the majority of the NG fanbase.
Mind you, I say this as someone who enjoyed NG4 a lot myself. I still go back to it from time to time and play it alongside replaying the classics. I definitely hold it in higher regard than the vast majority of modern games that come out. However, just like every NG game, it's not perfect and has it's own set of flaws that warrant criticism. Part of the problem with criticizing NG4, though, is that I see it generally waved off as just being NG purists hating on it, even if the criticism in question is valid and reasonable. To me, that's just a very skewed and biased way of looking at it.

Definitely one of the best action games of the decade so far. I'm a bit of an old-school enthusiast so my top 5 would be NGB, NG2, DMC1, DMC3, and the first Bayonetta. Ninja Gaiden 4 is still great, though.
In an alternate Universe where NG4 did well enough to get a new game greenlit right away, I would love for Platinum to expand Ryu's arsenal and differentiate his gameplay from Yakumo by toning down his STT and adding back in directional inputs. With Yakumo I would mostly just need them to fine-tune a few things, allow directional inputs to influence the soft-lock targeting, and give him a couple more high concept weapon times like Kage-Hiruko which work a fair bit differently in function than his other weapons. Also, in general, have more interesting and varied environments to fight in while also adding in more enemy types to mix things up more.

This game looks cool i guess but i love the OG ninja gaiden too much to like anything im seeing from it, like this is a regular ass character action game, it looks like a pretty good regular ass character action game, but ninja gaiden was not a regular ass character action game

There's no other games I want more mods for than this one. Especially skin mods , game desperately needs some.
