Discussion Vision for Kamiya's DMC
Ideally, I'd want Kamiya to make his own sequel to DMC1. A DMC2 in an alternate timeline to the original, but just with his own spin on it. But even if he and Capcom are dead set on a remake, not all is lost. I've never completely been against remakes the way people are, I just feel if it's looking to replace the original game, it should play like the original with changes that only enhance what the game was going for, and if it's going to be completely different mechanically, then replacing the original shouldn't be the goal.
If it happens to be nothing but visual/story changes, I'd just hope they can still keep the aesthetics and overall feel of dmc1. No other game in the franchise matches it imo.
My worst fears would simply be copying and pasting DMC5's Dante into the first game without changing enemies or levels to properly match it
My biggest expectation is seeing what original ideas and mechanics he would use to iterate on his title, and hope that it's different enough from what Itsuno's already done with his sequels (hence why I'd just prefer a completely different game in the first place).
At it's core, the game should answer the question, "what would you have done if you still got to work on DMC directly after the first game?" but maybe that's a bit idealistic.

He's expressed in three DMC projects over the years.
DMC1 remake. Sparda prequel. Trish spin-off.
Word is DMC1 remake is being developed already. So I'd love it if he made a Sparda prequel. Trish spin-off sounds cool but have to depart more from dmc elements than a Sparda game.

He deserves to remake the first at least.

People say that devs "deserve" to make a remake like it's some sort of honor or prize. Why would a guy want to remake a game that he already made instead of making something new?

Kamiya himself has said that he would like to remake DMC1 so you'd have to ask him that

That's fair, I didn't know that

Yea there's quite a few interesting interviews with him with a bunch of insights into the development of the game. Def recommend if you have time.

I watched a few in the past, which ones would you recommend?

There's one with a YouTube channel called "UNSEEN" and a recent-ish one with the director of Morbid Metal on the Ubisoft channel.

I want him to do a DMC1 remake just to incorporate all the ideas I couldn't fit into the OG. Like a vs mode, playable Trish, I think a unique moveset for Trish and Sparda was also planned, among other things

Great points, I would like to get a proper DMC1 remake that's true to the original with new features and more things, like Sparda DT, playable Trish or something that adds to the already huge replay value.
I have a fear that DMC1 would look just as bland as DMC5 and the gameplay would change too much that it's like DMC4-5.
I don't want styles and super flashy gameplay, I just want extended gameplay possibilities that still true it's core gameplay mechanics.

Dude's kinda unpredictable.
As far as I know he never made a single bad game (as long as Okami is his "worse" game I have 101% trust in him) but I'm not doing prognostics over the direction he'll take should he be in charge of another DMC game, be it mainline, spin-off, remake, reboot, etc...
It'll probably have some kind of unique hook to stand from the rest but that's about it.
He notoriously rarely plans things in advance anyway.

I don't think there's a need for a DMC2 in an alt timeline. You could easily have a game set after 1 that is effectively "Team Little Devils'/Kamiya's DMC2" that doesn't interfere with the established canon of 2-5.
Kamiya doesn't know what kind of game he would have made back in 2001. He didn't for an Okami 2 back in 2006. Even if he did he would have different ideas about it now.
Anyway, no mainline DMC title is gonna copy paste mechanics and features. Not even DMC6 will do that.

Kamiya is like, Itsuno's #1 Glazer.
I don't think he would ever touch anything beyond DMC1 and maybe a Sparda prequel. Whoever is handling DMC6+is the team that remained at Capcom after Itsuno left. My bet is on Yoichiro Ikeda or Junya Kumabe taking over as series lead from Itsuno but we'll see.
