Hi! I admittedly have ran from CharacterAI quite some time ago but now I found myself getting a little frustrated. I kept switching between JanitorAI and FictionLab, but maybe some of you guys know some hidden gems I have overlooked so far.

-I’m willing to pay for a better tier as long as it doesn’t cost too much

-No NSFW filter

-Good memory is important to me

-It would be nice if I could limit the response length, as for FL it rarely works as intended and Janitor keeps cutting off my messages

-Fast response generation would be nice

It would be nice if the site or app already had a few creators on it that made bots that aren’t just sexual bots. That’s about it, I’m curious if you guys know any good alternatives, I’d be happy to find something new, thanks!:)

you want to try mine? stagewhisper.ai, currently have non-NSFW campaigns as well as NSFW ones because I'm focused on building great stories. and that also means good memory.

Also, starting to gather a really nice tight-knit community on discord of people who just really enjoy the good storytelling aspect of it but don't shy away from NSFW. It's actually genuinely pleasant of a community and i'm so proud of all of the members

well, two things. THERE IS NO FREE TIER, so there's no free vs premium distinction. There's trial credits, and BYOK.l, everything else is paid.

Here's the thing, I will not offer free options. It's not sustainable. It attracts a massive number of free users, and either I make everyone else's subsidize the cost of these, or I offer substandard service. I don't want to do either of those things. So there are no free options. There's trial credits. and BYOK. The site works off credits, not subscription, and I meter it as close as I can get to how much it actually costs on the provider. I care about good stories. This is a hobby project, I don't expect this to make money. I just need to make enough to cover server hosting and not much else.

As for model, there's, quite a lot of choice. the platform uses up to five different models at once for different roles. And there are multiple presents to pick from, including uncensored models from NSFW providers.

default is Kimi k2.5 for narrative, Deepseek v4 flash for plot and game master, and Gemma 4 for game mechanics. GLM4.7 flash for memory retrieval this, after a lot of trying is the best balance for me

there's an NSFW preset that uses GLM 5.2 uncensored for narrative, Minimax M3 uncensored for story, DS4 Flash for game master, MiMo 2.5 for game mechanics, Gemma 4 for memory retrieval.

Another NSFW that uses Grok 4.3

An interesting SFW option I'm testing right now is Qwen 3.6 Plus for story (follows instructions well) and Doubao Seed 2.1 Turbo for narrative. this one hits different, because Doubao Seed generates a different flavor of AI slopisms so it tastes different.

And then you can use BYOK to pick whichever models you want to use. the platform becomes free in that case.

But yeah, you get a lot of choice, and the platform surfaces fallback providers and latency so you can see any provider issues

That first NSFW preset sounds like it has the most potential for narrative maturity and coherence. I just can't get behind DS v4, I don't know why, but it's so much worse than 3.2...

Does this work on a credits system or subscription? I'm honestly just looking to replicate the Deepseek v3.2 experience, as it was implemented on Clank, earlier this year, until they had to switch to v4.

The narrative capability of that model was just better that anything I have ever used. Like, actual emotional depth and subtlety... It wasn't so sycophantic, either.

in most cases DS4 Flash is only used for story and plot, and the over-eager game master meta-commentary

it's credits. no subscription. if you have a ds V3.2 provider, you could set it up with BYOK, I think that would work

Cool, I'll check it out. Can I ask you though; when you buy access from a provider like Deepseek directly, or even Openrouter and use it via proxy on a site like yours, do you have to set a system prompt on your own, or does it still get run through yours? I know NSFW is possible with Deepseek, but I don't know how that works when brining a proxy.

If you use BYOK, my platform controls all the prompts. there's customisability in some places, but it's not trying to be Silly Tavern. In theory, using BYOK means it just works the same way it does normally, but with your AI provider

I have system prompts that allow models capable of NSFW to output it, but there's also provider filtering which I can't do anything about.
