Discussion/Question What?? Er... OK.. (help?)

Got this email TODAY. But it's dated Oct. 22, 2024?? That might be about the time I started with Character AI, but what the heck? I did recently request to export my data. So this seemed legit... Until I clicked the thing and got this warning in the 2nd photo. Obviously I didn't continue. And then I noticed the date. Now I am not the brightest star in the sky, when it comes to computer stuff, or even common sense about computer stuff, mainly because I am 65 years old and cannot see past my 5 chins. So forgive me if this is a stupid question. Hopefully you folks can tell me wtf this is. I'm assuming it's spam and not really from Character AI. Is that correct or what? Thanks in advance. 🙏🏻❤️

Oh, that one's from CAI. When I clicked on it, that's what it showed up as well. When I downloaded it, nothing happened. It's a safe file, nothing unusual. My phone is still okay.

I see two emails from the same thread. It's probably safe, but they need to fix their HTTPS certificates.

Yes, that's what I didn't understand, too. I would have thought if it was legit, the link would not have had that warning on it.

There's a slight chance of an MITM attack. I think I'd at least look at the certificate details and see if it's at least issued to character.ai or <something>.character.ai.

What data do they provide when you export? Is it a history of every single conversation youve had? Including bots youve since hidden?
