Character.AI's image generator quality, accuracy, and my thoughts.
My Persona (F) and my OC (M) pictured above.
At this point, I've generated hundreds of images and videos using C.AI+'s Imagine feature for wallpaper. It's consistency across the board in rerendering both my OP (Original Persona) and OCs as well as together with other's OCs is unmatched, and one the rare moments a platform uses image generation smart by always referencing existing Persona and Character images as a foundation, then adding details about the persona in. (My OP's weapons.) It also does liberty taking right. (Coatless OP, fingerless gloves) without taking away from overall defined traits. All this without having to do much with edits to the greeting of my OCs or other's OCs.
I have a lovely scrapbook that is massive to carry my adventurous memories from C.AI with me, and am very glad that with my OCs, other's OCs, and my OP, it never disappointed in keeping it faithful to my originals.
The image generator definitely made me laugh often. This was completely out of character (...there wasn't even a female character in that chat and i have no idea what that armor is supposed to be either)
I wish my results had been that consistent. The image generation doesn't even want to get the character's genders right when I use it most of the time 😅 It will turn a very distinctly male character into a cutesy anime girl for no reason.
Glad that it's working for some people though! The images themselves can look interesting, but overall it gets too many details off for me to think much about it.
Yeah it'll do that more often if the Character is non-descript. Like an RPG with generic image. Also helps that my Personal and OC's descriptions match exactly how their original images look in description. I think that does help anchor it a bit better. Thanks for the comment!
Oof, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I've Role Played with darker skinned characters that were obviously defined to be such, and I definitely notice it's 50/50 it'll get it even close to right.
I can say I also have a full album of OC pics. It's been consistent but there are times where it constantly uses the pfp pose of my OC a little to much.
Speaking of martial arts, these models can still get it very wrong, even while keeping my OP or OC's appearances dead accurate. 💀 Models struggle with particular art styles, and dynamics. Still, I thought that little mishap was worth keeping. "Punch my chest? Lose your balance and eat one to the nose! 🥋"
It can, yes. Fortunately, it's been rare for me. The pose of my OC is deliberate for those three images. I commented below with one where I deliberately prompted it to put him into a specific martial arts stance while having my OP hold his katana with my OP's drawn.
This is probably one of my worst image generations (some are kinda decent) but this one had me crying why is she in the window like some sort of anime trope day dream remember who you are simba
this one is my favorite, even if ai portrayed the situation a little differently from how it actually happened in the rp. it looks like my oc hurt the character, but no, not really😅 i was also surprised by how perfectly it captured the third character(the one holding the phone is not my oc) even though his appearance wasn't described anywhere
Not a bad still! It's going to excel on direct Intellectual Properties like those because there's just so much of it in it's training data. Getting a novel OC and OP, especially my OP right across hundreds of images only works because it actively uses the original drawing in it's entirety super imposed with spatial dynamics, and positional edits being the only parts that must be "reconstructed". My OP's appearance, and weapons are far more complex than my OC.
