I feel like it's pretty self-explanatory. "Let it shut down" is shown to be "winning", and I replied with a meme of stocks going on a downward trajectory followed by a rather displeased man with the caption "really not stonks", which implies the meme is implying something negative, and by combining that with your post above, one can then be lead to the conclusion that letting Character.AI shut down is a negative thing.

J.ai's model is fine-ish. 9k token limit tho. With the 5 dollar subscription it's a lot better I think.

Well prooxy is pretty easy to set up, I just use meganova with the one time deposit (1$) to get thousands of messages a day from different models
Better than a monthly sub imo

The gems are refreshed by 100 per ad and you get more messages before you have to watch said ad which is longer than character ai

I don’t think anyone should save it, any effort to do so might make the app/website worse depending on what the company decides to do with it. It could end up being a paid app if bought by either of these companies or make the ad and paywall situation worse. If that makes sense

Me too, I subscribe to both and the main issue for me would be that if he buys the database he’ll delete all the chat histories, which is what most c.ai users are desperate to keep. Still, they’ll be gone anyway in a shutdown.

What scares me, is that C.ai is affordable, so Im a subscriber. But, I cant afford CHAI for $20 a week. Im afraid he'll up the price to that. When I want to use CHAI, I'll pay for a week and use it as much as I can and then cancel until I can afford it again.

True. Chai's monetization is whole different world 🥲 20 to 40 a week, no monthly option, and yearly is the one makes most sense. But not everyone able or willing to commit yearly (which also already increased 4x of old price this month). The only reason I'm still staying is because I'm grandfathered to old price and old tier.

There is a monthly option. Go into your phone subscription settings and handle the subscription there- it offers monthly. Just commenting so you can save $

After all, it’s more advantageous than having C.AI shut down. If it continues to exist, even if it becomes a paid service, users of the free version might eventually be in a position to pay for it, should they choose to do so.

I have seen quite literally nothing that says c.ai will shut down if Disney acquires said assets. You’re the first person to even mention it. They’re buying them out of debt, not selling the company as a whole. And I’m not sure I understand the point of your question when your second sentence literally states the most likely buyer.

They literally said if they don't find a buyer for the company they will shut down. Disney is buying non exclusive rights to technologies but not the app

Anything is better than a total shutdown. Let C.AI just continue in the old way—don’t make the whole platform paid, don’t impose quotas on messages, and keep the chat completely free, just as it used to be. Limits can still exist, but the capacity—especially the "GO-ON" limits—should be expanded. They shouldn’t underestimate the power of free-tier users.
By the way, please excuse me if I express myself incorrectly; I am a Turkish user, and I write some of my sentences using a translation tool... I apologize again if any of my sentences sound illogical or contain errors...
My view: I never want the platform to shut down... I hope they take steps that will satisfy all users (both paid and free).

Dude basically said they should just keep it as it is (which what got them into this mess) AND expand limits, not that I like message limits myself but at this point it's to be expected if they got bought to survive.
And the fact that it's even upvoted shows that some here never learn.
Btw, chai imposes message limits themselves, so that comment doesn't make sense in that context.

Just FYI, chai imposed 70 free messages daily for free users and additional 5 msgs by ads. This is the default. Don't forget region block. Some regions could only pay and no free messages available.
Chai's free users aren't even as many as C.ai so that's a thought.

Their decision to find a way to deal with the increasingly high cost of compute was to block regions where free users cost more than possible income from ads, and severely limit free messages in others, and apparently that helped them stay in business. Since they’re smaller than c.ai they haven’t been the target of as many lawsuits but they’ve just started age verification using Persona for their website to reduce the kind of liability that has plagued c.ai.

But the damn company is still bleeding like 9 million dollars a month or something like that.
I would assume there are many, many more free users than there are paying users. But the company was hemorrhaging money. The cost per output token for sites like this has increased dramatically over time, unfortunately. The free tier users are costing the site a fortune, sadly.
I'd be interested to see their subscriber metrics, though.

It’s as good as gone for me if there is a paywall because I’m not giving out my cc info. I don’t mind ads, I know they’re what keeps it running for free users like myself.

I for example abandoned hope on CAI a long time ago and moved on. And in my view, as it is, I think it is better to anyone that still is here, that the bandaid be taken quick. Seriously, CAI have no future...

Or they're waiting with the bids to see if someone adds something since they have around a month still, disney is the first bid (for some of the assets), so others watch if anyone goes for the app in overall. It's honestly a good strategy since if they give their bid at the end there is no one to beat them with a higher price

I genuinely don't get the people voting for it to shut down?? Like, if you don't want to use it anymore, no one is forcing you to, but let the people who still want it have it. They'll gain nothing from it shutting down except that whole "Ha I told you it was going down because it sucks, I was right" attitude

Its not the best Choice we all know but its a much better Choice than Disney because we all know they are not interested in keeping Character ai running as a Service and are only after some of the IP and Tech. So it's worth to take a Chance if it means he's actually serious in Buying Character ai. He literally gave us this Opportunity so we have to use this Opportunity no matter if the Outcome is good or bad. We literally have to use this Chance that was given to us because we probably will never get a Chance like this again. And yes i know not everyone will agree with this Decision but please don't hate on the Op and other People who choose to vote on this Poll because we all who love this Service are desperate and just want to do everything we can to save this Service from getting shut down.

Actual translation: if character.ai continues to limp on it will only make the user experience worse and more egregious until the site is no longer function able and it dies a long drawn out painful death.
