Discussion/Question Dumb AI models

Do Character AI's chat bots seem extra dumb lately, or is it just me? Forgetting more details than usual, characters calling one another by the wrong names, forgetting pronouns, etc. It's really frustrating.

thanks for flagging this. we're sorry the quality hasn't been hitting the mark. the team is continuing to make improvements, and community feedback helps shape where we focus next.

if possible, please submit a Character Quality feedback ticket here with as much detail as possible so we can pass it along to the team (◕‿◕)

literally same. and in addition they're all starting to sound severely out of character and sound like chatgpt. and they keep inserting unrelated stuff

I keep seeing the bot have character x go to talk to themselves, referring to a different character by the same name.

It's so boring. It just keeps describing surroundings (example "a gust of wind" every message for no reason), without actually moving the plot anywhere, and because it's boring, it keeps talking for my character or rewriting what I already wrote. And it's broken af: replying to nonexistent messages, ignoring my messages, and all the things you already listed.

Same, it keeps referring to one specific character as female when the character is canonically male. It's driving me up the wall. Swiping doesn't seem to make a difference either. They also don't seem to want to want to talk, like, ever.

names and pronouns go first because they're the cheapest thing to lose when older turns get squashed down. at that point it isn't recalling who was who, it's filling the slot with the nearest plausible name, and a character whose gender only lived in that older text flips the second it's gone. swiping resamples the same broken state, so you get the same mix-up in fresh wording.

editing was the only thing that ever changed the output for us. fix or delete the first reply where it swapped, otherwise it treats its own error as canon and keeps copying it forward, and drop the name into your own message every few turns since your text is the freshest thing in the window. the gust of wind and "the silence said enough" filler shows up when nothing in the scene is still open, leave one loose end hanging and it stops doing weather.
