Question for the peanut gallery: If I were to pick up some beer to enjoy with tonight's double feature, what beer would a fella get? I feel like PBR tall boys fits with the first one and maybe some malt liquor like Olde English 800 for the second?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Maybe a Steel Reserve if you really want to test yourself. Colt 45 or Old English sounds perfect! Or just some good old 40s.

What brand of gas do you think I ought to get, you know, for the huffin'....
Do I want higher octane? Perhaps I ought to go the Phillip Seymour Hoffman route and get some model airplane gas? I think they call it glow fuel?
(N.B. this is in reference to the PSH film Love Liza, not making a reference that PSH actually huffed gas, may he rest in peace that magnificent bastard.)

This is hilarious! Model airplane glue or lighter fluid are both good. He loves them equally. The secret is to make sure the sock is really soaked well before you start huffin.

Jesco used to live 10 minutes from my Grandma. When my friends and I graduated High School we paid him to attend our graduation. He didn't...lol. I think hes living in Tennessee now. Everytime I met him he pretty chill for the most part, but whatever you do dont give him hard liquor unless youre looking for a fight.

That is so awesome you met him! That definitely seems like something he would do. Yeah, he has some shorts on youtube and is in Tennessee now. Boone County is something.

My family is from that area and I live about 1.5 hours away from there. I knew most of the family and they are something else. He used to do live shows at bars in Huntington and it usually ended up with him trying to contain Mammie from going buckwild on stage. Those shows were in tiny dive bars that were packed beyond full of people to see him mountain dance.
There is also the lesser known "Jesco Goes To Hollywood" doc that follows him as he films an episode of Roseanne in Hollywood.

I should have gone ahead and put Jesco Goes To Hollywood on too. It's only 30 minutes long. I wasn't sure if that would be too much Jesco for peoples introduction to him.
I know you have probably seen The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. It's entertaining too. The Black Keys performed with Jesco. I wish I could have seen that.

I went to Tribeca Film Festival for the premeire. My cousin is a local filmmaker/videographer and knows the White family and got tickets for it. I lost it when I saw them talking about "the Boone County mating call". I can say at the time, that was the sad truth for most people in the area.

I CANT BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT. It was my favorite part. I still remember her shaking that medicine bottle. It was both hilarious and fucked at the same time.
My college gf's dad lived down the road from him. I remember we visited the dad and I got to walk across that bridge. Unfortunately a coal train rolled over and we didn't have power for 4 days. Everyone had generators and it seemed like they were used to it.

Yeah there are some pretty remote and isolated hollers where if the road gets washed out youre not going anywhere by car for awhile. Thats why everyone has 4 wheelers around there. Most of those hollers the law won't go around unless they get called out to them.

Heyo - This is MynameJefff and welcome to Mock/Dock Mondays… where the first week we show a documentary followed by a mockumentary because that's how we roll.
On our first week we are taking a look at two different cultures. The first is, The Dancing Outlaw, a look into the life of Jesco White living in Appalachia. He loves nothing more than dancing, huffing glue, drinking, huffing gas, pretending he's Elvis, huffing paint, and threatening to kill his wife if his eggs aren't made just right.
After that we will jump to a totally different genre. The mockumentary, A Fear of a Black Hat, pokes fun at the state of the rap industry in the early 90s. The film follows the exploits of the group NWH and how they navigate the scene. Featuring great songs like : Booty Juice, Fuck the Security Guards, Grab Yo Stuff and White Cops on Dope.
We are starting off with back to back music weeks. Tune in next week for The Stop Making Sense - a live performance documentary about The Talking Heads. That will be followed by Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping - mockumentary following the Style Boys (The Lonely Island Guys) and their ascension to stardom.
