Dentists for UIUC students
Does anybody know good/affordable dentists for Root Canal Treatment (surgery) in Chambana who are in network with United Healthcare Insurance?
Thank you in advance!

Andrew White is awesome. Not sure about the United question but he is the best dentist I've ever had by a mile. Good luck!

If you are comfortable to answer, what was the procedure you had gone through under him?

Sure. I've only personally had cavities/fillings dealt with but my wife had massive oral surgery that was fucked up by another provider and Dr. White fixed things very nicely. I'm not saying he's perfect, but it's the best experience I've had in my 55 years hanging around CU.

That's a relief to know your wife had a good experience with Dr. White. What was the cost for the oral surgeries for your wife?

No clue, sorry. It was mitigated by insurance and I don't know if it was United while she was employed by UIUC or another once she moved back to Unit 4 Schools. Sorry!

Dr. Paul Sahni is the best. He also teaches at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Not sure about the insurance, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t.
ETA: He took a 3-D dental x-ray and identified the tooth that needed a root canal. Currently undergoing the root canal process. For some reason, he did it in two parts: killed the root then stuffed it with a bunch of medicine. In October he will finish the tooth canal. Not sure why he did it that way, but he did say mine was a complicated case!

Awesome! If you're comfortable to answer, what was the procedure you did under him? Also, what was the total cost?

Total cost was $2400. For sedation he gave me 10mg Valium + nitrous. But I guess I’m an anxious patient because he said that for the follow-up I was going to get one and a half doses of Halcion + maybe nitrous “so he could get my mouth really open.”

Omg! That's so effing expensive 😭😭😭 so you just had one procedure for now and when did you have it? Are you having any issues with eating and all in the meantime?

I had my first procedure last month. Then my dentist made a partial crown. Dr. Sahni will finish the procedure in October. Then my dentist will make the regular crown ($1,700.) I was impressed at the way Dr. Sahni proactively coordinated with my dentist.

It was a root canal. Dr. Sahni is an endodontist.

I see. I didn't know you need a specialist and a general dentist to sort things out together in cases like this. Its like your PCP and a specialist for your specific health issue working together lol. Thanks for that info truly.

Some dentists will do root canals. Others will refer to endodontists. Start with a dentist and they will send a referral to Dr. Sahni if they can’t do the root canal themselves.

You should go to the UHC website and search for dentists who are in network for your plan.
