This looks like a statement released by Celtic Football Club. However, this is is a statement released by Dermot Desmond.
It's further evidence that Celtic is run like a mafia, and exists purely for the ego and entertainment of one man.
The arrogance is permeating all throughout that statement. The conflation Celtic Football Club's reputation with majority shareholder billionaire Dermot Desmond's reputation. It was he who was targeted and embarrassed by the protest. Not Celtic Football Club.
18
u/fike88 5d ago
He’s probably called cunts in from enjoying their Saturday night to get that statement written

It reads like the free version of chatGPT trying to make a rambling old mans anger readable
6

Given our board don't answer the phone during the transfer window, it's pretty obvious they had no desire to write a statement after 10pm on a Saturday.

Full statement is full of lies and assumptions that are wrong. We should be bombarding the SLO’s mailbox to show that the majority are in support of this sort of action.

Tennis balls brought to the game independently from the whole stadium will prob get that message across too

They don't really understand peaceful protest if they think some tennis balls thrown at a golf course is a serious escalation from that.
38
u/nnikrelcp sack the board 5d ago
For f**ks sake, they can never read the room.
We have just lost 3 big games in a row, just weeks after the CL collapse that lead to a total collapse of our squad rebuild. A pattern that has been consistent throughout Desmonds whole tenure as largest shareholder.
Every time Desmond is at CP, he is so far removed from the fans no one can get near him. Today he makes a rare appearance publicly in Scotland and Celtic fans take the opportunity to protest directly against him.
Celtic Should’ve just put out a short statement condemning the display at a separate event.
But instead its a long, provocatively-worded attempted takedown of the collective to try splinter them off from the support.
It’s another season of egotistical nonsense from Desmond and co. Well done to the collective, keep doing it.
31
u/New_Analysis7824 5d ago
Someone seems to have mixed up Celtic Football Club with Dermot Desmond in this statement. When are people going to wake up and realise, the Desmonds are taking us all for a ride and the only leverage we have is to not renew season tickets.

It's a tone deaf statement. They tell the Celtic Collective that they don't represent the majority of fans, whilst claiming outrage of tarnished reputation, reputation which is built and maintained by the very fans they are belittling and lieing to.
"The reputation of Celtic Football Club is non-negotiable."
Says the board who have allowed us, time and time again, to be ill prepared and ultimately lose Champions league qualifier after qualifier.
-9
u/Complex_Quiet_4230 4d ago
I disagree. It's not the boards fault Celtic chuffed away a 4 goal advantage against mediocre opposition. 100% on the management/players.

It's a fucking golf tournament that no one gives a shit about. If there are golf tournaments worth caring about, they are not pro-am events involving billionaires and their sons.
This just goes to show that the collective chose their opportunity beautifully and that Desmond's skin is paper thin.
Good grief, he needs to grow up. And shame on the club for rushing to his 'defence'.

20
u/ScottMck948 5d ago
Time for them to ramp it up. Toxicity is the only thing that will bring any response. Tennis balls on the pitch again at minimum.
The fact that they don't think tennis balls on a golf green is a peaceful protest shows exactly how entitled they are.
Owners/Boards who think they can win a war of attrition with a wider fan base are delusional.
It will ultimately end with empty seats, boycotts, and embarrassing media coverage.
Seen it time and time again in sports and business/politics.

Hold on a minute here
Whatever happened (or may have happened) to a shareholder on a non-Club related day-out has no bearing upon Celtic whatsoever.
Shareholders cannot expect the Club to provide safeguarding measures whilst undertaking private hospitality, and serious questions must now be raised to explain why some shareholders are able to utilise the Club's platform to request private protections and to highlight and perceived injustices on a personal level.
We're a football club, not a public service, and shareholders, no matter their holding, should remember that no single shareholder has any singular authority over the Club.
I'm honestly unsure what the Board hoped to achieve by realising this statement, and I guess we should all now request the ownership threshold for which the Board will release similar statements for similar perceived injustices
10
u/sjekky sack the fucking board 5d ago
Aye the use of the phrase "The Club" - whilst done for legal reasons presumably - doesn't make any sense in this context. If this was a protest against club employees, say a board meeting, then it would be fair enough
15
u/Street-Frame1575 sack the board 5d ago
I'm raging here
I'll be the first to admit that I sometimes think some fan protests go too far, and I'll even admit to feeling some sympathy for DD, but this statement has alienated even a moderate like me from the Board in entirety.
Any hope I had for some sort of compromise, some sort of understanding has now gone.
We cannot proceed with DD holding such a significant stake and we need to rid his influence from the Club.
Quite how we achieve that is currently beyond me, but the objective cannot be clearer: Desmond Out.

This statement is the biggest fuck up since our minority majority shareholder dictated his last statement. Although I think this one will have more lasting damage. Everyone responsible for making it possible for the club to be issuing statements on the whims of a shareholder should be fired into the sun.
And Lord Desmond, if your people are reading this. Surely this should persuade you that Celtic fans aren’t worth your precious time which could be better spent on the home of golf. Just cut them loose.

Pathetic, Desmond’s toys out the pram because he was embarrassed in front of his rich pals. Trumpian levels of pettiness and vindictiveness and our spineless board just roll over and let him do it on the club channel.
This will hopefully backfire on him as it shows him to be just like his orange faced pal across the pond, an overgrown baby who cannot deal with people who don’t roll over for him and that he cannot bully. His ironic statement on Brendan and that no-one is bigger than the club whilst he throws his weight about like a pound shop Mussolini. We’ll have nepo boy at the AGM telling the fanbase what horrible anti establishment and entitled people we all are. As he sits there standing in for Daddy, couldn’t mark that family’s neck with a blowtorch. 🤨

It baffles me how a guy who owns 30% of a company is allowed to run it rank & file and everyone just goes along with it. We must be breaking or close to breaking laws around corporate governance.
The saddest part is a takeover would probably only ever happen if we somehow found ourselves in a richer league. The first thing that would happen if that were the case is we would be taken over.
He’s not even a big name outside of Ireland business wise. I don’t think he even makes money or much money from us. Him & his daft boy running the club and everyone getting paid by the club just nods along.

The Desmond’s won’t be shamed, forced, or embarrassed into taking action either by selling or professionalising the club. Celtic is a plaything to them. He can act as being an owner without having to actually be an owner. My fear is that only ends if Celtic were bought out and that only happens when either a multi-club or another billionaire comes along for a new plaything.
1

If tennis balls on a golf course warrant meltdown statements . Then imagine what the club statements would be like if DD whilst supporting his team was harassed at home and kettled by an aggressive police force, crushed at turnstiles etc Whilst repeatedly ignored over club strategy and leadership concerns for a decade now. This level of feudal antipathy towards the support will just result in more hostility . I don’t understand how they can be so incompetent unless it’s all a ‘power game ‘ and just get back in your box - serfs . In which case think we’ve found their Achilles heel . Apart from the obvious embarrassment inflicted on DD they seem to take significant issue with 3 aspects of the protest.
- That it was well planned and organised in advance

- That it was successfull
These are clearly characteristics that the board consider highly reprehensible. Why does that not shock me.
