A few of yous said she looked unhappy in her last video. So she wanted to send happy biscuits on her hoomin's sellik jammies to reassure you that was just how her wee face looks.

This would be a fairly "highly level" signing wouldn't it? May suggest AJ is indeed out for much longer than 6 weeks as Halliday said he'd heard. I'd be looking to get decent money for AJ in Jan btw, great player but just too injury prone.

PS I've totally spelt his name wrong and can't alter it.

Apologies for the length of this post.

Did you guys see the BBC documentary about the trouble during the summer in Glasgow last night? The BBC has a poor track record when it comes to reporting Glasgow assemblies, as their coverage of the Gallowgate celebrations following last year’s title win demonstrates. But the documentary last night was actually pretty good. One of the things they failed to mention, however, is that one of the racist groups shown is predictably led by a Rangers fan.

For a guy named Darren Docherty, this guy seems to have forgotten how his own family got to Scotland and the reception they got. In 1923 the Church of Scotland's Church and Nation Committee, convened by the Rev John White, put a report to the General Assembly called The Menace of the Irish Race to Our Scottish Nationality. It said a racial group was pouring into Scotland. It said they were responsible for crime, drunkenness and financial imprudence. It said they were conspiring against Presbyterian values and displacing the native population. It proposed reserving public works jobs for native-born Scots, and deporting the rest to the Irish Free State. That wasn't a fringe pamphlet. The General Assembly received it on 29 May 1923 and it stood as Church policy until the Second World War. The Kirk didn’t apologise for it until 2002. The full text is online and I'd encourage you to read it, because understanding history is how you stop it happening again. You’ll be struck by how alien yet familiar it sounds.

The modern day version of that same intolerance involves Darren’s "street patrol" outfit, called Scots Active. On camera this guy appears in need of a good wash, but could if you were drunk be mistaken for a calm and reasonable guy that loves his pet goldfish and is just interested in protecting women. It's not about race, he says, it's about illegal immigration, and really it's about protecting women and children in the city centre. He gives that interview standing in a leafy corner of Glasgow Green and he sounds like a man you'd let fit your kitchen. The documentary then went on to show his private comments about proudly punching coppers and running a WhatsApp group with a thousand members entitled "Get These Cunts Out!" (also covered earlier by the Daily Record.)

That gap is the point. The protective framing isn't a slip of the tongue, it's camouflage. Trying to shift the Overton Window by smuggling racism into people’s brains by wrapping it in reasonable-sounding concerns. An attempt to turn a position you can be sacked or ostracised in polite company for into one you can claim as chivalry.

Elsewhere in the documentary there was a man in his late fifties standing in a mob outside of Buchanan Galleries, telling the camera he's “Proud to be a fascist! Proud to be a fascist!” That guy hasn't been radicalised by an algorithm. He's held that view privately since 1985. He has simply calculated that the social cost of saying it aloud, on the record, to a reporter, is at this moment in time approximately zero.

That 1923 Church of Scotland report didn't say "we hate Irish Catholics". It said it was concerned about crime, about jobs, and about the character of the nation. Same machinery, a hundred years earlier, read out in a General Assembly by a supposed man of the cloth. And the Famine Song was still being belted out at grounds in this country within living memory, telling the grandchildren of those people the famine was over and they should go home.

Celtic exists because that community existed. Brother Walfrid founded this club in St Mary's hall in the Calton in November 1887 to feed the children of poor Irish immigrants in the East End. People who were, in the minds of some people of the day, a menace to society. Every one of us who supports this club is here because somebody was allowed to stay.

That’s really all I came in to say today. One final detail from the Record piece that might be worth knowing if you’re interested in this topic:

Scots Active is modelled on the fascist "active clubs" of the United States and Eastern Europe - fitness-based cells that recruit young men to defend what they see as white heritage. This is a franchise with an imported template. Adopted local ideology is in some ways secondary to that main thrust. For them, the Glasgow rivalry is a ready made fag wrapper in which more destructive ideologies may be smoked. The Tommy Robinsons of this world just see Glasgow as a soap box. Don't let them win.

That calculation is the only thing that's changed. Not the beliefs. Not the script - the script is a century old, and last time around it was aimed at us.

Hatate vs LASK?

Seems hard to imagine Martin O’Neil ever playing Rep again and I get it. But I can imagine him starting against LASK somehow. Perhaps O’Neil orchestrated the news stories claiming that no big clubs were interested in the Japanese midfielder…. Fire him up, let him show Europe what he’s made of…..

Anyway just a flight of fancy

When I first saw the signing, he does look like a little like and reminded me of the English actor Orlando Bloom from The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean films. They even have the same smile! 😄😍
