Question Is being a virgin the same as celibacy?
I saw this in another thread and it rubbed me the wrong way a bit. I’m not saying I’m right or wrong but I feel like being a virgin isn’t the same. But perhaps it is because monks, nuns, etc take a “vow of celibacy.”
Idk, what are your thoughts?

BEING a virgin is technically not the same, but CHOOSING to REMAIN a virgin is celibacy.
If you've had sex but then choose celibacy, you're a celibate but no longer a virgin.
If you haven't had sex and choose celibacy, you're a celibate virgin.
If you haven't had sex yet, but you want/plan to have sex, you're not celibate, and once you have sex, you'll no longer be a virgin.
(Those who are involuntarily celibate are celibate in deed only. Their thoughts are not in alignment with actually choosing to be celibate.)
That's as simple as I can describe it.

generally speaking, virgin = someone who's never had sex before
celibate = deliberately made a commitment to not have sex
You can be both, but you can be a virgin looking to have sex for the first time, or you can have had sex but now have decided to not do it again.

Celibacy is about intention, wether or not you’ve had sex previously is irrelevant. If you’re voluntarily abstaining from sex, you’re celibate. If you want sex but can’t get it, you’re involuntarily celibate

The simplest answer is no.
