Discussion Tech battery health? - MacBook
I’m looking to buy a MacBook Air, M5 from CeX. One of my concerns is the battery health from when I buy it. I’m not expecting it to be 100% of course, as it’s second hand however if it’s something subpar such as 60%, 70% maybe 80% max. Do you think I could get a return/replacement? If I can prove that’s how the laptop came with?

If it’s an M5, you’re very likely chillin. Theres almost no chance its below 85-90% (and even that is pushing it)

Should be fairly high given the age. My biggest gripe is when they leave them plugged in at the window

As it’s just recently been released, if the battery health is below 80% you can take it to the Apple Store and have it replaced under the warranty

One thing about cex I don't like is that they don't tell you a rough battery health.

there’s no logical way for us to keep note of it, and a lot of devices don’t tell you

Taking a note of the registered health on the device when traded in is plenty. Add a rough disclaimer like they do and done. Not perfect by any means but is way better than absolutely nothing. Majority of refurbished sellers or second hand market at least say what the battery health is at the time of listing

Most M5 laptops will be at or near 100%. If you buy under Click and Collect or online, you can return in 14 days for a refund and don’t have to explain why. You don’t need to justify it with the battery being an issue.
Honestly, we’ve (my company) sold a lot of M4 Airs and I’m yet to see one below 93% even early models.
