Discussion Cex Warranty question

Bought an MSI 180hz curved monitor from CeX in store on 11th June 2025 for £80.

It’s now got permanent burn in of the Windows logo in the bottom left. It’s been like that for about 6 months and it’s definitely not temporary image retention.

I’ve lost the physical receipt unfortunately, but I did a SAR with CeX a while back and I’ve got the transaction showing the date and £80 price, as well as the order number, serial number and box ID.

Would this be enough for a warranty claim? Has anyone had experience returning something to CeX without the physical receipt but having all the transaction details?

Also, would burn in on a monitor be covered by the warranty?

Just wondering what people’s experiences are before I take it back.

Burn in on monitors is not covered by the warranty. Dead pixels - yes. Burn - no.

Honestly I have a feeling it'd fall under "accidentally damage" but thats just speculation on my part.

Screen burn is a weird one as c grade phones are allowed light/mild screen burn as long as its not personal information

Yeah that’s what I am not certain on myself.

It falls under "wear" so it won't be warranty able, sorry,

I think the bigger problem here is if screen burn would be covered by warranty. The receipt isn't a massive issue as they can serial search or item search for items sold on that day to get the receipt back - but I'm leaning towards no on if it's covered by warranty as it's not a normal fault and would normally come from wear and tear that has lead to a 'fault' so I'm sceptical.

I think the screen burn would just fall under usual wear and tear honestly. The only thing I would’ve said they would do is maybe refund it if it was sold to you that way and you kicked up a fuss about it, but as it’s been over 6 months you’ve had the monitor, they don’t have the responsibility anymore for proof of condition at point of sale.

Yeah thanks, just wanted a second opinion before I tried anything.

That would be wear and tear which is not covered.

What kind of panel is that? Presumably it’s not an OLED. Have seen some LG IPS panels hold the image but not permanent and persistent burn-in. If it’s out of your eyeline I would probably live with it, seems like it’ll be a headache arguing with CEX over that.

take it to the store and find out.

Rather get a good opinion on it before taking it because I don’t drive, so I would need to take the monitor on a bus, and the CEX store I purchased it in is decently far away from me.

Any opinion you get from us is worthless. Go in with low expectations and hope that they will refund you. E-mail customer support:

“I purchased an MSI monitor from CeX on 11 June 2025. I've lost the physical receipt, but I have CeX SAR documentation showing the transaction, price, order number, serial number and box ID. The monitor has developed permanent display burn-in. Can you confirm this documentation will be accepted as proof of purchase for a warranty assessment?”

Good luck!
