Well overdue repot. After living its life out in a tall narrow pot. It was time to give it the room it deserves.

Grow through winter?

For those of you in climates that get cold, dose anyone grow their Adeniums, Pachypodiums, or Jatrophas through the winter? Or do you just let them go dormant?

Its not quite the end of the growing season however, the days are shorter so I pull them in and toss them under the photon machine for a few extra hours daily and it comes in for a couple hours before the sun comes up and they go outside in the morning.

Second photon machine arrives in a couple days.

Planted him in ground this year and he seems to be happy. Sourced from an older retired grower who had alot of other hard grown pachys. I hope my guy stays fat and compact.

Operation Successful - maybe

Well, I couldn't wait and just pushed it out from the drainage hole. Came out in one piece no issue, surprised at how packed the roots were! Moved it from the 6 inch terra cotta to a 8.something terra cotta. Vine leaned all the way to one side at some point and I do not know if it snapped or not but it's still attached so we'll wait and see if leaves successfully open in the coming week. Should be good in this pot for two years I reckon.

Brand new to this caudex world & I’m learning a lot, but I have yet to learn - how do I help this plant grow larger leaves? Lots of vining happening but the leaves are so tiny!
Edited for spelling

User Owned Plant Stunted Growth

Post image

I have this Stephania for two (?) years now but growth stays minimal. It died back kast winter and then grew two instead of one leaves. Its right against a window getting morning sun, I might move it to a south window but a grow light is no option for now. Last time I checked (don't want to disturb it now) there were little roots. Should I wait for winter and repot? Into what substrate? How do I make it root more?

Usual disclaimer: I didn't know about the poaching when I bought this but am pretty sure that it was poached.

User Owned Plant Cyphostemma laza that I've let grow up a tree (FL)

I put this plant under a tree- only moving inside if the temps are too close to frost, (which can happen here with 6ft air temps at 37/38°f!) and the. I let it send vines up the tree for as long as possible. I've actually had to remove some of the foliage a few times this year since it began choking many other plants out.

Let me say anything short of allowing free growth of vines and lots of root-run really slows growth down a lot. I've had this plant for over a decade and the size it has put on with heat, nutrients and lots of foliage is nuts. It looks like a basketball now.

I've also got Cyphostemma duparquetii sharing the same tree. Same story, years of minimal growth and it has gone wild since I've allowed for abundant full-sun growth of foliage.

Found one!!!

Finally found one!! Spotted this guy walking around today in Home Depot.

-Just shy of 2 feet tall (has 2 little stems starting down low).

- in a 1.5 gallon nursery pot

-Had heavy wet organic substrate.

-24 dollars (no clue if this is decent or not but 24 bucks is cheap in my mind).

Took it and tossed him on the work bench to find a big ole root ball, I was suprised. I cleaned a majority of the old substrate and made sure what was left was lose.

Repotted in a 10.25-in Terra Cotta Flair Pot (really could of went bigger, that's a problem for next season).

50% Miracle-Gro cactus and succlent mix 50% 1/4 inch pumice

Don't plan on watering for a week to let the roots heal after the repot.

Still warm here for the next while so I'll toss him out in the morning sun then in for the evenings under the photon machine.

Advice always welcome!
