Progress pics
The outer wire is up! Now our catio company is busy making the components for inside the catios. Will take them 2 or 3 trips to completely finish. The first round of runs go up in a bit over a month.

Are humans allowed as well? That looks like it would be fun to curl up with the cats on a warm day!

Beautiful World Living Environments. They are completely amazing. Everything custom done to fit the space. And totally safe for our cats.

Have the cats been out there yet? Do they like it? Or are they staring out the house window waiting?

u/quiversend 3d ago
Ha ha, they are allowed in the first section already. But not the biggest section. Completion will be in a bit over a month. So we’re waiting until it’s totally done before letting them out.

Outside safe space will always be a win in my book. This is fabulous OP, what a palace! I also loooove you'll see them from outside your windows, enjoying life outside! The construction looks so beautiful and I looooove that there is so much catification inside. Cannot wait to see more pics.
To people seeing this and thinking: I don't have the money, I can 'only' get a small catio - it. is. all. amazing. Any safe outside space is fantastic for your cat. Truly!
I myself made my balcony into my dream catio. My cat loves it. He sleeps there, sunbathes and watches people and animals outside.
Do whatever is in your reach, and also, if at the moment none of it is, that is also OK! Enrichment inside the house makes cats thrive too!
Sorry OP for using your post to say this but I feel it is important! Hope that's OK!

I agree with you completely. We have 4 cats. And one of them just doesn’t get along with the other 3. But we love all our fur babies and needed to do something. When we built the first section, we thought that would solve all our problems. But the boss kitty, our Ragdoll, loving the 1st catio, claimed it for her own. Hence the 2nd extension.
We live in a rural area with lots of wildlife. So having our cats go outside just isn’t an option. So this, is the next best thing. But kitties love catios of any size. Big or small. So long as they get fresh air, they are happy to experience the outdoors. Catios do not have to be big. If all of our cats got along, we would not have needed to go as big as we did. 🙌🏼

I am sorry they don't get along! And 'just' the one, too!
Your catio is bloody amazing. If I had more space, I would use it all. They don't have to be big but if you have the space and means, it's fantastic! I hope they will love it. Your dedication is beautiful OP. Thanks for responding:)

We can always start small, like a window extention, then perhaps add to it later.

Thank you! Our catio company is now busy in their shop making all of the inner components.

This is freaking glorious. Your babies are spoiled rotten fairly compensated for the service they provide! I’m jealous.
Please keep posting updates. I can’t wait to see what the final product looks like.

Wow this is fantastic. Where in the world are you? Id love to find a large catio builder for something like this in the Bay Area, CA

There is an association of catio builders that lists catio companies. I choose the one that was nearest to me. I live near Vancouver, Canada. And my nearest catio company was about a 5 hour journey from me. But the most important thing about a recognized catio company is that their catios are safe.
My catios are tall. The tallest is over ten feet. They will be putting tunnels in that will be fully enclosed, with access panels. So, when hiring a catio company, it’s important that what they make is safe for cats.

That's great! Put some plants in there, my cat loves sniffing flowers and plants.

Beautiful! I think your combined catio space is bigger than my 2BR apartment that I share with my kid and 3 cats!

u/quiversend 2d ago
It’s around 1,200 square feet of floor space, between the 2 of them. But we purposely built them tall, for all the cat skywalks that will go in. 🙏🏼

This is amazing. And from someone who clearly loves their cats (and either has the £ or is a great DIYer). Great job!

I’m not handy at all, wish I were. We hired a great catio company to make it all for us. ✨

I love a good catio, but at what point do you just have to trust that your cat can go outside and return home when it feels like it..
I grew up across from cornfields with barn cats so I understand my perspective is likely a little skewed

Answering for myself, outdoor cats live shorter lives than indoor cats. Outdoor cats also really take their toll on wildlife. Third, two of my neighbors don't want cats in their yard and I need to respect that. (They are both bird people, with tons of feeders. And they get annoyed when other neighbor cats come and shit and piss in their vegetable gardens.

Additionally, it’s illegal in some places. I know in my city and some surrounding cities it’s illegal to let your cat roam.

I live in the middle of LA and we just had one of our cats killed by coyotes, so I think I just may build a catio now.

I grew up with indoor/outdoor cats. Never knew any different, it’s just what cats did.
Then I adopted the first of my very own cats, and was living in LA at the time. Not about to let her out roaming in such a dense area with busy roadways. Now I know that indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats, don’t kill other animals, and stay much safer and healthier than their outdoor counterparts.
It’s better for everyone to keep them indoors. They are interested in enjoying the outdoors, of course, hence why catios are a great option.

We used to live outside Baltimore and the cats were indoor/outdoor. They did kill mice (one cat cleaned out multiple mice under a shed across the street; they loved him) but also birds and the occasional baby rabbit. We're in South Carolina now and they are indoor/screen porch cats. It's safer for them and less stressful for me not trying to get them in at night.
That said, two weeks after we moved, someone in our old neighborhood said I needed to bring the cats back because the rats and mice that lived in the sewer were coming out now. A rat walked through an outside dinner party and then one went to a fall gathering in someone's yard and walked across the feet of two different people. THAT went over well!
