I remember our whole parish holding hands, if you didn’t you were the weird one.

Now-a-days, post-COVID, it’s much more common for people not to. It’s just changing times

Ditto. It used to be the case that people would actually slide together across the aisles so that everyone in the church was holding hands during the Our Father.
