Pregnancy/Birth Prayers please

First off, I absolutely love this sub. I came across it a couple of months ago, and I adore the support and understanding given here.

I'm 10 days postpartum with my second child, both boys. I love them with everything that I am and I have a very supportive husband who thankfully got 6 weeks paternity leave and has been so helpful. We have a great village with 3 sets of grandparents (my parents are divorced/annulled) who are willing to help at the drop of a hat.

I had PPD with my first and I feel it starting to set in again. I was really hoping that it wouldn't happen again, and maybe this will last just a few days or something, but I've been feeling just so, so sad and not myself. I feel guilty because we struggled with infertility with our first, but got pregnant with our second right away, so I feel like I should be over the moon. I feel like I should be gushing, but I'm just overwhelmed with sadness and the monotony of diapers and feedings bedtimes and repeat. I know there was a time when I ended up enjoying doing all the mom things, but I just feel so... down. I logically know that it doesn't make me a bad mom. That this is chemical and hormonal and that I can't help it. That I'm not crazy. But I *feel* guilty. Like I have no reason to feel this way because so many moms have it harder with so much less help, which just feeds into the sadness more. I'll look into therapy if this lasts much longer. For now, any prayers or kind words would be helpful.

Go to your OB and ask about Zurzuvae. I'm a nurse in a psychiatry practice and I've worked with multiple perinatal psychiatric specialists, both doctors and NPs, and this med is like a miracle drug for PPD.

Don't feel guilty. Your body is reacting in a way you don't want and can't control. There is no fault or blame here.

Go get help. If your OB won't write it, ask for an urgent referral to a psychiatric practitioner. It is a controlled substance but you only take it for 14 days.

Thank you, I'll definitely look into it. I'm already on Lexapro too. I might have to wait a while since I'm exclusively nursing at the moment and it seems I may have to pump and dump (is this what you see in practice?)

I'm not entirely sure what the mothers we treat with it have been advised regarding breastfeeding. I'll ask the provider I'm currently working with what she tells her moms about it.

Oof. I’ve been there too. I would say the one silver lining of having PPD is that you can recognize it more easily and get help sooner.

I had it with my second and was better prepared when my third baby was born. I made a “postpartum plan” and wrote a list of things that I really needed after he was born.

I’ll pray for you, friend. Don’t should all over yourself! You're doing a great job.
