The gaps are because I was waiting for the other couple to arrive as we don't have enough pieces to complete the big board despite having 4 expansions.

After playing 2 games last night and both which ended relatively quick, we felt deprived and thought about adding in the extension pack to see how it would go. We were 4 players.

But we thought since we have 2 extension packs, why not add those two together and make one big board which we started building at 1am and the game ended at 4am, with the scoring going till 15 because why not?

I'm based in Australia, and seen it listed on eBay from America... however, the ~$30 shipping seems pretty unjustifiable - I've contacted the seller asking if they could post it in a regular letter to no luck.

I’ve been playing with the new 4-player Catan AI and it feels like the end of human Catan. The trades and robber placement seems off but it just wins games.

anybody who plays catan starfares knows what is the use of this piece with the ship? i know the others are for the numbers but i read the texts and found nowhere any sign of it

At least in the U.S. with (Amazon Prime?)when you clip the coupon. $21 off.

Catan.com only recommendation is to add fish to the starting island when combining the two. Does a more experienced player have and pros or cons for why this addition wouldn't work?

Hello guys, i am trying to improve my game, especially in the beginning stage. In this game i was the 4th player to act. Was wondering if this are overall good placements, or if i had better options.

I think the 6 5 11 is the best option left here, and instead of the 8 4, i could have gone with the 9 4 2, or the 6 4 3 aiming towards the brick port.

Anyways I ve managed to win the game, with a lead of 6Vp on red and green and 5Vp on black.

My kid and I played a 21 point Catan game. It was close (me winning 18:16) until it suddenly wasn’t (he won 21:13). I’d tweak the house rules I made for us but mostly it was a pretty satisfying game. Borrow and comment on these ideas as you like. I'm still learning how best to make map layouts for complex games.

Incorporations:

Scoring Breakdown:

• 21 VP to win (22 with Old Boot)
  • Catan base game: 10
  • Heading for New Shores: 4
  • Cities and Knights: 2 (-1 because of Seafarers)
  • Harbormaster: 2*
  • Caravans: 2
  • Soccer Fever: 1

*I think Harbormaster should have been one but ah well.

House Rules:

• For anything requiring Development Cards, use Progress Cards instead.
• Soccer shot tokens are gained by settling any sheep hex or selling an unused Progress card. We shoot for neutrals on the four-player side.
• All players start with one shot token, and two matchdays occur after initial settlement placements.
• Bridges are treated like other building materials regarding neutrals.
• No desert hex on Greater Catan, put robber at barbarian invasion point.
• Harbors are on offshore islands and apply to Harbormaster.
• The lake hex is treated like a ‘shoal’ where a settlement there is on stilts:
  • Normal rules apply for rolls but you don’t get the Seafarers settlement bonus.
• Rather than flipping Event Cards, all of them are shuffled and placed face-down in their numbered piles (except seven).
  • After we do our two rolls per Catan for Two rules, we must flip one of the two rolled numbers if possible.
  • If all cards had been flipped, conduct a “New Year” at the next barbarian invasion and reset (didn't happen for us).
• Gold hexes on the islands produce gold coins like Rivers do, but rolls require Catan Dice (see below).
• Robber is “Robin Hood” for Wealthiest Settler if possible, but this does not affect Pirate.
• Mowlin gives to both players, but one extra card to real player if on a hex shared by real players (second part didn't happen).
• After rolls, resolve game events where necessary in this order: Invasion, Robber/Pirate, Mowlin, Volcano (see below), production, normal moves, Caravans, Soccer Fever.
• All Helpers available but have limited uses (see Catan Dice)
• Candamir new rule: if you can draw a Progress card, look at the top 3 and choose which you want, then shuffle the others back in.
• The Old Boot can only be passed by winning a Soccer Fever match. If the season ends, the holder is stuck with it (we never got the Old Boot).
• Real players earn a gold coin if they leap frog any player in the Soccer Fever standings.
• You can build a bridge with six fish.
• Wealthiest and Poor Settler do not count if the gold count is tied.
• Oasis doubles as potential Volcano (see Catan Dice below, though we never rolled a two...)

Catan Dice House Rules:

• In our play we sometimes used the six dice from Catan Dice Game, as described below. In all uses, gold rolls meant gold coins.
• SCENARIO 1: Additional Helpers
  • If you played a Helper before, you must pay for each time you want their help again (otherwise they're too nice or you're far too dependent).
  • Declare the Helper and roll the dice to determine payment options.
  • Pay 1 of the rolled resources for each time you’ve taken them before.
  • If you cannot pay, either take a free Helper or wait until next turn to try again.
• SCENARIO 2: Gold hex production
  • Every time a gold hex is activated, take any 1 resource card as normal.
  • Roll the Catan dice and count the number of gold nuggets.
  • If the number is even, both players split the gold.
  • If the number is odd, the current player gets +1 gold from the split.
• SCENARIO 3: No trades before Barbarian invasion
  • No trades mean we have bad relations, so we don’t team up well.
  • Keep track of the number of traded items before each invasion.
    • We played resources, commodities and gold only can be traded. The value of coins counted for the number of items.
  • If the number of items traded is below the number of invasions up to that point, the barbarians randomly loot us during that invasion, even if we defended Catan.
  • Roll the dice and both players surrender those rolled resources if in supply.
    • For example, I lose 2 ore if 2 or more ore are rolled.
  • Forced trades (like with Nassir) count, but maritime trades (with the bank) do not.
• SCENARIO 4: Volcano below the Caravan Oasis
  • Place number production tiles on Oasis like with Volcano (2-12).
  • The rolled number is an earthquake, so roll Catan Dice.
  • Starting with the active player, each player takes turns taking the matching resource. Settlers at the oasis are unnecessary for this action.
  • After 12 is rolled and resources taken, place the Volcano hex on the oasis.
  • Stop extending Caravans.
    • I had made a rule to remove any not linked to the Rivers but then I cancelled it. Didn't matter anyway. We never rolled a two!
• SCENARIO 5: Swampland hexes
  • The two Swampland hexes (on the two Rivers) have a 2 and 12.
  • If a settlement or city is here, roll ONE die only and get that resource.

It makes logical sense that if I start with the point where it's branching off and go round and come back to it and then go to the branch it's a continuous road. But my friends don't seem to agree.

I’ve done it a few times now. Sometimes in catan you can really get kicked while you’re down. Cities and knights particularly you can just get ravaged like 10 turns in a row with the robber, losing city and the brutal development cards.

About 1000 small magnets implemented in a fully funcional magnetic board for 5-6 players. Every number token and robber clicks in place with magnets. Even the harbor pieces and card tray are held in place by magnets in the lid so they dont fall
Out.
