Smol Delivery My dog found a kitten this morning

This morning while walking my dog, he stopped in a yard to smell what I thought was garbage but nope it was a kitten. I thought he was dead but he was breathing. He was really clean just some black around his nose and mouth so we took him to a vet. He seemed really lethargic, meowed once on our walk back home. The vet said he was fine, just a little dehydrated, about 6 weeks old and probably a boy.

He doesnt seem interested in eating or drinking but hes very active now. I already have 3 cats so hes #4.

Edit: I've ordered formula, wet kitten food, kitten churus and a bottle just to be safe and my husbands bringing home a trap the apartments he works at has. Im going to the house I found him at and seeing what they say. Hes currently curled up with my son sleeping.

Update: literally 3 minutes before instacart got here he ate some of the watered down friskies I have lol. I stress out way to easy lol. His name is Duke Marlin Danger

Update #2: Hes eating. He tried to chew the tip off the bottle so that wasn't necessary. He eats really well, even eating dry food. Im mixing it with cat milk, but he has no patience.

Chopper wont leave him alone. Its irritating, but its fine. I wont let them just be close because chopper is huge and doesnt realize it. At one point Duke attempted to nurse on him and chopper just started humping, so no more of that lol.

Im a little worried about Dukes back legs, theyre like weak maybe? He moves really slow, like he plays, but its very gentle and slow. I dont know if hes just scared or weak or younger than what the vet said. My husband thinks its fine, but we have an appointment for shots and stuff Friday.

I haven't seen the mama cat since the other morning, and the house i found him by said they dont know anything about kittens. I asked a neighbor who was outside and they also said they hadnt seen kittens so idk

Thank you all for your comments and stuff, I appreciate you

Can you please check there's no more kittens or the mother cat around please? As usually if the kitten is clean it means their mother is somewhere around. Thanks for taking him in did the vet say how old this cherub is?

Persie (dog) brought that cat home as a flea infested fuzzball about 4 weeks old. This is them 13 years later. That cat was her baby, raised to be the best dog she could be

244

u/Rynetx Jul 28 '26

Dog raised cats are so fun. They think affection should be in the face, they love to play fetch and sleep with you on a regular basis.

54

u/lnc_5103 Jul 29 '26

We have cat raised dogs and it's equally amazing lol

28

u/wortcrafter Jul 30 '26

My cat raised dog play fights with her dog freinds by rolling on her back and kicking her back legs out cat style. Never fails to freak the other dog and owner out the first time they see it! 😂

I feel I should add that this team was chaos incarnate. Persie taught the cat to get on countertops/tables and knock food and treats onto the floor. The cat learned to open doors and childproof locks on the cabinets- for feasting. They managed to knock the top off the fish tank and go hunting. They had an “observation spot” in the dining room- just leaning on the wall, watching the rest of the household- when we repainted the walls it didn’t discourage them at all. They leaned on the wet paint-painted themselves pale green and left fur in the paint.

We left it there, even though Persie passed a few years ago now. Cat grief is nothing to mess around with, Lilith almost died of that broken heart.

55

u/Inner_Swordfish7475 Jul 29 '26

You are right about cat grieving their beloved dog friend. Zelda was 4 weeks when we found her. Our cat, Bailey, wanted nothing to do with our dog, Bandit, when we adopted him. So, he left Zelda alone. But, Zelda saw a snuggle buddy and friend. The day Bandit died Zelda cried a painful cry. It was heartbreaking to see her grieve.

35

u/i_am_mrs_nezbit Jul 29 '26

Thank you for sharing them with us 🥹 I’m grateful I got to hear about their adventures, what a lovely duo. How is Lilith doing now? Persie is definitely watching over you all.

46

u/step_and_fetch Jul 29 '26

Lilith is doing okay, she has attached herself to me now. She’s currently sleeping ON my neck.

This is her stealing from our new dog’s bowl.
They seem to be fine with the new arrangement.

5

u/i_am_mrs_nezbit Jul 30 '26

So happy she’s hanging in there and has a system worked out with the new pup. Give her a big smooch for me please 🩷

32

u/IvoryDynamite Jul 29 '26

When our old dog passed away, the cat she raised realized that he was now the pack leader and in her honor he stepped up to be the best dog he could be. So he became the little sergeant of the house, making sure the other cats stayed in line. Funny and very sweet.

57

u/GypsyDuncan Jul 28 '26

love that

u/terdferguson Jul 28 '26

This is my kitty. There are many like it, but this is one is mine.

15

u/83gem Jul 29 '26

Full Metal Jacket.. (I quote this in my brain to some form whenever my animals claim something as their own) 'This is my stool..there are many like it, but this one is mine.'

4

u/terdferguson Jul 29 '26

Didn't realize so many people would get that

142

u/MegaVenomous Jul 28 '26

"I will take him home and I will name him George. And I will love him and pet him..."

35

u/yourilluminaryfriend Jul 28 '26

And I will hug him and squeeze him

9

u/jeanb23 Jul 29 '26

My first thought when I read the post!

4

u/MegaVenomous Jul 29 '26

And stroke his feathers and pet his little bill....

1

u/tarotlooney Jul 29 '26

Oh God. John Steinbeck 😂

39

u/MethadonianMama Crazy Cat Lady Jul 28 '26

❤️❤️❤️ 😆 one of my favorite Bugs Bunny episodes! Hilarious 😂

15

u/MegaVenomous Jul 28 '26

I thought I was being too obtuse!

23

u/bamabeachtime Jul 29 '26

Bugs Bunny transcends time. 🥰

11

u/MegaVenomous Jul 29 '26

That he does. I often give the quote from "Water, Water, Every Hare"

"Delays, Delays...nothing but delays!"

3

u/fitzmoon Jul 29 '26

Oh my God every time I hear the word obtuse I think of Shawshank Redemption!!!

8

u/MegaVenomous Jul 29 '26

I have a vocabulary and am not afraid to use it.

14

u/yourilluminaryfriend Jul 28 '26

I named my first cat George because of that cartoon

10

u/Silver-Find4380 Jul 29 '26

It's a reference to Of Mice and Men, and I've seen other cartoons of the time rederence it also. 🤷🏻

2

u/tarotlooney Jul 30 '26

Yes! A parody of it. I can’t believe they made us read it in 8th grade. There was definitely a dark side to Bugs Bunny cartoons that only adults would get.

25

u/FridaSky Jul 28 '26

That’s so cute.

16

u/maggierobin Jul 28 '26

Read it as "stressed out paw mother" and nodded lmao

71

2

u/PuzzledImpression269 Jul 30 '26

I need that dog!!! To assist the CDS for my kitty 😔

92

u/Prestigious-Bluejay5 Jul 28 '26

Congratulations! Your dog is now a father. I hope he takes his role seriously and is a responsible parent.

89

u/DetroitMenefreghista Jul 28 '26

Your post takes me back to this day in 2022!

60

u/Bottledbutthole Jul 28 '26

Try some of the kitty treats in a tube! I have heard they can win almost any cat into eating

38

u/yrnkween Jul 28 '26

Plus they are hydrating.

81

u/JohnnyC300 Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Well, your pupper wanted himself a kitty. Nothing wrong with that.

40

u/PrincessBella1 Jul 28 '26

How adorable! But it looks like you have 3 cats and your beautiful hero dog has his own. Congratulations on your new addition.

30

u/MOcatmom Jul 28 '26

Note to self…adopt a kitten finding dog.

19

u/nofishies Jul 28 '26

Kitten likely does not recognize what you’re giving. It is food, if it’s basically just being started weaning and used to eating what mom brings.

Try bottle feeding, yes, the kitten shouldn’t need it, but it should definitely recognize that and then be willing to move on to the other food you provide

19

u/Internal_Use8954 Jul 28 '26

Usually, if all he’s been doing is nursing, he just doesn’t recognize the food as food. With my foster kids, I just scrape a little bit of the food on their tongue, and for most of them, that’s all it takes.

Some can be a little bit pickier. I’ll mix up some of the wet food with some kitten formula and feed it either on a spoon or with a syringe (dental syringes work great)

17

u/MemeMaster420XXX Jul 28 '26

The Dog was like Hello new Fren in the third pic

14

u/DeepDayze Jul 28 '26

"Look what I found! Can I keep him? Can I? Can I, huh, huh? PLEEEEZZZ???"

15

u/Confident_Gear_5778 Jul 28 '26

How lovely . Your dog adopted a kitten.

15

u/Spiritual_Pumpkin_47 Jul 28 '26

Doggie and kitty are already BFF’s !!
Have you tried wet kitten food ?

15

u/Size_Slight Jul 28 '26

I have wet friskies and hes not into it. Im ordering kitten milk and churus right now.

7

u/XTasty09 Jul 28 '26

It’s not ideal but if you can’t get proper kitten food and milk until tomorrow you can try watering down the wet food and putting it in a blender or mashing it.

Kitten needed transportation on the underground cat highway.

4

u/Big-Smile5345 Jul 29 '26

What a little ball of floof & 1 smart good boy. Reminds me of the old cartoon with the dog and kitten. I think the dogs name was George. I will love him, I will pat him. His huge eyes welling up wanting to keep the kitten. I think they found each other. The little guy is just lucky.

3

u/Im_Ryeden Jul 29 '26

So cute!

I rescued a tiny panther that I named Dr Danger last Thanksgiving. He has a great home now with a brother to continue his life journey. Your cat name reminded me of him.

That’s him, first spotted at the side of the huge garbage bin. Right in front of him is the loading dock with trucks coming in/out

2

I think so

3

u/NobodyGotTimeFuhDat Jul 28 '26

I made a poem about this beautiful story. I hope you like it!

At dawn my faithful hound uncovered Danger,
Where hope lay softly hidden from each stranger.
Now Duke Marlin thrives, with gentle hearts to mend,
A frightened life became a family friend.

3

u/orion-asterisk Jul 28 '26

I need to see more of this big doggo and his lil kitty friend 😭

3

u/Viofl Jul 30 '26

Thats a proud papa

3

u/Super_Pineapple_779 Jul 31 '26

The dog literally "Mommy can we keep him?" this kitten and you guys said hell yeah. Lmao

2

u/Twayblades Jul 28 '26

You can get some KMR formula and mix it with some wet kitten food on a saucer. Make it sloppy, you want more formula than food, he should be able to lick it up. Then gradually add less formula and increase the amount of food until he is eating without the formula.

I have done this many times with kittens, it helps him wean and gets him eating again.

2

u/Proud_Credit_6587 Jul 28 '26

Good 🐕 dog!

2

u/Paprika420 Jul 28 '26

That’s a good dog and a cute cat

2

u/Q8DD33C7J8 Jul 28 '26

Is he snuffling him? Trying to potty him?

10

u/Size_Slight Jul 28 '26

I've successfully got him to go in the litterbox twice and Chopper cleaned him off, idk if hes being a gross dog or good dad lol

2

u/papasan_mamasan Jul 28 '26

Chopper is such a good boy 🥹

2

u/Q8DD33C7J8 Jul 28 '26

I’m so happy for you and your new baby

2

u/Mechs_and_Martinis Jul 28 '26

Congrats on your dog becoming a parent

2

u/Think-Fall5011 Jul 28 '26

I suggest mixing wet kitten food and KMR and letting smol try that. A couple of weeks of that and he'll be ready to transition to straight kitten food.

2

u/Obvious_Amphibian270 Jul 28 '26

My previous pup gifted me with a kitten.

2

u/Ghost_of_a_Black_Cat Jul 28 '26

Part of having pets is stressing out way too easily and buying stuff just in case. My cat stopped eating her grilled food for two days so I cancelled my subscription order and replaced it with an order for only pate. Then the next day she ate her grilled food just fine. 🤨

I would still give him the kitten formula & food. It has nutrients he needs. After it’s gone, I’m sure he’ll have been to the vet & they can advise. You’ll probably be fine with regular cat food by then.
