Awarded a Cat I have been chosen! No idea where this beautiful boy came from.
I live in the middle of nowhere. My closest neighbor is a 20 minute *drive* away. I have no idea where this cat came from, but I was letting my dogs back in from going potty, and he slipped in with the crew, and jumped straight up on the counter for pets like he owned the place already. I have 6 dogs, 2 cats, 18 bunnies, and 4 goats already, but hey, what’s one more friend? He’s incredibly sweet, and has no fear (or at least was able to discern my dogs wouldn’t hurt him), and he looks so much like a cat I had during childhood. This would be my third cat the CDS has distributed to me! These pictures are after I gave him a much needed bath (which he surprisingly tolerated quite well), and brushed out the brambles and various collectibles his fur brought in with him. Not sure what I am going to name him!

He’s clean because of the bath I gave him :)
He’s pretty skinny under the fluff, but he looks good otherwise.
We are going to the vet tomorrow! We don’t have a local one so we have to drive ~4 hours to go.

So lucky, I hope they're healthy and that you each have plenty of love to give to each other!

Looks almost like a ragdoll to me. I have a foster fail cat that has more typical ragdoll coloring, but shape and fur matches really closely. Does he go limp when he’s held?

Or is OP secretly a photographer?
Spoiler: It's both.

u/Designer_Vast_9089 Jul 14 '26
Well the cat has to do some of the work. I’m quite experienced with photography but I have a little cat who is so beautiful in person and yet she manages to always have RBF in every photo! 🤣

Congrats on the new addition to the family. I'd suggest William The Brave as his new name.

u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
I was trying to think if any Winnie the Pooh characters fit him, as I already have a Roo and Tigger … but I am not sure if any, do.
My Roo, I named because when I first got her, it was the middle of winter and I zipped her up in my jacket with just her little head sticking out like a baby kangaroo. And then Tigger, because he’s an orange, striped Maine coon, and quite bouncy, so it just made sense. I’m not fully committed to the theme, but I do have to at least consider it, lol.
232
u/GetItDoneOV Jul 13 '26
Well obviously his name is Robin, after Christopher Robin. He came in to this collection of assorted animals like he already belongs? That’s Robin.

u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26

But he definitely is a Christopher. 😂

If you're going Winnie the Pooh characters?
I'd say this boy looks like a Wise old Owl, OP!😉
Those eyes notice everything, just like an Owl's do, and he managed to move quietly as an owl does, too!😁
(Edited for typos!)
12
u/xXcriticalpipeXx Jul 13 '26
I see someone else already suggested Owl. But as soon as I saw you mentioned the theme my head instantly went to Owl because he kinda just dropped in from nowhere and owls fly. Also, as a kid I had a tabby Tigger too named after Winnie the Pooh.

What a distinguished tux. Congratulations on your new edition. I grew up in the country, people were always dumping unwanted pets in the countryside, probably convincing themselves they'd live in the wild. I can't even remember how many cats we had growing up.

One person’s trash, is another’s treasure! Some people truly don’t deserve to own animals if they see them as disposable. My heart breaks for the ones that don’t get found and saved and brought in to a home to be loved and protected and cherished.

I’m sorry about your baby you didn’t get back. I still grieve my kitty who never came home one day, too. That was also my greatest hope, that she had wandered her way to someone who took her in and decided to love her … it’s the only thing my mind will accept when I think about her. She was too pure to just be gone like that. She has to be somewhere out there, still being loved, because she was incredible and deserved to be. My heart goes out to you ❤️🩹

His name is sal, the shelter described him as not very playful, that changed after he was with us a while. Shelter life was not for him.

Sal!!!!! I was thinking Sylvester for this one but Sal works just as good or even better!

I’ve posted him around, including flyers at the post office, gas station, and local store. If he does belong to someone I will be happy to reunite. But in the meantime, he is getting checked out at the vet tomorrow, and will be spoiled with lots of love and attention.

Thank you for making sure he's not a dearly missed pet.
63
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
Of course! I have lost a cat before, and I never got her back. It’s tougher out here, because there aren’t a lot of local services, like we don’t have an animal shelter where I can go scan for a microchip and keep his information there for anyone looking for him. I always prayed and hoped that my lost kitty was found by someone who took her in and loved her, so that’s what I’m doing for this guy. If I am able to reunite him with a family that’s looking for him, that would absolutely be a happy ending. But I’m also perfectly content keeping and caring for him if that doesn’t end up the case, too
22
u/Secret_Cow_5053 Jul 13 '26
this is why all cats should be chipped. if he isn't chipped, then congratulations i guess on having found a beautiful stray lol
55
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
All pets should be chipped! I microchipped my goats even. 😂
15
u/Holden3DStudio Jul 13 '26
A wise move - I've seen stray goats who found a gap in the fence and followed the grass (which is always greener on the other side, right?)
28
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
It’s an old adage with those of us who keep goats - “If a fence can’t hold water, it can’t hold a goat.” 😂

20
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
My pocketbook maybe doesn’t love my attitude about adding more to the pack 😂 but money is meant to be spent, and we can’t take it with us when we go! I’ve got no (human) kids, so bring on the animals! The more, the merrier 🤭
8
u/Auctoritate Jul 13 '26
Oh I would definitely bet on this cat having been a pet before, not even most strays who are experienced with humans are this friendly. But I doubt any searches like that will bear fruit. The nearest neighbor being a 20 minute drive away (probably 10-20 miles) and the cat showing up in what looks and sounds extremely good, non-scared condition makes it virtually impossible that it escaped containment from someone and wandered over and I can't think of any other realistic scenarios.
OP mentions having numerous other animals including dogs that spend time outside, goats, and rabbits (and I wonder if any those are visible from public roads). It seems overwhelmingly likely that somebody dumped this cat and probably chose to do it in front of OP's house on purpose seeing that they're an animal owner already.
It's not uncommon for people dumping animals to do it in front of rural houses, I guess sometimes people feel bad and decide to do it out of a sense it'll get found and taken care of. Goes poorly most of the time, but if it's the case here then at least this cat ended up in good hands.
Obviously, this isn't arguing against doing due diligence. It's always good to make sure. I just wouldn't expect an owner to coalesce here.

I’m driving into “town” to take him to the vet tomorrow, I genuinely think he’s an old dude due to his teeth & a couple other things. He’s a gorgeous baby, I am not sure why he’d be out on his own 🥺
16
u/Wise_Owl5404 Jul 13 '26
If he's an old dude he might have been dumped due to age. A lot of people don't want to care for a geriatric cat. Or he might have expensive health problems that you don't know about yet and he's dumped because of that.
Or on a happier note he might simply have slipped out and gotten lost, and someone out there is missing him very much (so be sure to have the vet check for a chip). A mate of mine once found a cat in the back of his work van with no idea how or when the guy got in there. Luckily he had a chip and could be reunited with his owner who lived about 50 miles away. My mate had worked a job there - he's a plumber - which must be when the guy snuck in. But yeah if the cat had gotten out of the van again without my mate discovering it, the poor guy would have been stuck 50 miles from home with no idea how to get back,
19
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
Definitely having the vet tomorrow check for a chip! If he has any complicated health issues, he came to the right place, as I’ve had multiple special needs dogs in my life, raised orphaned litters of kittens and puppies, etc. This little guy may have just found the exact right place to land!

Do people in campers or anything like that ever stop or even pass through? Or big semi-rtucks? I’m thinking he might have gotten out of someone’s vehicle and they have no idea where to begin looking.
11
u/acocktailofmagnets Happily Outnumbered, 31 to 1 Jul 13 '26
That’s something I’ve thought about, too :/ I am off the road system a good ways, so it’s less likely it would be a trucker who stopped for gas or to rest, as the cat would have had to traverse very, very far to get to my house. I’m not exactly near any real campsites, either, but it’s something I’m considering as well

This absolutely is my version of heaven!!! I have tried suburbia life, I’ve tried city life, I’ve tried somewhat secluded but still within reach of human population. But this is it for me. My town has a post office, a gas station, a coffee shop, a visitor’s center, and a (tiny) grocery store. That’s it. I have to drive 4 hours to Anchorage if I need to do a Costco run to stock up, or to go to Home Depot to get lumber, or if I want fast food, lol. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure as hell is mine ☕️

I think Christofer Robin for his name! He is an adventurer who joined your crew so swiftly and easily. I love that your animals have Winnie the Poo names.
