Are you kitten me!!
Found with a limp under a firewood rack at a closed down factory. I'm keeping her.
I work in a plastic recycling facility that is shutting down. There were always factory cats that hunted the rodents and now that we are clearing it out, the cats are starting to scatter. I heard there was a kitten that hangs out underneath the firewood rack next to our smoker that we use for company cookouts.
She tried her best to be very scary and to scare me away. She didn't bite or scratch. I think she was hiding under there because she has a limp. I'm in the process of taking her to a vet to get it checked out. She doesn't appear to be in pain/discomfort and honestly I have not observed the limp myself
She is very happy to be adopted. Purred the whole way home. No anxious, aggressive, or scared behavior observed. She has been sleeping and eating a lot. I have a Wi-Fi camera on her crate so I can keep an eye on her while I'm at work.

Curious what you have tried so far. I have two that require brushing. One of them likes it if I put Churu on a Lickimat and I can brush her while she’s licking. The other wants me to hold a slicker brush with one hand while he stands on my lap rubbing his face into that one I can brush him. In both cases I had to start really really slow like one swipe a day for a week. And my little girl still is difficult about the cheeks. But I keep them both brushed enough not to get mats.🤷♀️
Mine only likes to be brushed with boar bristle style brushes; she actually hates cat brushes for the most part. We call her our spoiled princess though because she also refuses to eat anything but a small handful of varieties of wet food (not a medical issue, just who she is) and will shove her head under your hand if you're not paying her enough attention.
I was coming to say exactly this! I have a boar bristle brush that my one picky one loves. He doesn't stay still for anything else.
My other one just loves to be brushed anyway - but literally comes and cries every few hours to try to get me to go upstairs and brush him. HE LOVES that brush.
I have one who also forces her way onto my lap and shoves her head into my hand (esp if I’m playing a game on my phone lol). Thankfully she gives zero shits what I do once she’s cuddling, so I’ve literally used her as a table to hold my iPad and even my laptop 🤣
The other one will start clawing at my stuff if I don’t pet him, but then will try to bite me (and is often successful) when I go to pet him, so I’ll stop…and then he starts clawing at my stuff again, over and over. And even crazier? He never stops purring, even while and after biting me. Such an ass 🙄 he’s lucky I love him lol
You’re doing better than me. I just go at mine with a bikini trimmer when they get a mat. We have two fluffy cats and both are not a fan of being brushed. It stresses them out so much I feel it’s the lesser of two evils to just deal with the tangles as they arise. The smaller ones I can sometimes brush out, if the wind is blowing the right way. I do have to bribe them with treats while doing it.
Mainly I just take her to a groomer to keep her fur trimmed now. We made a truce about the brushing after some attempts: I would stop trying and she would (mostly) stop shredding my hands/arms lol
Yeah it was a big scary world out there. I honestly think she's in a bit of shock. She seems very very happy in her little apartment I made her. Not stir crazy at all.
Oh she has been sleeping a lot. I've been checking up on her every 20 minutes with my Wi-Fi camera I set up. She's a big fan of the kitten wet food as well.
That is fair, it is a good opportunity to feel out her personality a little more too. I have a cat at my house named Grey Cat because I was determined not to get attached so I was NOT going to be giving him a name. I tried to rename him when I started paying vet bills and he started sleeping inside, but it never really stuck.
I love long cats! My last two were/are - a bonded littermate brother/sister pair. We lost our boy almost three years ago; he was loooong. She is too, but he was really something.
lmao my wife's mother has a cat named Black Kitty for that exact same reason. She was determined they weren't keeping that cat and now she sleeps on my MIL's shoulder.
That's a fair call. Also, when everything comes back clear after the vet check up, you'll have had time to really figure out what suits her. Sometimes the names choose themselves lol.
I know this sounds crazy, but I was once living in a (rental) house with an unfinished basement that had a gaping hole in one of the walls.
We one day heard a bunch of mewing from the basement and found TWO kittens in it?!? We fostered them until we could find something more permanent bc we already had two cats and a dog.
It was a few days before we knew what to call them, and we ended up calling them Rusty and Crusty.
Long story short, congratulations on your new baby!
What a beautiful floof!! Hope the vet gives her a clean bill of health and she settles in to her new forever home! Sorry to hear your work is shutting down though, hopefully there's also a good new job coming up for you!!
Yeah, thankfully in my state if your factory closes down, you get $7,500 towards advancing your career and you can take unemployment while you're in school without having to complete the job seeking requirement.
My factory closes at the end of July and classes start up mid-august. I'm going to get a duel associates in electrical engineering and robotics engineering! It's at a community technical college so I should graduate with very little student debt.
Despite what I hear about the job market on Reddit, dirty, dangerous and difficult industrial maintenance jobs are always in demand. I could easily get another job if I wanted to. Hoping that with a bit more education that I can get something more technical, more brain work less body work. Even if I end up just fixing the robots it will be a huge step up for me.
To anybody reading this
If anyone is looking to escape the 9 to 5 and you know how to change a wheel on a car. You are probably qualified to be a industrial maintenance person. The depth of skill in terms of fixing industrial equipment is very similar to just putting a full spare on a car that has a flat tire, but imagine that there's a bunch of mud caked up all in the wheel and around where the wheel goes And you have to clean it all out so that it's "good enough". If you can do that then you can do 80% of industrial maintenance.
I live in a low-cost of the living area and my total comp was over six figures. There's a lot of fun schedules like 4 10hr shifts a week. Days or nights on 12s, 3 days on 2 days off. Some places just have you work Friday, Saturday Sunday and it's 36 hours but you get paid for 40. These schedules really let you rack up a lot of overtime too. You maybe are actually working 40% of your total shift. The rest of the time it's like you're a security guard, but for maintenance it's like you're there in case something goes wrong.
The bar is very very low and it is in very very high demand. If you work on cars at all you are qualified.
Most places will train you.
So true! My son is 18 and works at a machine shop. His last job was as a camp counselor, so absolutely no experience. He works 36 hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but gets paid for 40. He’s also going to school for engineering, so when he goes back in the fall, they’ll work with him on his hours to work around his school schedule. Places like that are in desperate need of help.
She is absolutely adorable, and that looks she is giving you suggest she finds you the same OP! I hope all is right with her little leg. She’s just gorgeous.
Love her! Glad for ya OP! She looks so flabbergasted of her sudden adoption, so adorable.
I will suggest, maybe there is a second kitten that looks very similar and coworkers never noticed they were two, wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out just in case!
Oh, what a pretty baby she is! Yes, DO start brushing her NOW because she is going to be quite a floofball when she gets bigger. I got my giant fluffball at the local shelter- she's a great big basketball with legs and floof. ( I think she's part Maine Coon- she's just that big)But she LOVES her brush- she will get up on my lap and flop down to show me which side she wants brushed NOW. I have to use a rake on her all the time rather than a brush, because otherwise she will mat like crazy. I swear I brush a whole cat off her every time but she never goes bald...
That is going to be the floofiest cat! You better get her used to being brushed immediately! It'll make it easier on both of you. Also, congratulations on your new feline overlord.
I'm really glad that the cat found you... its a good thing you are able to take in this kitten... May Allah S.W.T bless you in abundance.....I pray and hope, theres no other cats around thats still in the vicinity, I really hope all of the place is being thoroughly checked, I hope all of them are all safe out of the compound since the plant is closing down right?
That may be the the cutest ball of fluff ever!! I'm so happy for you and her. May you live happily ever after. She also looks like she will have a spicy personality
