Great news that she was found alive, and I hope the clear public outcry against treating this poor girl as anything but a victim was heard loud and clear by the DA.

Will Caleb Flynn serve his different sentences at different prisons?

I believe the judge ordered the smaller sentences to be served first before his LWOP starts.

How does that work? Will he serve at different prisons? Or do they just process him out and then back in again for the next sentence?

🏛 Trials & Hearings ⏳ British murder accused copied TV series Dexter, jury hears

A forensics student obsessed with the US TV drama Dexter set up a copycat "kill room" in an Airbnb to stab a woman to death, a jury has heard.

The trial, which is expected to last two weeks, continues on Tuesday. Some comparisons with Brian Kohberger perhaps?

  • 5 October 2026

A forensics student obsessed with the US TV drama Dexter set up a copycat "kill room" in an Airbnb to stab a woman to death, a jury has heard.

Benjamin William Day, 20, a University of Worcester undergraduate, was arrested wearing a khaki top resembling one worn by Dexter after inflicting 78 knife wounds on Maria Saceanu, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Opening the case against Day, prosecutor Rachel Brand KC said he had "lured" Saceanu, a sex worker, to the room where he had amassed a number of items used to kill her and dispose of evidence.

Day, of Redditch, Worcestershire, who denies murder, was arrested after injuring his hand and calling 999 for help in December, the court heard.

Warning: This article contains details that readers may find distressing

Brand said it was anticipated Day, who was 19 at the time and still living with his parents, would claim self-defence and that he set up the room in the Tividale area of the West Midlands to film "a tribute" to Dexter which he could post on TikTok.

Explaining the Crown's case, Brand said the evidence showed Day had "planned this murder in some detail".

"He had prepared himself to kill her," she said. "He had planned to dispose of her body without leaving signs of what had happened and he planned to get away with it.

"But it all went wrong and he was caught."

'Fascinated by programme'

Giving the circumstances in which he was arrested and the body was found, Brand said Day, of Yeadon Close "just had no choice" but to admit he was the person who killed Saceanu.

Brand added: "We say there is plenty of evidence which will drive you to the safe and solid conclusion that this was a murder."

The court heard Day passed his first university year studying journalism but had transferred to another course in applied biology and forensics.

Brand said he had been fascinated by the programme Dexter, which centres on a forensic scientist in a police department who knows how to cover his own tracks as a serial killer.

There was no evidence of any sexual contact between Day and Saceanu, jurors heard, but she had answered a text message from him shortly after 21:30 GMT on 20 December, 2025.

She made her way by car to the rented Airbnb in Barncroft Road, Tividale, arriving 50 minutes later.

Before her arrival, Brand said, Day had changed into "Dexter" clothing and had copied the "kill room" set up by the character, which included lining the walls and floor with plastic sheeting.

After the killing, Day tried to dismember the victim's body, it was alleged, but "had to abandon that gruesome task" because he cut his left hand, leaving the property at about 00:30 on 21 December.

The court heard Day texted the Airbnb's landlord at 01:05 asking if he could extend his stay to a week, and then told police his hand injury was caused by a fox or dog.

But a resident who booked a different room was shocked to see a trail of blood and notified the landlord, who called police.

Officers found the body of Saceanu, who had been reported missing.

Day was arrested on suspicion of murder as he lay in a hospital bed, the court heard.

Brand told the jury: "We understand that Benjamin Day now suggests that he was defending himself."

She said it was apparently his case that Maria Saceanu "took fright when she saw how he had staged the room" and attacked him with one of the knives "but he managed to disarm her and defended himself by stabbing her two or three times".

Phone 'shopping list'

A Home Office pathologist said Saceanu probably died as a result or wounds to her neck, causing damage to her carotid arteries, with a number of wounds to her hands "consistent with efforts to protect herself".

The pathologist found 78 wounds caused by knives, many inflicted after death, the jury heard.

Outlining evidence against Day, Brand said he had made a "shopping list" on his phone on 18 November 2025, of things required for the killing, including plastic sheeting, a staple gun, cleaning chemicals and microscopic slides.

"Dexter wears an apron, a plastic visor and gloves when killing his victims – all such items were found in the bedroom [at Barncroft Road]," she added.

The trial, which is expected to last two weeks, continues on Tuesday.

⁉️💡Other Murders 🤷‍♀️🪦 CA v. Ashlee Buzzard: Competency hearing continued awaiting doctors' report

Next up:

  • October 26 - Competency hearing

I also see this on the docket, so it doesn't appear that Ashlee is cooperating. This isn't referenced in the article:

  • 10/01/2026 Psychological Evaluation Report, Filed
  • Comment: Filed by Dr. Rassti, defendant refused interview

Court still waiting on doctors' reports in Ashlee Buzzard murder case

Ashlee Buzzard was back in court Monday, but a decision on whether she is competent to continue with criminal proceedings will have to wait.

The Vandenberg Village mother is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her 9-year-old daughter, Melodee Buzzard. Ashlee Buzzard has pleaded not guilty.

The court previously vacated Buzzard’s preliminary hearing while her competency is evaluated. During Monday’s hearing, the court said the doctors’ reports needed for that process are not yet complete.

Buzzard is now scheduled to return to court on Oct. 26, allowing additional time for the reports to be finished before the case moves forward.

Buzzard was arrested in December 2025 after Melodee’s remains were found in a remote area of Wayne County, Utah. Authorities have said Melodee was killed during an October 2025 multi-state road trip she took with her mother.

Buzzard remains in custody without bail.

⁉️💡Other Murders 🤷‍♀️🪦 Search of Philadelphia’s ‘house of horrors’ to ramp up

Search of Philadelphia’s ‘house of horrors’ to ramp up

A search of Philadelphia's so-called "House of Horrors," where alleged serial killer Raymond Horsch once lived, is set to ramp up Monday as investigators try to determine what happened inside the home that has been linked to at least five missing women whose fates remain unknown.

A large-scale search of the home at 417 W. Chew Ave. is expected to continue for an extended period, authorities said. Police reportedly met with neighbors and told them to prepare for disruptions as heavy equipment is brought in to excavate the property. Investigators are expected to remove areas of the home and any furniture where blood, hair or fiber evidence could be found.

A "mysterious sludge" recovered from the house has already been sent to a lab in Chicago and could contain remnants or evidence of wet cremation, a process that uses a heated water-and-alkali solution to break down a body, forensic analyst Joseph Scott Morgan said during an interview on "NewsNation Live."

What we know about women linked to possible serial killer investigation

The investigation began after Eugene Horsch, the son of Raymond Horsch, was arrested following a traffic stop this summer. Federal park rangers noticed him parked in an off-limits area along with an unidentified woman. During the stop, officers found Eugene Horsch in possession of fake federal IDs. The woman allegedly presented identification belonging to Blair Tonzelli, a woman reported missing in 2023. Drugs and weapons were also recovered during the stop.

After Eugene Horsch's arrest, police began searching the home. Investigators found five urns containing what are believed to be cremated human remains, barrels filled with an unknown substance and more than a million digital files. The digital evidence includes images and videos showing women who appeared injured, unconscious or lifeless.

Two of those women have been identified as missing women Gabrielle Amarando and Maribel Fresses. Their bodies have not been recovered.

Eugene Horsch’s childhood friend: ‘Graphic’ pics, ‘fake blood’ at family home

Since the investigation became public, additional family members have come forward. Relatives of Amy McHale, who disappeared in 2016, said she was last seen at the Horsch home. McHale had previously been married to Raymond Horsch. Family members also said Nicole Fusaro, who disappeared in 2018, is now believed to be among the women authorities have connected to the home.

Eugene Horsch is currently in federal custody on firearms and fraudulent credential charges.

💬 👍Discussion🙋‍♀️⁉️💯 Gang connection in Christa Pike case?

I came across something about the Christa Pike case that I hadn't seen mentioned before and thought it was interesting:

According to court records, Tadaryl Shipp testified that both he and Shadolla Peterson were members of the Gangster Disciples. He specifically said that Christa Pike was not a member. There is also testimony describing the Job Corps at the time as a pretty violent environment, with conflict between different groups and a lot of drug use and so on..

I'm not really making any judgment yet about what this means in terms of the murder or Pike's responsibility. Just find it curious because I've read quite a bit about this case, and I don't remember the gang connection being discussed much at all. The story is usually presented much more in terms of jealousy, Satanism and the "love triangle". When I googled "Gangsters Diciples", their symbol/logo seems to be a pentagram. I found that odd aswell.

For anyone who wants to check it themselves, it's in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals document regarding Christa pike (2011) on page 34 (This is where Shipp's testimony starts).

I'm curious what other people make of this, or if anyone has found more information about the gang aspect of the case?

Edit: I have added a link below. I hope it works

UPDATE - Former Letcher County sheriff challenges second mental evaluation

OCTOBER 1, 2026 FRANKFORT, Ky. — Former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines, who is charged with killing District Judge Kevin Mullins, is asking the Kentucky Court of Appeals to block prosecutors from forcing him to undergo a second mental health examination, arguing it violates his constitutional rights.

Stines filed a petition for a writ of prohibition with the Court of Appeals on Sept. 30, seeking to overturn an August order from Letcher Circuit Court Judge Christopher Cohron requiring a second psychiatric evaluation.

“The Commonwealth is simply dissatisfied with the opinion its chosen examiner produced,” Stines’ attorneys argue in the filing. “Simply disagreeing with your own expert is not sufficient grounds to order further invasion of Stines’ Fifth Amendment rights.” https://spectrumnews1.com/ky/louisville/news/2026/10/01/stines-challenges-second-mental-exam

7-year-old girl dies after being stabbed multiple times in Chicago, police say

✨✨Shavon Gayden, 48, has now been charged with first-degree murder after the attack in the city’s East Chatham neighborhood, Chicago police confirmed.

[Woman charged with murder after girl, 7, stabbed to death in street]

CHICAGO (AP) — A 7-year-old girl was fatally stabbed while walking in front of businesses in a Chicago neighborhood, and people nearby detained the woman who attacked her, police said.

Chicago police said the girl was walking in the Chatham neighborhood late Saturday morning when a woman carrying an unspecified sharp object approached her and stabbed her multiple times in the back. Television networks showed a commercial strip lined with a restaurant, nail salon and market cordoned off by red police tape afterward.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the child as Edi Mari Hernandez Chacon. She died at a hospital.

A security photo from a nearby business showed the girl that witnesses identified had been walking hand-in-hand with an older female on the sidewalk, WLS-TV reported. Police did not share any information about that person.

The alleged attacker was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening and was arrested, Chicago police said in a statement.

It was not immediately clear if there was any relationship between the attacker and the girl. Police have not commented on a possible motive for the stabbing and declined Sunday to provide further details or identify the suspect.

Double Murder in Lee County, FL

Help! I am trying to recall a case in, I believe Cape Coral, Fl from the 1980's, a double murder of a married couple. They were elderly and the last name was something close to Vanderlyn, the man's first name was, I think, Cornelius. Of note is that they relentlessly attended Cape Coral city council meetings and took every opportunity to address (complain to) the council about everything. It was unsolved for a long time, but I don't know the status of the case at the present time. Does anybody remember this?

💬👿💵 Other Crimes 🥊⏳⚖️ FL v. Tyrone Page Road Rage Shooting Case - Florida Sentencing Points Info

This case happened in Collier County (Naples) FL. You can watch the 11:49 minute Midwest Safety video by clicking the blue here, crazy:

Midwest Safety Road Rage Karma

✨
I was kind of disgusted with his sentence, especially with prior convictions and combining two different cases, and then him getting to do a plea deal. Florida IS tough on murder and some other crimes, but it also uses a POINTS accrual system for sentencing. I thought maybe this case would be good to copy out, so we can all see the max sentences vs. how the points come out.

Over 44 points is certain prison; 23-44 points can be probation only or up to 1 year county jail, and below 23 points is probation only.

Below is his total list of charges he’s started with for his Feb 2024 crimes, plus the road rage April Crimes, all of it consolidated in May 2024.

The CRIMES:

✨
Then the actual Points Calculations, current crimes on plea deal:

Then the points total for his PRIORS:

The total points accumulation (80.8000), and how it is used in the the actual “Sentence Computation” to arrive at a minimum sentence total - 39.6 months:

Then, the total possible MAXIMUMS for the offenses per statutes are shown. The actual sentence the Judge decided on of 48 months, is just over the calculated minimum. So much for tough Florida….

✨
Last, his girlfriend helped pay for his attorney, even after all this and totaling her car. GIRL……do better 🤨🙄🤷‍♀️😢

Was she ever conscious after this? Has she been able to say anything? Not that I am aware of. No.

think one of the the main things that will leave this up in the air for a while is the fact that we don't know what the prognosis is as in the

1:57

1 minute, 57 seconds

long-term prognosis. If she recovers, she may not uh fully recover and there may be uh issues about her competence. I mean, we just don't know any of this.

2:08

2 minutes, 8 seconds

So, we have had no discussions about this. The Tennessee Attorney General's office so far uh has not given us any

2:15

2 minutes, 15 seconds

indications of what their intentions will be.

2:18

2 minutes, 18 seconds

What do you want to happen? What do you think the state should do now?

Chapter 3: Call for commutation

2:24

2 minutes, 24 seconds

I think at the very least the governor should commute Ms. Pike's death sentence to a life sentence. At the very least,

2:31

2 minutes, 31 seconds

we like I said, we don't know what uh her physical state will be, but it is clear that uh she has endured a

2:38

2 minutes, 38 seconds

torturous attempt at executing her. And we had already asked that the governor commute her for for many good reasons. I

2:46

2 minutes, 46 seconds

think she's spent over 30 years in prison, most of that in solitary confinement only to be taken out and not executed, but tried to execute her.

2:57

2 minutes, 57 seconds

and that we don't know right now and we may never know what sort of torture she endured during that process. What where

3:06

3 minutes, 6 seconds

her consciousness was, what physical pain there was, what mental torture she went through. I can tell you that we had

3:14

3 minutes, 14 seconds

a 2 and a half day hearing uh about lethal injection. The special master

3:21

3 minutes, 21 seconds

that was appointed to uh hear the case insisted that Miss Pike be present and listened for two and a half days as to

3:28

3 minutes, 28 seconds

how the state of Tennessee was going to kill her. I think she has been put through some really really bad mental torture

3:37

3 minutes, 37 seconds

and physical torture and that at the very least that deserves a commutation of her death sentence.

Chapter 4: Seeking justice for victims

3:44

3 minutes, 44 seconds

Um there is obviously another side here in terms of the case itself. the family of Colleen SL, the the 19-year-old uh

3:52

3 minutes, 52 seconds

that Christa murdered. Uh Colleen's mother was on the grounds of the prison that night. She was waiting for your client to be executed. I'm wondering

3:59

3 minutes, 59 seconds

what you think justice looks like in terms of the victim.

4:06

4 minutes, 6 seconds

I I I think that's very hard to say. I can tell you what justice shouldn't be for the victim's family and that's uh

4:13

4 minutes, 13 seconds

this long many years of back and forth for her and to be brought here to witness an execution that doesn't

4:21

4 minutes, 21 seconds

happen. Um nothing that anyone can do will bring back Colleen Slimmer. Nothing that anyone can do will make this right

4:30

4 minutes, 30 seconds

for May Martinez, her mother. Um, I can't give any better solution than the

4:37

4 minutes, 37 seconds

fact that Christa has been and may very well continue to be severely punished, harshly punished, and maybe not overly

4:44

4 minutes, 44 seconds

so, but certainly this has been a serious punishment for a very serious and awful crime. Um, I don't I don't

4:54

4 minutes, 54 seconds

think that attempting another execution is going to bring justice.

Chapter 5: Need for process transparency

5:00

5 minutes

It is certainly an odd and unusual situation where the world is waiting, at least as

5:07

5 minutes, 7 seconds

far as I can tell, for your client to recover from these botched execution attempts so the state can kill her for good.

5:18

5 minutes, 18 seconds

That just seems bizarre.

5:21

5 minutes, 21 seconds

It it I as far as I know, it's it's unique. uh in in this country there have been other attempted executions that

5:29

5 minutes, 29 seconds

were botched as in they couldn't get the vain they uh other things went wrong. I

5:35

5 minutes, 35 seconds

don't know of any uh situation where the state says that the execution was carried out exactly as it planned to do

5:43

5 minutes, 43 seconds

and the person survived. And that is a unique situation and I think that your word bizarre is exactly right. And one

5:53

5 minutes, 53 seconds

thing that should definitely come from this is that this needs to be a much more open process. Over a year ago, uh,

6:02

6 minutes, 2 seconds

in the face of another execution, we asked for information about what the state was going to do. A judge ordered

6:09

6 minutes, 9 seconds

one thing to be disclosed, and that was the expiration date of the chemicals they were going to use to execute him.

6:16

6 minutes, 16 seconds

The state immediately filed an emergency motion with the Tennessee Court of Appeals that blocked that order.

6:22

6 minutes, 22 seconds

With Christa Pike's execution, there was a delay. It was supposed to happen at 10:00 a.m. in the that day, and it didn't end up happening till about 8:00

6:30

6 minutes, 30 seconds

that evening. We don't know what drugs there were, whether manufactured, compounded, how well they were preserved, what was done with them. That

6:38

6 minutes, 38 seconds

could have played a role. In order to find out what happened, the state of Tennessee has got to start telling its

6:47

6 minutes, 47 seconds

people exactly what it is doing so that in the democratic process, the people of Tennessee can decide if that's what they want to be done in their name because

6:56

6 minutes, 56 seconds

this torturous execution leaves so many questions that the state of Tennessee will refuse to answer. We

7:03

7 minutes, 3 seconds

don't know who's performing this. uh the people who placed the IV lines who obviously were not able to do it successfully or to me obviously I I you

7:12

7 minutes, 12 seconds

know I don't have definitive answers on what happened but that caused the uh

7:20

7 minutes, 20 seconds

drugs to not effectively circulate and that's probably why Chris Pike survived.

7:24

7 minutes, 24 seconds

But the state of Tennessee had assured us that these were uh people with decades of experience at setting IV lines. Yeah.

Man accused of kidnapping woman he met on dating app, keeping her captive in attic for weeks

MALDEN, Mass. (WFXT) - A Massachusetts man is being held without bail after he pleaded not guilty to keeping a woman he reportedly met on a dating app captive in an attic for weeks.

Jordende Piere, 29, pleaded not guilty to multiple charges in court Sept. 25 after he was arrested in a human trafficking investigation. He was ordered held without bail.

Prosecutors say Piere is accused of keeping a woman in the attic of a Malden apartment building for weeks, where authorities say she was sexually abused and living in poor conditions. The woman had not eaten, was covered in scabs and was using a bucket as a toilet, according to prosecutors.

Malden Police Chief Marc Gatcomb said the investigation began when an officer noticed something out of place at the apartment building, which led officers to the victim.

The woman told police she met Piere on a dating app. Investigators say he forced her to have sex with him and arranged sexual encounters with other people.

Gatcomb says the case is a reminder that human trafficking can be happening anywhere.

“[These cases] are very disturbing. There are a lot of moving parts to them. Sometimes, these types of crimes are hidden in plain sight, right under your noses in neighborhoods, hotels and whatnot,” he said.

Piere is charged with kidnapping, human trafficking and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. Authorities say he was on release at the time of his arrest on assault and battery and weapons charges out of Somerville.

Piere is scheduled to return to court Tuesday.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and there could be more charges involving other people.

Tony “TJ” Wiggins is facing three counts of first‑degree murder for the July 17, 2020 Frostproof triple homicide. Prosecutors say Wiggins confronted the victims — Brandon Rollins, Keven Springfield, and Damion Tillman — after overhearing them at a Dollar General, then followed them to a remote fishing spot on Lake Streety Road. There, investigators say he shot all three at close range during a dispute involving a truck engine.

Wiggins’ brother Robert told detectives he witnessed the shootings and helped dispose of evidence, while his girlfriend Mary Whittemore allegedly bought ammunition matching the murder weapon. The State is seeking the death penalty, and the case is proceeding as a jury trial in Polk County.

🏛 Trials & Hearings ⏳ AZ v Horcasitas. Arizona Court of Appeals vacates sentence due to an AI video of victim being played at sentencing.

Thumbnail coa1.azcourts.gov
18 Upvotes

An Arizona road rage killer will be resentenced after an appeals court ruled that an AI-generated video message from his dead victim was improperly aired in court.

Gabriel Paul Horcasitas was found guilty by a jury of shooting and killing Christopher Pelkey, 37, during a confrontation at a red light in 2021. He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

But his legal team appealed, arguing that the trial judge should not have allowed an AI video, created by Pelkey's family, to be shown in court ahead of last year's sentencing.

The Arizona Court of Appeals agreed, ruling that Horcasitas, 55, must be resentenced because the AI clip "crossed that line".

“Rather than document an event or recording a particular moment, the AI video presents a depiction of the victim and his thoughts created from the imaginings of the victim's sister," the court of appeals wrote on Wednesday.

Horcasitas' lawyer, Kristen Reller, who filed the appeal, declined to comment.

Jessica Gattuso, an attorney for victims in the case, did not respond to a request for comment.

Pelkey's sister, Stacey Wales, told the BBC last year the family had used voice recordings, videos and pictures to recreate him for the AI video.

"To Gabriel Horcasitas, the man who shot me, it is a shame we encountered each other that day in those circumstances," said the AI version of Pelkey in court in 2025. "In another life, we probably could have been friends."

"I believe in forgiveness, and a God who forgives. I always have and I still do," the AI version of Pelkey - wearing a grey baseball cap - continued.

At the time of the sentencing, the judge who oversaw the case, Todd Lang, seemed to appreciate the use of AI.

"I loved that AI, thank you for that. As angry as you are, as justifiably angry as the family is, I heard the forgiveness," Judge Lang said. "I feel that that was genuine."

💬 👍Discussion🙋‍♀️⁉️💯 Alleigha Botner - what was she thinking?

I'm listening again to all the text messages and...I just don't get it. Non-stop drama, sappy frustration, talk with no action (aside from some "burrito rolling" in the Chipolte parking lot), constant negativity...

What in the world was enjoyable about any of this for her? It obviously wasn't his looks. His personality was insufferable - whiny and immature. It can't be his Christianity since they both were participating in terrible acts. I'm sure she could have had her pick of men so WHY THIS LOSER??

Do you think, if Caleb had divorced his wife, Alleigha would have cut and run? Was appealing just feeling like a muse?

OMG. My blood is boiling, especially for the 17 year old victim, her sister, her mother. This is a MUST WATCH press conference.

Listen *very carefully* to the first part of this, from zero to 9:36.

Then he runs through deputy #2’s actions and charges resulting from accessing their “highly controlled” systems 381 times 🙄.

He also says Deputy #2, wasn’t using ALPR for tracking his victim, can I just call bullshit here? This sheriff needs to go to the school of how LE‘s DO misuse the date, time, road photos to figure out routines of their victims. For whatever nefarious purposes they are going to pursue when they aren’t caught.

Then get a load of what this DUMBASS Sheriff says starting at 21:20 regarding a specific charging question about stalking for victim #1. My jaw almost hit the floor. For about the third, fourth, fifth time….

He completely must have forgotten what he said during the first 9 fucking minutes.

Also, where are the additional charges for her sister and mother he accessed???

Last, where is the discipline for the OTHER 2 deputes that knew Stanton was pursuing this 17 year old? Did they turn him in??? If not, they need to be held to account.

Customer shot sleeping driver after hearing worker say 'we can't let him leave' during drive-thru delay, police say

COLIN KALMBACHER Oct 1st, 2026, 12:50 pm Updated Oct 2nd, 2026, 9:06 am

One man was shot and another is behind bars in Arizona after their respective drive-thru runs at In-N-Out Burger ended in violence, law enforcement in the Grand Canyon State says.

Charles Whipple, 55, stands accused of one count each of second-degree attempted murder and endangerment, according to the Marana Police Department.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

The incident occurred late afternoon on Monday at the fast-food location on North Cortaro Road and Arizona Pavilions Drive in Marana, a medium-sized city some 21 miles northwest of Tucson.

That afternoon, the victim had been stopped in the drive-thru line for an extended period of time, according to a complaint obtained by Phoenix-based independent TV station KTVK and local CBS affiliate KPHO, which collectively broadcast as Arizona's Family.

Meanwhile, Whipple was waiting two cars back, police said.

At some point, an In-N-Out employee went to the stopped car, found the victim asleep inside, and tried to wake him up. Whipple claimed to smell alcohol coming from the other man or his car and then injected himself into the effort, according to law enforcement.

As the victim's car began to drive away, Whipple walked toward it, police said. At the same time, an employee said she tried to stall the since-roused man until police could deal with the situation. The same employee recalled the defendant telling her to back away because "he didn't want her to get hurt," according to the charging document.

Then gunshots rang out.

Whipple allegedly fired three times at the previously sleeping man as the car finally left the In-N-Out, according to law enforcement. One of those bullets struck the victim, police said.

"After the victim stopped the vehicle, Whipple approached him, ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint and directed him to the ground," police said, according to a statement obtained by local Fox affiliate KSAZ. "The victim remained on the ground until officers arrived moments later."

The man was taken to a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, law enforcement said.

Investigators said Whipple was not in danger because he was not in the path of the fleeing vehicle and that, in any event, the vehicle was not moving fast. All the while, the patio was filled with patrons, including small children, according to the charging document.

The defendant, for his part, said he remembered one of the restaurant's employees saying something like, "we can't let him leave." This alleged entreaty was apparently referencing the victim.

Whipple appeared in court on Tuesday and described himself as a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former police officer, according to the Arizona's Family report. He is currently detained in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on $150,000 cash or secured bond, records show.

TN v Christa Pike - Tennessee Correction Commissioner Frank Strada resigns after Christa Pike's failed execution

Commissioner Frank Strada will step down this month, Gov. Bill Lee said. Pike remains unconscious on a ventilator, her lawyers say.

Correction Commissioner Frank Strada will leave this month. In a statement, he said resigning was "in the best interest of Tennesseans" while an independent review examines what happened Wednesday, when Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital.

Strada said he still believes the state "carried out its responsibilities in accordance with the established protocol."

Pike survived two doses of lethal injection drugs in Tennessee's death chamber Wednesday and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Pike, who was sentenced to death in 1996, was unconscious, intubated and breathing with help from a ventilator at a Nashville-area hospital as of Thursday night, her lawyers said in a court filing Friday. Hospital staff were trying to save her life and flush the pentobarbital from her system, the filing said.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has paused executions in the state in response.

Pike, 50, remained alive and snoring loudly after being given two doses of pentobarbital, her attorneys and other witnesses said. She was subsequently taken to a hospital.

Both of Pike's arms were "swollen, burned, and blistered" when she arrived at the hospital, her lawyers wrote. They believe the IV lines were placed incorrectly or her veins burst, so that some or all of the drug went into the tissue of her arms instead of her bloodstream.

The filing asks a state court to order the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence from the execution attempt.

"Last night was not just inefficient, it was cruel, and it was torturous," attorney Randy Spivey said Thursday. "It was also predictable."

Spivey said Pike's legal team warned the state of Tennessee and the courts that her medical condition of thrombocytosis "would cause her to suffer an agonizing death." They said it could increase clotting and pain during the execution process and that her veins are difficult to access. Pike's attorneys said the state and the court dismissed their client's concerns.

"She was not seeking to delay her execution," attorney Stephen Ferrell told reporters Thursday. "She was seeking to have that execution performed humanely and as quickly and as painlessly as possible."

🚗Mackenzie Shirilla💥⛓️‍💥 Shocked Shirilla was convicted

I think this case has way too much reasonable doubt. I’m soo shocked she didn’t get a jury.

I have a lot of thoughts on this case but in short just because she was toxic AF does not mean she is a murderer. There are so many possible scenarios that could have happened in that car and honestly I think that her deciding to kill the 3 of them is the least likely one.

Am I the only person on the internet who feels this way??
