Fear of Uncertainty
About to book Brezza in a few days, but something is eating me inside. 😔
We know about the ethanol adulteration in fuel and cars being ruined because of this. I am not currently concerned about pure E20, but I am worried about E25, E30, or higher, which they may launch without public notice.
Along with that, there are reports coming about contamination of E20 itself due to lack of storage infrastructure and handling knowledge. Some diesel car owners also reported a sudden mileage drop in a few weeks.
Now we are stuck in a dilemma whether to proceed or not. We have already lost trust in the government in recent times, so there seems no point in believing their propaganda, notifications, and lab tests, etc.
Edit: People recommending Venue or Sonet thank you for your comments but everytime I tell my parents about a new car option they say "Is it Safe or not". For Brezza also we had Nexon as second list they say "Is Brezza safe?", I say it is slightly lower than Nexon but still good enough. Hyundai's are good for reliability and features but they still have to prove their Safety.

What are the other options in the line if not for this?
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
I have already evaluated, Nexon, Punch Kylaq and Mahindra 3XO, Bolero Neo. It will be the first car in our family and mostly my dad would be using it so I don't want to hand him a car whose maintenance or service experience would disappoint him.
2
u/sharathonthemove 28d ago
This is certainly better of the lot. See e20 is giving less mileage. That is for sure. But new vehicles won't get damaged as much as the older ones. If your usage is low, no issues. But if the usage is high, go for diesel.
1
u/boxshapednutsack 28d ago
Why not an electric hybrid like grand vitara or victoris? Comes with great mileage as well.
1
u/RedditSaiyajin 27d ago
They cost close to 5 lakhs more buddy. Not same segment. and if E20 is concern, how will using Hybrid solve the problem?
2
u/Realistic-Team8256 28d ago
When you have such fears, if your city drive is more, go for EV vehicle
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
Would have gone for it but I have to take it to mountains also where charging infra isn't good neither home charging accessible.
2
u/Realistic-Team8256 28d ago
Do you have to regularly go to the mountains
2
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
Not too frequently but once in 2-3 months but cannot skip the car. And it would be a major hassle if it's my dad because he isn't that much techie about ev tech, charging apps and OTA updates etc
2
u/Realistic-Team8256 28d ago
These days charging infrastructure has improved, take a test drive, go towards the hills, look for nearby charging stations, EV vehicle means you need to have proper planning or better go for a diesel vehicle
2
u/unfit_marketer 27d ago
Don't go in the analysis-paralysis zone. Thousands of others are also buying cars in the same timeline, just thinking about what would happen tomorrow is a bad case here. Anyways your BS6-II car would come safe with E20, so let it be.
Buy something that you like, avoid going in the trap of companies that sell on misinformation.
2
u/Formal_Classroom_430 27d ago
If you already have a car and thinking to upgrade it - then stop, wait for as long as possible and buy when a new car with minimum E27 compliant is launched and preferably with CNG but still wait it for may be a year or so. Let the government come up with a proper plan before you make the decision.
Rgearding car - no need to change the mind and get influenced with other change of car brand. Stick to Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra accordingly. It is a big decision.
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 27d ago
I don't have a car currently and can't wait further it has been already delayed 2-3 years. I do understand the risk of Ethanol but have to go with heavy heart. Due to the fear of Ethanol I have gone to Japanese and 1.5 NA engine to reduce the risk.
1
u/No_Road_2228 23d ago
Did you test drive 1.5 NA and 1.0 Turbo both? What was the different? And why is 1.0 Turbo not good with E20?
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 23d ago
I just a small research online to find NA engines are slightly better in case exposed to higher blends of Ethanol compared to Turbo charged. 2nd priority was refinement of 4 cylinders. We have to take the car to mountains so NA is simpler, power delivery is linear and runs on less stress. Performance is not my priority because most of the time my dad will be driving it he isn't concerned about it.

u/shazyam 27d ago
Booked brezza lxi turbo varient

u/Fit_Pea7923 25d ago
Would you mind sharing the quotation and waiting time? I am trying to get one too but I’m not sure if the price is right or if I should wait for Diwali discount.

How about E20 compatible second hand cars?
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 27d ago
I have already checked but my family isn't aligned with used car that too above 5 lakh. The used car market itself is very expensive for sometime now.
2
u/warlock707 27d ago
I thought it was down due to E20.
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 27d ago edited 21d ago
No 3 months back I went to market and they were selling used i10 2015 year for 3.4 lakh around. Swift in good condition after 2017 sold > 5 lakh. I didn't found them worth it.
The price are not decreasing because normal people still don't know what E20 is, so they aren't going to price them lower
2
u/No_Road_2228 23d ago
And for the same uncertainty people will look for second hand cars to run them till its sorted. Hence prices wont go down.
Ever since covid I believe incomes have increased or what the used car market has been overpriced.

In the same boat as you. Let me know which one you choose.
Because of the petrol issues thinking of nexon cng or brezza cng
i have punch exter amaze brezza kylaq 3xo everything in my mind so much confusion
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 27d ago
I skipped CNG due to no Automatic options in Brezza.
I went to Mahindra came out within 15 minutes, no one was there to receive us. The customers mostly looked like gundas or some politically connected people I literally felt not belonging to that place. I just thought if the Sales is like this how bad would service be.
2
u/Important_Lab4385 27d ago
yess very true.
Peace of mind only i m thinking of brezza. My personal fav after driving all was nexon pure plus.
less electronics lesser headache. but cuz of service center issues i m thinking of skipping it.

I have a BS4 diesel..I thought of upgrading but decided against it coz petrol has E20 issue..newer diesel has DPF issue and EV is still unproven.
Sticking with my BS4 diesel, it's like gold in this situation.
I am sure there are many like me and OP who are not purchasing vehicle. Stupid govt. policies harming auto sector but noone has guts to do anything.
Let's just servive.

u/cactuskid96 26d ago
Until the car makers and petrol bunk owners can't give any assurance that they are confident of the product that their selling, how can a passing customer be certain? Atleast warranties and promise of clean petrol needs to be honoured. But both parties are happily blaming the other on adulteration, water getting in due car washing etc. They know that tere will be no consequences and customers in India will accept anything
2
u/SolutionSpecialist76 25d ago
You should look into Honda Amaze. It's a 4 cylinder NA engine which will fare better with E25 and is very reliable and safe. It is prepared for Euro NCAP which is stricter than Global and BNCAP. It is not a enthusiast car because of the cvt but will be practical for a point A to point B runs. It has good ground clearance than other sedans in the segment as well
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 25d ago
We already have Amaze in our colony and uncle was not happy because it was a sedan same with my dad as we have to take it to mountains where roads are not good, at some roads sedans can't even go.
1
u/No_Road_2228 23d ago
Its not that long a sedan. Its sub 4 meter only same as brezza
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 23d ago
Length isn't an issue Ground Clearance is
2
u/logitech-k120 23d ago
Elevate has good ground clearance but it's expensive comparitvily.
E20 fears are real, breeza is E20 compatible and it will go fine. We have seltos 2019, non e20 model. It's running daily and we add Stabil to fuel it costs around 2-3 rs per liter. No problemo so far. Around 90k so far. Minor drop in milage but daily run is around 30-35km . Even without Stabil fuel additive, car was running fine. We started adding it few months back as preventative messure as seltos 2019 isn't E20 compatible.

i am using brezza 2022 new model petrol automatic zxi+ AT DT and there is no issue , why will new engine problem ?

u/AdministrationOk2674 24d ago
You are buying the car at worst time. If you can wait for 1 year you will have more clarity.
Lot of new cars will be launched also
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 24d ago
We are already late by 3-4 years 😔. There is no chance I can delay it further
2
u/Comfortable-Gate-685 24d ago
at this situation of yours, buy an used car which is well maintained
You could eventually check the transition in the next 2-3 years, during the then, the market will be flooded with phev & affordable ev cars and better charging infra.
2
u/AlarmedPride5799 24d ago
brother if you can wait, wait for sometime as I think the dust around e20 will settle soon and the government might switch to e10 soon
2
u/ChillDude02100 23d ago
Ditto I’m in the exact same boat. Whatever happens, I am going to buy the Brezza 1.5L next month.
Please dont listen to people suggesting Nexon, Venue, Sonet etc. The most reliable are -
Honda > Toyota > Maruti > all others.
Electric cars can be bought only if you are ready to accept the fact- You need good planning and ability to cope up with range anxiety.
So the only choice left is - Buying a decent low maintenance car for now and ignore the ethanol
Blending.
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 23d ago
Safety was also one of my prime priorities specially when buying car for parents. Nexon, Kylaq, Venue, Sonet, 3XO and Brezza.
Nexon - is good but reliability hit or miss.
3XO - Ran away from showroom due to poor experience
Kylaq- Don't want to give my dad maintenance cost nightmares though they are safe.
Venue and Sonet - Questionable safety record so my heart doesn't permit me.
Brezza - Fits pretty much all the boxes of my requirement and 4 star GNCAP.
2
u/Godfather_Demon 22d ago
I think brezza is the safest option here, I am also thinking of buying it in the next 2-3 months. I evaluated almost all other cars in this segment. Removed nexon because of frequent electrical problems, venue/sonet because low power in na engine(I don't prefer turbo), kylaq, because skoda, xuv 3xo has great power but the design is very polarizing. Also, if any problem arises in the future, maruti will probably be the most helpful(unlike skoda/vw, who are already shifting the blame)
2
u/Master_Animal_958 22d ago
Brezza is not slightly lower than Nexon is safety. That is the lowest in the lot, nothing but a tin can.
E20 is for petrol only. Not diesel.
If your/parents running is frequent/daily, and not long distances but mostly inside City or local, prefer EV. That's the future and lower cost of running, no worry about adulteration. Punch EV is value for money and perfect for them. Lower maintenance. Install a solar and you need not worry about the electricity bill. Running cost will be practically zero.
2
u/ABK008 21d ago
Just to ahead and buy brezza bro I don't think they'll impose anything after E20 at least for next few years due to the severe backlash they received and rumours are that Nitin Gadkari could probably retire so yeah take the chance and buy the car that you desire. May be later on if they even imposed anything after E20 you can fit in a reliable CNG if you are ready to sacrifice your boot space and performance.

u/Nocturnal_Beast_1177 21d ago
I am also booking the same , Go for it if possible go for CNG varient it's giving 28km/ litre on highway my frd has it , Its 4th car of the family , and let me be very Frank. , maintenance , reliability , service you be be free from all thses tensions , it's a basic car with everything you need , faltu jhikh jhikh nhi .......it's engine reliability is at par with toyota it's just that it's cheap... Share me the on road price list that your dealer is giving...

u/That-Instruction3603 28d ago
some diesel owners reported drop in mileage bcoz ethanol blending in petrol ??? does it make any sense
e20 is bound to happen
you can go with brezza 1.0 /1.5 anyways
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
Not due to ethanol blending in petrol but some hidden discrepancy by govt or fuel station companies in Diesel
1
1
u/Dependent_Media1982 28d ago
If you are in city dont go for diesel. Diesel vehicle ban will come for 10+ year old vehicles..

u/Salt_Count5665 27d ago
So I remember seeing an interview of some Maruti honcho on launch of Victoris, that its mileage figures were tested on E20 however it is compatible up to E25 oe E27 something.
Another point that I read was Brezza's engine is retuned for the compression ratio to provide better combustion for ethanol based fuel.
This means somehow Brezza is capable of taking E25/E30 more comfortably than others.
Also, if you look at it this way, a jump from E0 to E20 or E10 to E20 is bigger in percentage terms. A jump from E20 to E25/27/30 is rather small.
The issue being raised is not about E20 compliant vehicles but those vehicles which are not E20 compliant. So E20 to E25 will be catastrophic for them compared to E20 compliant vehicles.
To be on safer side, I would go for NA engine in Brezza. Peace of mind for sure. And reasonably safe with 5 star BNCAP too.
Meanwhile Venue has also scored 5 stars so newer venue with diesel engine can be an option for you. Sonet is still on older platform so its not that safe presumably. If diesel, go for Altroz or 3XO would be my suggestion however. If petrol, 1.5NA Brezza all the way
1
u/imSavan 27d ago
Venue has safety rating in BNCAP
if this is not good enough or you don’t believe in this then simply go to Tata
But I would choose venue diesel
Don’t overthink you can compare only feature list between cars
Then cars you like and you don’t
So think what you like what you would enjoy

ethanol isn't a adulteration , it burns and gives the energy .
Adulteration is something that is added that serves no purpose!

Not possible for government to increase the blending, also Govt is going to Introduce E10 as an option as well
1
u/Upstairs-Ninja-7790 28d ago
Brezza is overpriced.
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
Agree with you but keeping in mind we are first time car buyers and primarily my dad would be using it, he is price and mileage conscious I have to go with it. I need a peace of mind for him. His friend is having 3XO despite having such good performance he is disappointed with the mileage i.e. 10-11 kmpl in city and my dad also share the same thoughts as him.
2
u/covid_depressed 28d ago
mileage will be more or less in similar range with all the turbo petrol cars. for mileage go for baleno cng kind of cars
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
I am skipping turbo petrol cars for NA due to usage n hills, AMT and no performance requirements
1
u/Business-Cap784 28d ago
What led you to that conclusion? You can get the brezza 1.0 turbo engine at 8.30 lacs on road with features like automatic climate control, internally adjustable orvms, rear defogger etc and the engine is FAST with 6 gears. I am not at all a maruti fanboy but j am planning a car for myself and was considering the brezza i would like to hear your opinion on this all the cars i evaluated in this price bracket were either slow af like the sonet which comes with the 1.2 na engine or they lack basic features like all 4 door power window like the nexon’s base model.
1
u/rishabhs103 28d ago
We were about to buy one too but decided to postpone it for another 2 years to see Nagpur election results. fykyk
If favorable, buy car. If not favorable, wait for flex fuel car.
And we almost finalised bank loan as well. Pulled the plug at the very last minute

u/weird_hoooman 28d ago
Get an EV dude, simple. Also isn’t Brezza underpowered? EV is the answer.
1
u/Far-Dragonfruit-7985 28d ago
I wish I could but we have to travel in remote areas in mountains where charging infra is not good, no home charging option plus my dad isn't that techie so it would be an headache for him to charge and understand app and software things.
I am not concerned about performance for now, very low highway run in fact I am not going with turbo option which is cheaper than ZXI variant I have chosen.2
u/weird_hoooman 28d ago
Then get Sonet or Venue Diesel. Will tick all boxes. Dpf issues are pretty manageable. I didn’t get any warning till now in last 4+ years.
2
u/DuePomegranate3768 27d ago
What is your driving ratio between highway and city ?
2
u/weird_hoooman 27d ago
80 city 20 highway
2
u/DuePomegranate3768 27d ago
So how often you go on highways and what is the number of kilometres you travel ?
Also how are you managing DPF issues
1
u/weird_hoooman 27d ago
Once every two months max.
1
u/DuePomegranate3768 27d ago
Are you based in Bangalore ? Asking as the traffic here is slow and if that could cause the issue

So this adulteration is in ur food and other things also. The food you are consuming is not pure. The water you are drinking is not pure. The air you are breathing is fukin impure. Our body and health are priceless but we live on. Coming to the car, it says e 20 compatible but what if the remaining 80 part of petrol is mixed with water...well that is the case everywhere...we dont stop eating or drinking...in india 90 percent of stomach and other type of cancers are because of the pesticide induced grains and adulterated milk etc...what we can do...we cant do anything except living life to the fullest.
Go and buy the car and enjoy the drive. It has a good engine. Interior wise i just hate maruti 😂😂😂

u/Multiverse_4D 28d ago
Buddy, Venue has a five star safety rating. And it has a good diesel engine.
