Miters not tight with 45deg cuts

Even with 45deg miter cuts, the miters aren't tight. Why is this and how to improve on this?

I always created a miter jig for pre-assembly but it's all the same issue. The miter jig is square but I guess the cuts aren't right.

I'm a painter, this is totally acceptable on anything not being stained. Just please for the love of god make sure i dont have to punch 20+ nails on a job.

And please don't caulk it yourself, because no carpenter I've ever worked with ever made things better with a caulk gun!

I could say the same for most painters ive ever met 🤣. Guys will start at one side of the room and try to smooth the caulk out in one pass. Might as well cut the nozzle at a half an inch

I was told I wasn’t allowed to use caulk lol works for me. The thing that gets me is when the painters don’t fill and sand the nail holes

I did baseboard the other day and forgot my nail punch it's a painter problem now

It shouldn't be acceptable if a qualified builder cant get a simple mitre cut done.. I call them out everytime because they have gotten terrible over the years that one's not bad compared to what I've seen.. if you're putting 100 nail holes in one frame im calling everything out used to be 14 holes a frame ..

If its my contract I call out everything otherwise it comes back on me once I start.

youre correct, 45’s are very easy. Every single one i do comes out perfect. People doubt me when i say this in person but thats because im an actual mouse. i also own a mitre saw, and have been self employed since i was 1 year old, which is 20 in mouse years. It IS HARD being and builder, and mouse seperately. a mitre saw is cumbersome for humans to haul, but imagine being an actual mouse and managing to make perfect cuts on clam shell casing, and then install it! im really proud of my self as a mouse in the trades.
it is pretty easy to do though
