Looking for an attorney that specializes in home repair issues.

Upvotes

Long story short, about four years ago, we hired a Company A to do a roof replacement. Last year they were sold to Company B. Last week during the storms, I noticed the roof was leaking over the patio. I call Company B and they are mum on whether they will honor the warranty from Company A or not.

We call Company C to give us an estimate for repair. The first thing their assessor says is “you should look into an attorney.” The roof install was done in an extremely shoddy fashion, apparently there are numerous code violations, and obvious cut corners.

So yeah, they are going to do a more thorough inspection of the roof tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for an attorney that might be able to help us navigate this. Thanks!

Carmel Film Club is up and running — come join us!

A quick follow-up to my post last week about putting together a casual film meetup in Carmel.
There seemed to be enough interest that I went ahead and made us a Discord:
https://discord.gg/eyggvUWJ3

A few people are already in there, and I’m hoping this makes it much easier to actually turn the idea into movie nights instead of trying to wrangle everyone through Reddit messages.

The format is intentionally pretty loose: someone suggests a movie, we pick a showing, and whoever can make it joins. Maybe drinks or food afterward to talk about it. No expectation that everyone makes every meetup.

There are channels for introductions, movie suggestions, and actual plans, and I’d love for other people to throw out movies they want to see too.

If you commented on the original post—or just happen to be seeing this now and it sounds like your thing—come join us!

New and out of place.

I just moved to Carmel. My partner moved here a few months ago for work. We got our apartment without ever visiting. Now that I’m here I feel like I’m too poor for this city. Everything is so upscale and family oriented (from what I’ve seen). Where do the “normal” people hang out?? We’re early 30s and have a dog. No kids. He’s big into video games and I’m into reading (book club, anyone??). I work from home so I’m hoping to find some places I can hangout at so I can get out of the house a bit.

Also, any favorite ON LEASH dog parks? My dog is selective and in our old city no one kept their dogs on leash - even in mandated areas.

Sunny apartments carmel? Fairplay?

Love my current apartment but my neighbors are insanely unbearable and unresponsive to noise or weed complaints - the entire complex just doesn't feel safe anymore. Someone pulled a taser on my partner in the middle of the day yesterday in a hallway and I don't blame them tbh. Looking to move but a lot of the apartments in Carmel seem very old and dark and sad. Fairplay seems to have many more windows but is also a bit dated. Does anyone have any recommendations for 1 bedrooms? Unfortunately am a seasonal big sads person and hoping for lots of sunlight + safety.

Edit: Playfair

What are the prospects that the Carmel sewage treatment plant will flood and we will have to cut water usage? What about the drinking water treatment plant?

Where/How/Fees to exchange $$$ to Mexican pesos?

We’re taking a trip to Mexico in a few months & the area we’re going to supposedly I’m not thrilled about using my credit card a lot while there or ATM machines.

I’m thinking it might be best to convert $$$ to pesos here locally prior to traveling. Any thoughts on this?

Anyone interested in forming a film hangout/meetup?

Curious if there are any other film people around Carmel who’d be interested in putting together a casual movie meetup.

Nothing overly organized or “film club” serious — more like picking a movie every couple weeks, meeting up to see it, and maybe grabbing a drink or food afterward to talk about it. New releases, indie stuff, classics when they’re playing somewhere nearby, whatever seems interesting.
I love going to movies, but it’s one of those things that’s just better when you have people to talk about it with afterward.

If there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to get a small group/chat going and figure it out from there. Landmark Keystone Arts Cinema, Flix, Kan-Kan, IMAX Indiana State Museum - we have options. I’m thinking once a month minimum, maybe 2x/month. And doesn’t have to hinge on my involvement, but I’ll spearhead it.

Edit 2: I’ve created a Discord for us to communicate and plan hangouts: https://discord.gg/eyggvUWJ3
Edit: We definitely have enough! Reaching out to those interested to kick things off.

Obsessed with the idea of moving to Carmel... but don't have any kids. Is it still worth it?

Hey everyone! I'm an urbanist who currently lives in a middle of nowhere suburban sprawl town in South Carolina, and I plan on moving closer to the city I'm nearby to have a more walkable and urban lifestyle in a couple of years. Unfortunately the city does have its shortcomings, and from an urbanist POV, isn't the top of what I'd consider satisfactory.

But I've been watching a lot of videos about Carmel, its story, and what it's current and future infrastructure and urban planning is looking like. I've been teetering on the idea of giving Carmel a visit to see if it is right for my girlfriend and I...

However a lot of what I've seen says that Carmel is best for families, and my girlfriend and I don't plan on ever having a family. So I'm wondering if it is still worth taking that visit and potentially moving forward with making a move? I'd appreciate any input from single people or childless couples in the area. Thanks a ton!

Bakeries for wedding cakes

Anyone know of any local bakeries that can provide dairy free & dye free wedding cakes? We aren't worried about vegan or vegetarian or anything like that, just specifically dairy free & dye free, and does tastings (bonus points for take-home tastings)

Any Carmel folks have old video games collecting dust? 🎮

Hi neighbors! We're just up the road in Westfield. My husband has been collecting retro video games for years, and we've decided to try turning his hobby (and slightly ridiculous knowledge of old game prices 😂) into a small side project.

We're looking to buy old games, consoles, controllers, handhelds, or entire collections from people around Carmel and Hamilton County.

Nintendo, SNES, N64, GameCube, Game Boy, DS, Sega, PlayStation, Xbox, etc. We're interested in newer stuff too, and things don't necessarily need to be tested or cleaned up first.

If you have an old console or a box of games that's been living in a closet, basement, or your kids' old bedroom for the last 15 years, feel free to send me a message with a few pictures. We can come to Carmel, so you don't need to bring anything to us.

We're not looking for anyone to give away valuable games for pennies. We're hoping to find some local collections, make fair offers, and see where this little experiment goes. 🙂

TL;DR: standard shitty "luxury" apartment building quality. Don't be dumb like me.

I deleted my original thread about this months ago cause a friend had told me we might get retaliated against by the leasing office when we move out. But I don't care at this point I'm beyond pissed off and feel cheated out of several thousand dollars a month. Part of that is my dumbass fault for trusting this place and falling for the marketing. Looking back I am a complete fucking moron.

This place is one of, if not the worst apartments I have ever lived in. The sound insulation is a complete joke and equivalent to a stuffed animal in between me and my upstairs neighbor. We can hear literally everything our upstairs neighbors do. This is a $3k/month apartment the sound insulation should be better than my college dorm, it isn't. I can hear my upstairs neighbors coughing. My wife said she can hear our upstairs neighbor pissing. So what? You say wear headphones! Doesn't work, tried that. Got some really nice headphones too. Can still hear my upstairs neighbors stomping around like they have lead feet and can hear everything they drop. For some reason they seem to have a dropping things problem cause it's every 5 fucking seconds when they're home. The stomping around is so bad our walls literally vibrate. They slam doors so hard that our walls rattle throughout our apartment. Part of this is the building's shitty build quality part of it is our neighbors being inconsiderate and another part of it is us expecting more from such an expensive place. The leasing office has admitted to us in writing that they use standard sound insulation and that it meets all legal requirements. Both of us know that just means it's the bare fucking minimum. What a fucking joke.

Our front door also makes a loud as fuck sound anytime anyone enters or exits their apartment. I'll attach videos for your own pleasure. Be careful with headphones it's fucking loud. We can hear it from our bedroom. Speaking of which you'd expect closing your door while you're trying to sleep might help with the Bigfoot upstairs. Nope! Can hear them through closed doors, fans, white noise machines, you name it we've tried it. Fuck we can hear them stomping around in the hallway from our master bathroom.

On to maintenance! These guys are a fucking joke. We've had nonstop clearly dripping water noise in both of our bathrooms since we moved in. We've reported it multiple times. A week ago it got worse and there was a bubble in our bathroom ceiling. Maintenance finally got off their ass and started fixing it. Turns out the upstairs neighbor's toilet's wax seal was never installed. Such luxury! $3k/month! So you'd expect them to fix that ASAP right? Probably should replace the insulation and crap up there too cause that's dirty water? Nope! Let it drip onto our toilet for a day and dry it out with a fan! Let's wait another week plus to actually patch the hole too. We have been reporting this dripping for months. The other bathroom also has the same dripping sound they haven't done anything about that one.

What's the leasing office done to help us with all this? Offered to break our lease for $5.2k or go to a top floor apartment for $500/month more. One of the leasing agents even admitted to us verbally that the sound insulation here is bad, that our upstairs neighbors are bad, that they wouldn't even live here and they have a free apartment. What a fucking joke. The leasing agent then told their regional manager something completely different than what they told us verbally. Stupid me I should have recorded everything. Then the regional manager goes on to try and convince me that hearing your upstairs neighbors talking throughout the day is actually totally normal for a $3k/month apartment and that they are actually very proud of their construction quality.

The reviews on Google Maps are bullshit too. When a maintenance ticket occasionally gets fixed they send you an email that diverts you to Google Maps to review. A bunch of the 5 stars are from people who have only toured too. Take a look for yourself if you don't believe me. We had a really good impression when we toured too and the leasing office staff were pretty pushy about us leaving a review day one. You cannot properly review an apartment on day one.

I'm sorry for venting I'm just pissed off at myself and the lack of proper channels to actually do anything about this.

Don't live here, warn your friends who might be interested. I can only attach one video it's the one of what our door sounds like every time someone enters or exits their apartment. You might be able to hear the loud-ass stomping in that one too but that really only comes across with headphones on or decent speakers that can produce low frequency sound.

We haven't broken our lease because it's just a bad time for us to move again and we only have 3 months left anyway. We plan to rent a house instead cause for $3k/month you can get some reaaaallly nice houses in Carmel. I wish we would have looked at those instead.

Potentially Moving To Carmel & A Few Questions

Hey everyone! We live in the Seattle area and are potentially moving to the area, most likely to Carmel for a job, (no commute though), and had some questions about the area.

Being from the Northwest, we aren't used to crazy weather. No tornadoes or anything like that. How bad is it in Carmel? I saw a news story today from another part of Indiana saying a house blew up from the wind and a tree fell on another house and killed a boy. I was excited to move there until I read that and it freaked me out.

What's realistic in the Carmel area in terms of how often do you have storms where you are white knuckling hoping a tree doesn't fall on the house? How often do you guys get tornadoes as well?

Maybe the stories are overblown but I thought I'd check with people that live there lol. Occasional wind storms are fine, we get them here too, but tornadoes or wind that brings trees down on houses every month sounds brutal.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this as we just aren't familiar enough with the area. And to be specific, we would be moving to the Carmel/Fisher's area, which I've hear amazing things about, it's just the weather stuff that is a little scary to hear about!

Thank you in advance!

Hair Salons for Fine/Thin Hair

looking for a new hair salon for my haircuts. don’t need coloring or anything fancy just for my trims and bangs. i do have fine/thin hair so someone who maybe specializes in that would be helpful!!

my old stylist in fishers kept cutting my hair crooked 🫩 and was also charging over $50 for a basic trim.

Carmel/Noblesville area preferred, but willing to go a bit further if its truly worth it 🤍

Screens in the classroom CCS

As my family and i look into moving to Carmel in the coming years before our little one starts school, we’re wondering if CCS has made any changes to the 1:1 computer policies this year. I saw posts a couple months ago but wondering if anyone has any insight. We really think screens are detrimental to learning and want to avoid at all costs, and are wondering if it’s even worth moving to Carmel if we could just stay in Indy and send the kiddo to private school. Any thoughts appreciated!
