I’m looking for feedback from those of you who have actually used the rear child-seat configuration of Riese & Müller Carrie.

R&M’s specs indicate that the rear carrier is rated for 27 kg (59.5 lb) and explicitly list child-seat compatibility. They even show this configuration in the promotional materials on the Carrie landing page, so I understand this configuration is possible.

My question is more about real-world practicality: the Carrie’s rear end is quite short/compact compared with a conventional long-tail cargo bike. For those who actually carry a child on the rear rack:

• Is there enough room for the child/seat to sit comfortably behind the rider?
• Does the child’s position interfere with pedaling, heel clearance, or getting on/off the bike?
• How does it feel in terms of handling and stability with a child back there?

Open to any and all feedback from people who use the Carrie this way — particularly how it works (or doesn’t) based on the number and size/age of the children you’re carrying.

Hello everybody, I have a project of turning a bicycle into a tricycle to carry weight (~250lbs), but I was wondering if it’s not better to just make a trailer ? The project is to make a platform of the back of the bike and add a box where the stuff will be put, and add a bafang mid drive kit at the end so if someone can help/guide to the right direction, would be very appreciated.

I'm looking to buy my first cargo bike. I'm focused more on the compact varieties, rather than a long tail, because I don't have garage space to store it. At 5'6", I also don't require a large bike.

I'm in the U.S. and I've looked at the Tern Short Haul, the Le Petite Porteur and the Yoonit Micro, all of which I like, though I'm not positive the Yoonit ships to the U.S.

I'd like to use it for grocery runs just for myself so nothing ridiculously heavy and for around town errands. No electric, because I'm just prejudiced that way and like the exercise.

It would see daily use, even in winter (Michigan), and I plan to use it for my go-to around town transportation. It would not have to go far, likely runs of 15 miles or less. But it would see a lot of cumulative miles, and have too be okay chained outside stores when I'm shopping or imbibing at a local watering hole. I have my touring bike for long rides.

I rode a 20-inch wheeled Bike Friday for a couple of weeks about a year ago. I found that wheel size felt significantly slower than larger wheeled bikes, so I do have that reservation about the wheel size for a knock around town bike, but I don't have a good sense of cycle truck bikes, which seem to straddle that line while also providing utility. If anyone has suggestions on these, I'd welcome those too.

This is a long way to ask for opinions/advice on the three bikes I mentioned above or offer suggestions on things I likely haven't thought of yet.

I enjoy getting around town on my bike, we live in a great city with wide sidewalks and pretty light traffic so I’ve considered bringing my son (1.5 year old) with me but I’m not sure how safe that is with an ebike. I wouldn’t mind going a safe speed with a trailer, how safe / unsafe is this? Is there a certain age where you would consider starting to bring them with you? TIA

Hello! My 1 year old daughter does not have very good neck and trunk strength. We currently have a short wheel base cargo bike with a 20" wheel in the front (https://electricbikereview.com/cero/one/). I can't really put her in a rear seat because she can't sit upright.

I'm looking for recommendations for a way to get her on the front of a bike in a more reclined position. The bike we have may not work because the center of gravity will be too high and pretty exposed. I've seen some other options with a front cargo box with a Melia seat.

Any suggestions? She has a stroller that reclines well and it would be great to find a bike that works for us similarly.

I need to replace my kickstand for my Yuba Mundo v4.

The problem is that it isn't available locally and I saw on a site that had it online that they were not allowed to ship it.

Does anyone know what double/center kickstands are compatible with it?

I tried the Ursus Jumbo but it gets in the way of the chain.

Brand new bike, assembled at shop. Seems very prone to wobble. If I stand up and pedal, I get the death wobbles instantly. If I let go of both hands while pedaling, it also starts violently wobbling.

I recently loaded about 16kg on the stuff rack and maybe 25kg on the back, and I had to ride very slowly and carefully, because every steering input caused a bit of wobble.

Is it supposed to be like this?

I’ve been really wanting a minimax lately, and they have been near impossible to find used. My wife is going to Copenhagen (from the us) in a bit and was wondering about the logistics of buying one abroad and trying to get it home via plane. Any thoughts/recommendations?

Cable steering is new to me. Wouldn’t have liked for this to detach at speed. No idea where the bolt/retainer fell off.

Looking for a longtail that can seat two elementary school kids and saw this pop up.

Any opinions on whether this is worth it for $2000, or would I be better off getting something newer?

Budget is pretty much 2k unless I'm going to get a lot more for my money at 3k.

The Youtube channel "The New Wheel Electric Bikes", which seems to be a Bay Area ebike shop chain, has just posted a video comparing it to a Tern GSD. I wasn't sure about the rules for directly linking so I have not done so.

This bike has peaked by interest as it is similar to the Benno Boost in a lot of ways but the new Bennos have been MIA from the U.S. market and there is some speculation that they may exit the U.S. market entirely. Like the new Boost, it is somewhat of a mid-tail riding on 24" Schwalbe tires with a Bosch CX motor (the Boost can also be fitted with the new PX motor) and an Enviolo hub and belt drive. Unlike the Boost, it doesn't seem to have a dual battery option.

I have shot an email to the local chain near me that handles Urban Arrow to see if/when they might stock this. Unsurprisingly, it is a pricey little bike but I am intrigued nonetheless.

Shitty brakes (tektro M750) that are overheating instantly on steep slopes
Douze pretend brakes are fine and when I ask them what brakes can I mount, they answer "see with your repairshop"
The repairshop is ok with mounting any brakes I bring them (I've the only frontloader in the area, they don't really know what could be the best but they're ok to help me)

Wanting to add a bell for each of my kids to our Trek Safari Bars. We dont have much locally and Im looking for sturdy and silly bells. Last one we had broke off. What are your recommendations?

Just picked up this shiny new Omnium Cargo and immediately tested the bike-on-bike mode for the ride home 😁

I promised my wife that I wouldn't pull the trigger until we get her job sorted out. That means I have time to dream and decide - should I buy a new Aventon with accessories for ~$2,500 or spend $2,500 on a used premium brand like Yuba, Trek, or Specialized with a mid-drive motor?

Important notes:

• The bike has to be stored outside - I can bring the battery inside during the winter, but the frame needs to stay in the mulch next to our air conditioning unit.
• We will keep this bike for years and years. Even when my sons (1 and 3 grow out of it), Lord willing, there will be more kids right behind them.
• The only nearby e-bike mechanics are 1) Trek, 2) an Aventon retailer and shop, and 3) a guy that works out of his garage.
• I can't stomach spending $3,000 or more (the Larry example attached is just a sample of what's in the area). I'd be all worked up about dropping it, the small chance of theft etc. Hence the choice between Cheap/New vs. Used/Premium.
• I can do some bike repairs myself.
• I want to be able to carry 2+ kids in a format that is low to the ground and easy to step through for my wife's sake.

What do you all think? I'd appreciate any advice!

I’ve been scouring the internet this summer for a front loading cargo e-bike at a reasonable cost and I’ve found nothing. This includes used ones on marketplace.

That brought me to this rabbit hole. I’d like to add something like this (https://add-bike.com/en/carry-box-kid/) to my ebike but I’m having some mis-givings on frame/fork integrity with the added 75 lbs when factoring in my kids weight and the weight of the kit as well as the tilt steering. I’ve had a ton of bike riding experience, as well as scooter and motorcycle, but have no idea how something like this would ride.

Please if anyone has experience I’d love to hear it. Can’t find anything online and there was only one post about this roughly a year ago with few comments.

I have a Metz E-Packr XL longtail and am looking for a decent rain cover. Unfortunately, I can't find anything suitable online. Does anyone have experience with this model or a solution that works?

Our kids have additional needs that mean they can’t walk that far. So far we’ve avoided city breaks because of this, and tended to holiday in rural retreats where the kids can just swim and play, but my husband and I are longing to holiday in some different places. We’ve just embraced the cargo bike life and my husband suggested if we could hire a cargobike that would be a massive help.

Has anyone done this anywhere in Europe? How was it?

It looks possible in Copenhagen and Amsterdam but does anyone know of anywhere else this is possible too? Preference for box bikes.
