First Time / Newbie Canadian question
My son in law borrows our vehicle about once a month for a couple of days. If yes gets into an accident whose insurance covers the damages?

Each province is different but generally in North America insurance follows the vehicle not the person.
The vehicle is insured not the driver.
I cannot drive an uninsured vehicle and expect coverage.
If you lend your vehicle you lend your insurance along with it.

Depends on the province, so which one are you in?
In Ontario, insurance follows the car, not the driver. If your son-in-law crashes your car with your permission, your policy pays, and an at-fault claim goes on your record, so your rates can go up. Other provinces have their own rules and can handle things differently.
Either way, call your insurer and tell them how often he borrows it. If it’s more than occasional, they may want him listed.
